Knicks · Fire mr potato head already (page 1)
Oh wait Woodson is still running this team... 11 min for Tyler even if he's scoring points. no jr. at the point guard, Amare for 20 to 15 or 30 how ever woody feels also dose not play him when he's the best, at crunch time. Chandler for 30 plus even if he's not playing defense or not making free throws. Starting Felton with prigs even though it dose not work. Over play Melo, and prigs.our best player can't make shots in the fourth quarter because he gets 8 minutes of rest...
what dose woody think the answer is to our problem is ... Play melo bigger minutes.. Our coach is a clown or potato head, this roster in a plus 500 roster that's playing 15 under five hundred. In what I solely believe is woodys fault. I understand his rotation at the beginning of the season cause it worked last year but he forgot we don't have j Kidd, there is no reason to start a two pg Line up, we don't have three legit pg this year. A good coach would have recognized this 10 to 15 games into the season ... Shump in the starting line up blows my mind just as much as the two pgs in the starting line up. He's a energy guy who would flourish coming off the bench. Our second best player is only playing 20 minutes a game. And I don't care how bad his defense is it's not worse then Felton or chandler...at least he'll try and you know stat will give 100 and 10 percent day in and day out, unlike chandler.
If woody started Tyler,Amare, melo, thjr, prigs with chandler, shump,jr,raygun Felton, hopefully that turns into jimmer once he is released. We mark my words would be in the playoffs and teams would be fearful of us. Then next year you got a nice young starting 5 in Tyler Amare, melo, thjr, jimmer. Chandler, brigs is a nice piece off the bench as well as shump with prigs and jr. That team would make a run in the playoffs and be at least 10 over five hundred in the east.
Woodson is a very bad coach who plays veterans because he is obsessed with the turnover thing which news flash we are 15 under 500 it's not working... And he has favorites... This isn't high school you play the rotation to win. Not because chandler would cry on the bench or Felton would cry on the bench or that shump would be upset. Trust me everyone would stop bitching if we win games even chandler. Also the fact that woody thinks that chandler is our second best player makes me sick to my stomach. Is he actually watching the same game. Dose woody have a agenda against the Knicks. Still bitter we got rid of him as a player. OR is he really that stupid to think this is going to magically turn around if HE playS the same rotation that got HIM to 15 under five hundred.
This team with the right/new coach and rotation, with half to zero switching on defense. Could get 10 plus five hundred off the squad we have right now with no trades.
Woody could have Jordan instead of melo and would still be under five hundred That's how bad mr potato head is. Pull him apart and kick him out of msg for good
I called this prior to the start of this year, which many replied back with 18-3, 24 and whatever, blah blah blah blah
Under Woodson
=================
I said we could have been a fluke, as we played a water down conference along with players that were playing with a CHIP on their shoulders
We were converting a lot of our poor SHOT SELECTIONS, along with many ISO heavy OFFENSE that does not work
Many times we would be MOVING the ball, play team ball, then out of no where, ISO ball and we kept repeating the same crap
I called out our poor philosophy on DEF last season
I said we lacked a SF/PF last season, our need for a better PG that could penetrate to initiate the OFFENSE prior to Lin's run
Woodson's biggest flaw is trying to play ONE style, one philosophy, with all lineups
He tries to mimic the success of the Detroit under Larry Brown and their run, while he doesn't even have the players, IQ, versatile talent, defensive players, that are capable of running that system, he relies on veterans to coach and execute, not actually creating a mismatch, philosophy, or running plays that actually work
There is NO DECEPTION, there are no COUNTER's
VS THE PACER's last season in the playoffs, Vogul even said it is tough for Hibbert and the Pacer's to defend 5 shooters on the floor, with Copeland, as we blew the Pacer's out both games a bit prior to the play offs, but of course, even when it is written on HOW TO BEAT THEM, he opts to go something that doesn't work in favor of making Melo/JR SUPERHERO's instead of playing as a cohesive team, FORCING Hibbert to either come out to guard a Copeland so he cannot camp inside the paint
He opts to allow Melo to go 1v1 vs Paul George who was clearly already one of the top 2 way players in the league already
Woodson = incompetent and STUBBORN, inability to adapt, make changes, repeat same mistakes, and just stare, while enabling JR and Melo to take 30 shots a game
Is that COACHING?
Is that getting the team to play to its highest potential?
Is that the proper way to motivate all players and hold JR/MELO "ACCOUNTABLE" when they take poor shots/low % shots when NOT needed?
HOlding the ball, a quick move to save shot clock time... instead of moving the ball or/and utilizing the combination of PLAYER MOVEMENT, use of picks both on and off the ball (like he is using Tim Hardaway now vs Novak (as a spread offense), and finding different angles to either score or keep the DEF honest?
If you watch Woodson's Show recently, the assistant coaches throw Woodson under the bus saying "It is our job to give our opinion but in the end, Woodson calls the shots and that is just the way it is, even if the coaches have a different opinion from it....
Under Dantoni
====================
I blasted Dantoni for not giving Lin a shot despite our dire need of change
I was also the first one to say Melo would excel playing the PF instead of the SF, as he would create a mismatch, and the team would be able to play off that mismatch much better vs 85% of the entire league
Especially if Dantoni wanted Melo to play the facilitator role, similar to how Amare was used at PF, I believed Melo would be able to do much more at the PF when he wanted him to play point/forward
And I blasted both, calling them complete opposites but with the same weakness's
- STUBBORN, lack of adjustments, unwilling to make changes
- Was unable to inspire team to play hard for all 4 quarters
- BOTH are horrible in terms of developing young players
- They both constantly put in the same players that have failed but for some reason except a different result, time after time
Under "Linsanity"
======================
Lin was able to do what Melo was unable to do, make other's around him better, play a style that kept entire team involved, despite lacking talent
Fields excelled playing the SF vs Melo despite Melo being 10x the more talented player
No Lin would not be able to do win a Championship by himself but he could have been a piece to the puzzle
As it turns out neither would Melo, in fact, Lin was able to produce more W's, lead the team to play a better system on OFF and play better DEF, even with MUCH TALENT
Why was Chandler so much more effective on both OFF and DEF when Lin ran the show?
Lin/TD
Iman/JR Smith/Fields
Fields/Novak/Walker
JJ/Novak
Chandler
come on ALL those players combined make much less than 2 of our "ALL STARs" but were able to play a TEAM GAME that was effective, fun to watch, and kept team mates all happy with exemption to ONE player
This isn't about me "TRYING to say",
" I TOLD YOU SO"
or
" glorifying myself
It is about, me showing I understand how to properly utilize a rotation, recognizing talent, and getting the credibility I think I deserve when I voice my opinoin
Instead, just like all the above, I get constantly bashed, ironically from the same posters, that continue to jaw with me
No, I have made mistakes, but I also have given plenty of great advice for our Knicks
And I wish I was wrong, in fact, I thought I possibly was wrong last year when we were off to that hot start
but
as I continued to watch the games, I saw Woodson's flaws, lack of adjustments, poor use of rotations, and just plain favoritism of the same players
I have stated that Woodson must play Copeland and build on him at PF/C, preferably C, but felt he was going to banish him once the playoffs hit, and his favoritism comes out again with his heavy ISO plays that do not work
I wish I was wrong cause it hurts as a Die Hard Knick's fan but I was not, at least for many things
I also said things that NO ONE would think of like playing Melo at the 4, pushing to play Lin, why we were losing prior to Lin's run, etc... how we could fix it, play better
I have always been looking in the best interest of THE KNICK's and not ONE player, even suggesting keeping Lin and selling him prior to the 3rd year if needed
In the end, it didn't effect the 2015 plan, being much over the cap with 3 players alone, not a very hard decision....
EnySpree wrote:An intern can be ordered to play the youth and the new guys....I dunno what the hold up is.
Exactly. Dolan must like how Woodson takes care of him. What else can it be?
It's like he was coaching as if this team was in a rebuilding mode, rather than a playoff team, w/ his numerous rotations. I almost want to blame it on the addition of Bargs, but even w/ him out, he still can't get it right. Think Artest's comments about Kidd confirmed what most had already speculated. Kidd was obviously a big crutch for him last season and the diff between then and now should speak volumes about his coaching ability.
Woodson's only consistency seems to be his lack of in game adjustments. He's gotta go.

Dolan thinks this team is winning a chip
Mike Woodson won 54 games last season. Jason Kidd, Rasheed Wallace, Kurt Thomas, Marcus Camby, Chris Copeland and even Steve Novak are sorely missed. What happened to the roster was a complete tear down of its heart and soul and poise.
The coach was force fed Chris Smith. You do the math.

Who's to say Woodson didn't ask for the roster moves? No one knows. And even if he was dealt a poor hand, his coaching has had a direct impact on the putrid record. Same mistakes and horrible D remain from the beginning of the season. If he had to count on the vets that much last year he's not the man for the job.
Woodson can't coach offense. That's why he relies on his veteran PGs. Problem is this year those guys are day, beno and prigioni. We can do a heck of a lot better with someone other than Woodson
If melo got more rest during the game and was fresh for the fourth quarter that's prob plus ten in our win department. Also put Timmy as our starting two and honestly I would put jr as our pg, between him and prigs they have the best court vision.
Amare should be starting and playing crunch time minutes. He can score when it counts with the best of them. Woody continues to sit him on our bench when the time matters most.
Stop over rating chandler. He takes breaks and doesn't always give 100 percent. Kinda like Derrick Colman out there but with zero offense ability. He lets pg in the paint at will, he's a back up at best .
Play the youth they have played better then the vets JT4 is our best offensive center and we really don't miss much defense when he's on the floor. At least he isn't afraid to knock the opposing point guard on his ass. Also more time for Tyler the better he will get.
Woody is so short sighted he needs to go
woodson is a very flawed coach, but too much blame going to him..
tkf wrote:WAY To much blame on woodson around here.. way too much blame.. this just leads me to believe that some of you still haven't come to terms that this team isn't that good, bad mix of talent, overpaid allstars and no leadership... Sorry but gonna have to disagree on that this team is pretty talented, woody just does not have the balls to make change for good... Also his melo substitution is the worst I've seen. Melo should come out around 5 minutes left in each of the three quarters. That 15 minutes plus time out time and halftime . Then play him through out the fourth when it matters most. We are loosing games solely on the fact melo is exhausted in the fourth.
Talent wise. We should be around 40 to 50 wins with this team. A good coach would send Felton to the bench, as well as shump, I wanna say chandler too because Tyler has way more upside. Amare needs to start he is too talented to sit the bench and he's one of the best clutch players in the game still and woody still rides him on the pine when it counts.
The way this team should be played is. Jr,thjr, melo,Amare,Tyler with chandler, shump, Felton, prigs. hopefully jimmer too.
Now let's look at that starting line up everyone can hit open shots so a defense can't take a break or double team with out being punished. Jr I've considered our best floor general for some time now.
Thjr would feast on opposing defense leaving him open to double team melo or amare, same goes for Tyler who can hit anything inside the three point line. Also the guy is a beast on the boards and he'll only get better with time. So let's look at the bench, chandler can give you a solid 20 off the bench. Hopefully play some defense grab some boards. Shump can come in and add some energy,Felton and prigs are solid back ups in this league .
That rotation would be in the playoffs and above 500 mark my words. Also keeps injury prone players fresh and ready like chandler, shump,Felton.
Now what would you rather have woodys starting line up which is 15 under 500, and can't hit open shots and relies on pick and rolls with chandler who can only dunk and if he puts the ball on the floor 70 percent of the time it's a turnover.
Or the line up I listed above ... Don't talk about how bad the defense would be. We are already one of the worst defensive teams with chandler in the starting line up.. He does not help much.
It was horrible” said Udrih. “We were forced to watch the most torturous display of basketball for 2-3 hours straight. That whole time I had to watch a fat guy dribble a ball around, while we were on the bench starving for minutes. I was forced to sit next to a giant hulking idiot with a tooth missing. Every now and then we had to stand around in a circle, hoping the coach would choose us to play meaningful minutes, but that opportunity almost never came.”Drawings Reveal The Horror!
DRAWINGS REVEAL THE HORROR!
The survivors tell tales of the stark division between the haves and the have-nots. “Some players can drink all night,” described Udrih “and yet still get major playing time the next day while the rest of us are compelled to sit. Even on a Sunday matinee game. On the other hand if I had one turnover, I get a tongue lashing in front of thousands of people.” He tearfully added “I can’t get the memories of those 20 foot step back jumpers out of my head.”“Mentally it was rough on me,” offered Metta World Peace. “Watching players just blow past our defenders from the perimeter filled me with shame. Coach would tell our guys to switch on defense in order to c

that just tells me all I need to know about the grasp you have on this team and how good they are. and with that, I won't debate this any further as I think it will be futile..

wow, I did have to respond to this. I am a huge amare fan, or used to be, but this just delusional.. amare can't start on those knees, and one of the best clutch players in the game? really.. I find it hard to believe that you think sitting felton, chandler and shumpert and playing the guys we have on this bench will result in a 50 win team.... wow!!!
so last year, woodson is coach, we win 54 games.. carmelo as most of you said is having a better year than last year... so basically we are going to be around 20 games worse than last year or more.. and all of that is because of woodson? what did he do differently last year? or maybe Jason kidd was just that good for us? Your argument doesn't fit... And if you say chandler, felton and shumpert are not playing well, then how is that on woodson? If benching them is an option then I don't see how you can expect 40-50 wins with guys like tyler.. come on bro..
very flawed roster. PG play dismal, JR bigger liability than asset, etc. That being said, there is ZERO offensive strategy/structure, and a defensive 'strategy' that players openly criticize in the media, and usually fully ignore on the court. Me (lo - even tired - too talented to be 1-20 in late and close, alot of that blame falls on the coach whose idea of calling plays is ISO ball.
Flawed roster and inept coaching (non-coaching?)....

Exactly. It doesn't have to be either/or. I can be BOTH a flawed roster and bad coaching.

Sorry brotha but yes this team has the talent to win in the nba.. It's how you use your talent. Amare is still great yea those knees are shaken, but at this point if amare goes down with another knee injury he's prob going to retire. Let him go down on top he's still our second best scorer. Yes before woody banished him to a reserve role he was very clutch before melo came here he sealed the deal in a lot of games. The whole myth that amare and melo can't play together is crap. Tyson gets more pick and rolls then amare which blows my mind. If anything chandler is and should be the odd man out not amare.
As for Tyler he needs more minutes. And yes boost his confidence up by starting him, he gives you way more on offense then chandler could dream of. Also we need a coach that gets the whole team involved in the offense. Run some plays for Tyler, he's great with his back to the basket. He's also a athletic freak who can run the floor and throw it down with fierceness.
We need a coach that knows how to own his team like Reily and jvg. I don't think pat or jvg would care if Tyson bitched on the bench or Felton. They would simply tell them I'm here to win and you guys can't hit the side of a barn.
Also stop taking out players because they turned the ball over.. Exp Tyler hits a turn a round jumper and a dunk then gets striped the third time down and gets taken out of the game and gets a earful. I'm like wtf Imagine if woody disaplained everyone on the team the same. Tyson would never see the floor with the rate he turns the ball over same with Felton's inability to hit open shots. Like I said this isn't high school where you play favorites. Play the players that give you the best chance to win. And right now woody is not doing that, where is the punishment when Tyson repeatedly lets the opposing guards get open lay ups.
