Forget about blowing it up,. It will be very tough to draft a player as good as Melo. Teams that build through the draft rarely win championships. You have to trade for star players. Melo is the only play worth anything on the Knicks. He is not Lebron but he can score with the best of them. Bring him help! 62 points with 8 minutes left in the 4th. He could have easily hit 70.
Blow it up and what then? Draft another injury prone player like Gallo? None of the armchair GMs on this forum hitting the panic button have a plan.
Agree. Also, what a performance.
If Kemba Walker played we would have had a much harder time winning because he makes his teammates better., Melo played focused, he only does that normally in the playoffs.

If Kemba Walker played and the game was close, Melo would have played the entire game and might have put up 75 last night.

Kemba would of had our defense(PG's) scrambling switching and that would have taken some of the energy out of the team. You forgot how bad our pg defense really is in one night. SMH
It depends entirely on the price.
The problem is, can we honestly build a good team around him in the next 3 years? With his huge salary taking up the cap too? I honestly don't think we can, which is why we need to trade him- not because I think he's bad, just because it doesn't make sense if we can't get the right supporting players around him.

I think we should keep him but basing that off of last nights game would be jumping the gun kind of. He just came off a few games where his shooting percentage was dreadful.
He has legitimately improved other aspects of his game this year. Still has lapses on D but he is rebounding and has had multiple high assist games. The losing this hear has more to do with the way the team is built.
I'd build around Melo if he agrees to a contract where he is paid $17-23mil for the 5yr duration of his contract.
If he takes less especially during the first 2-3yrs of his deal it will allow us to build an NBA roster around him and allow the roster to grow togethhttp://www.fernandessteakhouse.comer
Get a PG via 2015 draft, trade or FA
Sign a secondary scorer
Continue to develop Shumpert, Hardaway, Tyler and Murray
Add better 2way, higher IQ players, efficient 3pt shooters
Melo at $25-30mil pretty much ensures that we will have more of the same
Injury riddled vets
Malcontents
Castoffs
NBDL talent
I think this is a legitimate plan. Question is what is Dolan and Mills plan? Is it true Knicks are finally going with a more analytical approach we've all been begging for, retaining picks and young talent?
I will draw the line there. If we get more of the same for the next decade I'm out
This is a better and more realistic plan than trading him and blowing it up completely than sit a few years on young assets and cap space just to sign rondo or love. But only with a specific plan In place
it was a good performance nothing more... his team is 11 games under .500 it is a reminder not to make this more than it is.. again I figured I would see these types of threads, would appear... but the next game I am sure will wake you guys up again.. a personal achievment for carmelo.. nothing more...

we do have a plan.. we are a billion games under .500 with this clown.. blow it up..... accumulate assets... that is a better plan... and why must we draft injury prone players.. again, the gallo argument is ridiculous as him being injury prone still has denver in better shape than us... honestly I rather draft another injury prone player, and be in the position denver is than NY.... how can you honestly sit here looking at the situation NY is in and gloat... I mean that is beyond bizzard... LOL

U don't think he worked on other parts of his game this year and the roster just lacks leadership and IQ of guys like Kidd?
Talent wise it's very underwhelming as it was last year. I'm curious to see Melo with real NBA players
To me this is a new Melo. Maybe he is just trying to get traded but this is not Indiana series Melo
Also if we are going through with my plan I want to see JVG OR Thibs on the sidelines. We will never advance in the playoffs with Mic Wudsen

nah, if he worled on other parts of his game and we are this bad, then he needs to go..
last night was an odd night around the league.. parsons hit 10 straight threes.. 10!! that is nuts..
Teletovic had 24 in the first half for the nets, a bench guy...
marcus thorton I think dropped 42 on the pacers defense
Drummond had a 21/20 game
Tobias harris from orlando had a 28/20 game
again, no need to go overboard.. 62 points and 0 assist don't impress me.. he was very hot.. it happens in this league.. 10 straight 3's is just as impressive if you ask me...
big picture guns.... we are 11 games under .500 62 points doesn't change that at all.. nice game... he needs to go...
I'm curious to see Melo with real NBA players
nah, that is an old excuse. I am now curious to see our players with a real leader and star..
He could've forced every shot last night but he didn't. He moved the ball plenty. I saw numerous hockey assists and the fact remains that no one on this team can hit an open shot consistently. Felton and Shumpert were bricking shots left and right last night

This is not a legitimate plan bro, this is a vague wish list. If we don't have Melo, what decent PG is going to want to come here to play with Shump, TH Jr, Tyler and Murray? Where are you getting this second scorer from? And adding better 2way, higher IQ players, efficient 3pt shooters is just vague.
If you plan is to sign-and-trade Melo then I can understand. After last nights game his value is going to be high again.
With cap space and we still have our 2015 lottery pick
And the picks we get back for tyson
You know the Suns got Bledsoe for a 2nd round pick?

First, you are expecting NY management to be able to take risks and pull off good trades which I have not seen happen since we traded for Spree. Second, Bledsoe wasn't a sign and trade so he could get a huge offer and bolt. Third, if our trades don't pan out you will complain about giving up what we did. We essentially gave up draft picks (and a bunch of injured nobodies) for Melo and you are complaining about him even though he is out best player. Also, didn't the the suns give up Jared Dudley in that 3-team deal? Jared Dudley is a better player than Shumpert.
You just want to let Melo walk if he is not willing to take less. At least come up with a realistic sign-n-trade scenario.
Also what plan isn't vague as we don't know what Dolan and mills are thinking?
gunsnewing wrote:Also what plan isn't vague as we don't know what Dolan and mills are thinking?
I originally said the blow it up people don't have a real plan after letting Melo walk. You posted a bunch of vague things which I thought was your plan. Your plan to refurnish the Knicks after letting Melo walk and not pay him the max. At least have a plan if you are going to say let him walk.
