Dolan isn't trading Melo to rebuild when he just spent 1 billion to refurbish his MSG...

If Melo is a top 5 player and hes played just about every game this season--why are we 19-31? Russell Westbrook and Chris Paul have played 1/2 the season and their teams are 20 games above .500. We have little to no cap room--why exactly will Melo stay? The way he stays is only on a whim and a prayer. Dolan and his refurbished arena is going to be Meloless one way or the other. Cleveland was confidant that they were keeping LBJ.

Tyson and Amare will occupy 38 mil of the 58 mil of the salary cap next year..Still think Melo is the problem??..Who wants Boozer and Heinrich??

It's not about Boozer and Hinrich: It's about the first round picks. Boozer, Stat and Chandler come off the books after next season, giving us potential lottery picks in this draft, another potential lottery pick in 2015 draft, and room to add two max deals (or some combination of talent to fill out the team). That's a heckuva reboot plan. I am signing onto it.

The only other options: Melo walks and leaves us high and dry. Or...Melo stays, gets his $30mil, and we continue to suck until forever. No thanks.

Or a better trade.
The reported deal is for just one pick, Butler, and a bunch of players I don't even want.
We should be getting at least a top 30 player in the league OR several picks (1st/2nd rd) for Melo. He's coming off player-of-the-month level performance.
This trade is a gift to Chicago. Even if Melo walks, we're helping them get out of Boozer's contract! We're giving them a POTM guy and saving them a couple dozen million. That's gotta be worth more than a pick and Butler.

Whether we have Melo or not, whether we are a lottery team or not, the Knicks will ALWAYS be profitable. Even in our current situation, the Knicks are the NBA's most valuable franchise. Dolan will get his billion back regardless of what we do. That being said, if Melo wants to walk, we need to trade him and Chicago would be the ideal destination.

I've never said he was a bad player. Some people (maybe not you) are sensitive and don't think it's sufficient praise to just call him an all-star level player.

NardDog - you reinforce an excellent point about the Knicks as a profit center. Win or lose.

Here is the thing, is voicing displeasure at The World's Most Famous Arena, the only ammunition that fans have against mediocrity?

Do the boos matter? If the boos do not matter to Dolan, or the bottom line, then we are screwed forever.

bad business to work like that. The franchise value has increased significantly since aquiring Melo/Stat and making the playoffs every year. Also there is another NBA franchise in the city, with a new area (its a dump but still) and they are pretty good also and backed by a billionair owner.

NYC is an event town. If the Knicks are winning 30 games a year again they will feel a hit. Trust me. There is pressure for MSG to field a good product

they do not matter as exhibited by the isiah era. the only reason isiah was let go was b/c the nba stepped in and intervened. mills is already back.

dolan is the worst owner is sports b/c he lets his gm spend money but for all the wrong reasons. you'd rather have a meddlesome owner that doesn't let the gm spend b/c that means he won't have to trade all those draft picks.

There are two sides to that coin. I actually think that this is a tremendous advantage for us to have (from the franchise's perspective). Some teams can't afford to do the right thing because of profit motives. We should always be able to do the right thing because we're ALWAYS profitable. Unfortunately, our owner is stupid and consistently advocates to do the wrong thing.

That's actually a really good point. I forgot to factor in the Nets and the role they now play in the equation. Still, I think we have the advantage of imminent domain, so I think we can still afford to build "the right way"; we just can't afford to have it as prolonged as we could have in the past.

How can Dolan be convinced to listen to different voices... not affiliated with Worldwide Wes, CAA, Isiah or a gossip columnist?...

... or stand far enough away so that a seasoned executive can do his job?

yellowboy90 @ 2/11/2014 12:41 PM
Why would Melo go to the same situation but with a better coach who might not be there.

Injury prone star: D. Rose = Amar'e

Defensive big who is not 100% come playoffs Noah = Tyson

Thibs staying would make it a better situation though.

Melo has to basically give the okay to the team he is traded to and I'm not sure Chi would get the okay.

I'm starting to realize that you can't fix stupid. Unfortunately for us, we should expect the same results until Cablevision sells the team, Dolan is replaced by Papa Dolan, or Dolan dies. These are the only conditions for hope.

Derrick Rose's peak surpassed Amar'e peak IMO. When you factor in that Rose just turned 25, it becomes clear that he is the more appealing player. Its the same deal with Noah. I much prefer him than Tyson Chandler because he actually does more than just defend. You can actually run your offense through Noah because of his passing ability. Chandler, on the other hand, is useless unless he is being spoon fed with lobs.

Well you've seen the list of organizations he's considering. If you care about winning, it certainly doesn't make sense to stay with the one that has a winning season once a decade.
