The Knicks do it to improve our PG play (however slight the improvement) and our ability to space the floor. I think we'd also be able to trade Larry Sanders and Luke Ridnour to the Kings for Derrick Williams and Jimmer Fredette, which should really open up the lanes. Plus making that deal effectively means we'd only have Melo and Hardaway under contract for 2015.
The ultimate goal, for me, would be to figure out a way of finagling Aaron Afflalo, Marvin Williams, Jameer Nelson and Glen Davis here before 2015 because I think that those 3 can put us on even footing with Indiana. Maybe Mayo, Knight amd filler can get that done.
The Bucks do the trade to free themselves of their long-termed deals that can be considered bad contracts (Sanders and Ilyasova). They become worse from the deal but in their situation, worse is better and at least they'd be entertaining with guys like Lin, JR and Andrea (a poor man's Ilyasova), while opening up time for the key pieces in their youth movement (John Henson and Giannas (insert the alphabet here)).
The Rockets do the deal because it saves them $10 million next season, while giving them comparable players to what they're losing. As bad as Kendrick Perkins is, I think he'd be serviceable as a backup. These guys can fill the competitive gap until those two first round picks from OKC mature into something.
The Thunder do it because Perkins can't chew gum and walk at the same time.

Yeah, the Rockets aren't a rebuilding team. I'm sure they'd rather have Lin and Asik than some picks. If one of them is OKC's pick, it's probably going to be close to #30 also.

Perkins had a -0.7 in the playoffs. As much as I don't put much stock in these stats, I think that it does help to tell the story of how useless Perkins is beyond playing defense and being an "enforcer (which I think is overrated)". A guy like him is a bench player at best IMO.

Well I think Lin and Asik if healthy each produce like $9 mil players, and Lin probably brings in a lot of money. All the reports I read are that Morey's asking price is too high for these guys. So I don't think they feel desperate.

Yeah, but 2 1st rounders is too much for only Tyson in return. I can see 1 1st rounder not 2.
Tyson has better production on almost every metric and is much better at containing guards on the pick and roll. You'll need that against the likes of Russell Westbrook, CP3, Stephen Curry, Tony Parker, etc. in the playoffs. Considering that Perkins, at the moment, isn't any better than a career journey man, the impetus is on the Thunder to produce some kind of incentive for us to make the trade. Two late first round picks are the least they could offer for a starting center in this league that is still top 10 despite all his shortcomings.
