With the amount of resources the knicks had we should've stayed patient w brown. While his style of play is not aesthetically pleasing it gives u the chance to win championships. Another case where we made an ownership snap decision based on his own prejudice toward brown
When has Dolan shown his #1 goal with the knicks is to win it all under his watch ?
He just wants to be #1 in revenue made from this sports franchise.
The rangers aren't #1 in revenue in the NHL are they ?
Well, at the time we hired Brown, I was one of his biggest supporters. I always wanted somebody to come in a change the culture back to a defensive presence like the 90's....And what better person to hire at the time than Larry Brown. I actually printed pictures of the artical and posted them on the wall, thinking this will finally be the turning point for this franchise. But once Brown and Marbury clashed, it seemed like Brown was half way out the door. Dollan protects his high priced assets for good reason, because they bring in short term $$$. What Dollan doesn't have is long term vision of success on the basketball court. Until his revenue takes a hit, he will maintain the same strategy. Over pay super stars because they help increase ticket sales. Vs using winning as a higher priority, and then throw in a few over priced stars onto a winning team.
Dollan is too much of a Micro Manager and refuse to let knowledgable people run his organization. I'm hoping all of this bad press and negative public relations, which eventually will hit his bottom dollar, will make him back off and let the smart basketball minds take over this ship, before it sinks.
tells you once again, its not the coach its the MSG environment. We have had a lot of good basketball people come and go, including coaches. The result, a few blips aside are the same over and over again.
Larry Brown was such an epic failure here if anything it illuminated the level of dysfunction.
If I wasn't a UF fan I would want Billy Donavan as a coach. He always have a versatile offense that is heavy PnR, 4-1 spread, inside/out, & up tempo. On top of that he always focus on defense and has one of the best defensive teams this year.
Coaching college players vs. Pro's and defense intensity is a different ball game.
Larry is HOF for a reason. Dude knows his stuff. THat was never the issue.
IN fact, the last 8 coaches has not been the issue either.
Corp. culture that constructs roster is not on the same plane as building a winning culture that constructs rosters to achieve above the league average.
AKA: Starphuching makes more money!

Riley would have only stayed on with the Knicks, if he could have tipped the scales as a front office ownership type guy that was in the favor of winning continually and not just making big money.
Larry Brown - especially at this point - also looks better with college kids. I couldn't see him being able to reach JR Smith or Shump or Felton or whoever. So he'd probably be on par with Woody
I wish Larry Brown had worked out. I think he thought he'd have a longer leash than he did. I definitely think he was cashing paychecks with the Knicks until he could push the front office out on to the street
Since Reilly left it's pretty much been, a disappointment to say the least. look at what pats done with the heat. The biggest mistake was letting him leave for Miami. Kinda like letting parcels walk in the nfl, it's a big mistake. Pat wanted full control and we should have given it to him, we'd be the team with 3 championships instead of the heat.

True. I mean, this is the same guy who pushed for Trevor Ariza to be traded for Steve Francis for no apparent reason. LB is a solid coach and I'm not surprised by his success at the college level. If I had a kid who was ranked between 50 - 150 in the high school rankings, I would consider pushing him toward SMU. But you can't forget that Larry Brown also shares a huge load of the responsibility for his departures from NBA teams. He's inflexible, moody and conducts way too much of his coaching through the media.

Rangers are number 2 behind Toronto.
Brown made his own bed with the Knicks. He was starting players on the road just because it was the player's hometown. He was trying to push Isiah out of the picture not knowing just how close he was to Dolan. This isn't a defense of Dolan and Isiah as much as it is an indictment of the job Brown did in NY. Great coach, should have to stuck to coaching instead of getting into office politics.
