I feel its a very fair assessment From George Karl. Im sure some will accuse him of sour grapes but he pretty much stated the facts. I like Melo but i also accept his abilities and flaws

Agree. Karl has been going after him a bit when he is down also. He was on espn radio Friday afternoon criticizing Melo as well.

Actually not a bad article. He did make a lot of good points. See DK it is possible to write something that criticizes Melo without throwing in insults and your personal disdain for him.

But the article does give better voice to the knock against Melo. I hope the Knicks can keep him and figure out how to get him the help he needs. Solid in-prime or veteran point guard is absolutely required to make sure plays are being executed. I wasn't a fan of his but he's grown on me. I care most about value.
Melo is an elite specialist as an offensive one-on-one player. He's not bad on defense either, and is very durable. Leads league in minutes. You have to give him that, regardless of whatever weird race-based speculation you have on his conditioning. Paul Pierce's physique never impressed me, and I never understood how he could make all those slow jerky layup go in with and-1s: IQ, body control, awesome at tricking his defender with fakes. How do you learn that move in a weight room? Pierce needed the right pieces around him to win.

durable yes although throughout his career he has missed his share of games. conditioning not convinced. i was taught if you're going to go 12 rounds then train for 15. this speaks to the most nuanced part of the article about "merely" playing hard contrasted with doing all the little things.
pierce's footwork is among the best we have seen in the last 15 years, as well as his head and ball fakes. that footwork and faking puts pierce among the top iq players too. very underrated passer and chemistry guy. his game is tailor-made for playoff basketball. if melo had the footwork and craftiness of pierce his stamina would never be an issue but because he lacks that footwork he expends more energy, requiring greater stamina.

Its funny with Karl because he is far from a perfect guy and evolved and overcame some demons as he grew older and coached in different places. No one brings up the personal demons that he struggled with in Golden State when he was a young coach but he is quick to criticize a guy that he worked with who was 20-26. Some good things in that article but I think Karl has an axe to grind.

Did you not see that the majority of the posters in this thread say this article made good/fair points? The argument has always been to stick to basketball and not to an agenda.
And Karl clearly does not like Melo.

some of the point he brings up anthony still is doing. he still needs others to be that leader in the locker/court. karl may have evolved and changed, we seem to still be waiting for anthony to do so. at this point 10+ seasons into his pro career, im not sure that wait is going to pay off, at least with him being the #1 guy or the things you might expect from the #1 guy.

I thought George karl was pretty fair. the problem with soem melo fans is that they think he is better than he is. I like melo but i also agree that he is a great scorer but he doenst have great overall talent on both sides of the ball and he doenst really make ghuys around him better. Thats not a knock on him its just the way he is talent wise. I think melo can wina title BUT he cant be the main guy he needs to play with a guy who has better overall talent

I agree. He might not like Karl because he is critical of Melo(he makes fair points) but Karl also is a cancer survibor so no need to get on him
