Knicks · Should We Be Targeting Loul Deng? (page 1)

NardDogNation @ 2/12/2014 1:37 PM
I think it's pretty clear that Deng will want no part of Cleveland in the future. Considering that Melo is best at the 4, would we be better served by acquiring Deng to be our 3?

Personally, I think that Loul is grossly overrated but he is still pretty good at impacting the game in multiple ways, primarily as a defender. Considering his height (6"9') and length, I think he'd be a perfect compliment next to an undersized Melo. He also has some point-forward abilities, which would make him the best orchestrator on our team by far. The more I think of it, the more I like the idea. What do you guys think?

I like it. Deng for Tyson straight up. Then we roll with Amare, Deng, Melo frontcourt.

I'd try to move Tyson for an expiring contract and assets. Then with the expiring contract, try to give the Cavs Jeff Green and Keith Bogans or Derrick Williams. Fortunately, we have the leverage because Deng is an unrestricted free agent and so they are the ones that need to save face.

Tyson for dang, and a shump Felton protected no1 for Lowry and call it a day.

No draft picks for Lowry. Never bet the farm for a guy that is an impending free agent. It's just bad business.

I still think he's overrated but I think he fits our style/needs exceptionally well. But IMO, he's never been an all star-caliber player, which people seem to think that he is.

He is a free agent, do we have money for him?

We could always sign him to a one-year, grossly overpaid deal. I'm not sure if he goes for it or not but we really got nothing to lose.

Knicks should be targeting a PG for the future.

I wasn't asking about any of that.

We have so few assets already and such a bad backcourt. We can't afford to use up our trade assets on more frontcourt players.

I don't get it, you said should we be targeting Deng. I think we should target Deng once Melo walks. But the more pressing need now is a PG who is actually good and become a corner stone for the Knicks.

That would be awesome. Could the Knicks resign him? Deng seems like a really good fit with Melo and a good locker room guy. Remove the 'good locker room guy with the championship pedigree' and insert Deng and I think it is a win for the Knicks on the court and in the locker room. Also, love the idea of Tyson in Cleveland or Toronto.

I was asking a question, not making a declarative statement. I'm not opposed to us pursing a PG we can build with but that wasn't what the topic was about. I wanted to know about Deng and how he could impact this team.

Fair but it a move isn't available to upgrade our backcourt, are we just suppose to standpat?

Is it a reach to think that we should start Tyler and not Amar'e?
