From what I'm reading, front runners are Lakers, Bulls, Knicks: all NBA flagships. He can handle the media in any of them. Hard to see him go to a smaller market, the big city helps his bottom line too. Can he play for or Thibs though?

What is the best kind of coach for a guy like Melo anyway?

I really can't fault him for getting his money in the first place. Now he's entering his 30s, we'll see if he thinking about history. You know his old Cuse coach wants him to get some rings. Can he get there with the Knicks?

Don't know much about the Bulls but my buddy from Chicago says Thibs would definitely get on Melo if he's not playing how he should and, unlike here, Thibs has the backing of the higher ups and won't have to take it easier on some guys more than others for fear of being fired.

Maybe if Melo really had to hustle for Thibs it would be too hard for him and his game will suffer.

Well I don't know about that. I'm just saying that he'd truly be able to be held accountable unlike here.

Nobody is changing him. Karl tried when Melo was young. He is who he is.

Now, surround him with good to very good players and he can win.

He has become such a lethal 3 point shooter now, he just needs someone who can create and dish for/to him.

Also, 35 minutes a game (max) should help him.

Well I was speaking more to the point that Thibs is a no nonsense coach and he'd enforce his system/importance on defense. It's just different from what would happen here.

Pretty sure things would be a lot easier for him on a team like the bulls. Also, no way he has to play the minutes he plays now.

Yeah, but would he be better off staying here?

Gonna regret not trading him at the deadline. Not only does Denver have a chance at a top 10 pick but we get no compensation

if melo doesn't go to chicago he just proves that he has always been afraid of working on the uphill side of the court. melo is going to look bad except in one scenario which is offering to play for what he is actually worth which is 12-13 million a year. he owes new yorkers that and big time.

big time character check for carmelo anthony.

or he could do the right thing and ask for 12-13 million a year since he wanted to be here in the first place but allowed greed to cloud his judgement.

history will not be kind to him if he leaves. i wonder if he cares?

U sound like u will be disappointed if he leaves, shocker...

i would find it acceptable for him to remain a knick at a fair price and that means a major drop in salary. do you have a problem with that or do you value stuffing his pockets over the knicks actually winning?

interesting choice and your response will be quite revealing.

He should go to Chicago because that is his best chance to win. He has to be an idiot to stay here. The team has no plan unless he takes a nice discount but even if he does, great we'll get Tyreke Evans, Nick Young, Josh Smith, Jennings etc ...

In Chicago the team is in place and its a win now situation.

This is a done deal - no brainer. LA? No way! Def not the Lakers.

funny you say he doesn't owe ny anything. that was the same sentiment i held when he was in denver and then look what he did for denver!

or maybe you feel the two scenarios are utterly different? and if you do please explain in what way they are? i need to be educated.

no matter what he does it is lose-lose for him. stay in new york and be a loser or join chicago and be forever reviled by new yorkers while hating to work hard for thibodoux or be benched. really good stuff! this is a fate he so richly deserves.

I am no great Melo fan and despise his flaws. I do respect that he is talented but top 15 not top 5.

Do you really think that he would have waited until the off season with the new CB coming? And with his cancerous agents blabbering in his ear? You give him way too much credit if you blame him for this decision. He is not the biggest genius and did what most would have done (that year). Maybe in retrospect he regrets the way that went down just like Lebron regrets that stupid "decision". These guys do dumb things, though Melo's at the time did not seem as dumb (new CB).

I don't want him here for more than 18-20. I think that is realistic. However, if he leaves, I am okay because that means that we get a fresh start in 2015. Who knows maybe we'll get lucky and make good "decisions" (one could hope).

you throw out 18-20 as though that will enable the knicks to afford other players in the formation of a winner. you don't truly believe that because that is an absurd amount to pay and you would need an absolute genius gm and incredible luck to make a winner out of the knicks.

hence if you are not a genius gm and you know that you have squandered your luck then you must lowball the shit out of him or let the chips fall where they may.

I think its a lose lose situation. I think 18-20, we can still get lucky. I think if they let him go, perhaps they can still get lucky and rebuild a winner (though I doubt that). I certainly don't think that he would take less than 18 and certainly with the knicks having zero plan or any vision for a successful future.

I am okay with him leaving. Would like to see him succeed in chicago and will not hate him for leaving. Its a business and there is no loyalty on either side.

He is not a bad guy, he just takes too many ill advised shots and does not see how those few extra dumb shots kill his efficiency numbers.

In Chicago, I think that they can absorb is weaknesses and can gain from his dynamic scoring capabilities. Maybe they can actually fine tune him, who knows. Anything is possible - its the right move for him. NY is a petri dish of crap.

Don't know much about the Bulls but my buddy from Chicago says Thibs would definitely get on Melo if he's not playing how he should and, unlike here, Thibs has the backing of the higher ups and won't have to take it easier on some guys more than others for fear of being fired.

if melo doesn't go to chicago he just proves that he has always been afraid of working on the uphill side of the court. melo is going to look bad except in one scenario which is offering to play for what he is actually worth which is 12-13 million a year. he owes new yorkers that and big time.

big time character check for carmelo anthony.

He doesn't owe NY anything. C'mon.

Do you really think that he would have waited to the off season with the new CB coming? And with his cancerous agents blabbering in his ear? You give him way too much credit if you blame him for this decision. He is not the biggest genius and did what most would have done (that year). Maybe in retrospect he regrets the way that went down just like Lebron regrets that stupid "decision". These guys do dumb things, though Melo's at the time did not seem as dumb (new CB).

I don't want him hear for more than 18-20. I think that is realistic. However, if he leaves, I am okay because that means that we get a fresh start in 2015. Who knows maybe we'll get lucky and make good "decisions" (one could hope).

you throw out 18-20 as though that will enable the knicks to afford other players in the formation of a winner. that is an absurd amount to pay and you would need an absolute genius and incredible luck to make a winner out of theknicks.

hence if you are the gm you must lowball the shit out of him or let the chips fall where they may.

Unfortunately we brought in Mills to more or less keep him here by any means necessary

overpaying carmelo anthony will alienate the fanbase. a tipping point is at hand i guarantee you. i hope the league intervenes somehow.

I don't think they can unless Dolan tries to work Isiah into is somehow. Giving Melo all that money won't alienate the ones that go to the games though. I don't want to overpay for him but a paycut will probably only be mentioned by him. I thin Mills/Dolan will have no problem giving him the max amount.

Would you want Melo to resign here at 12-13 million?

here is the thing.. Denver is going to miss the playoffs, they will get a lottery pick anyway.. if the knicks pick is higher they keep that pick and then Denver's pick will go to the orlando magic.. making them an even better team in the east next year... Knicks can't catch a break, but they did this to themselves..

honestly? NO... I rather a younger, more rounded SF.. one who can initiate offense and defend... one who has his best years ahead of him.. I don't think carmelo is a winner, I don't want his influence on this franchise any more... I want him gone...

NY is a petri dish of crap.

it's lose-lose for him. if luck exists the knicks squandered it already in the lin situation. lin was a blessing that melo crapped on. so far as vision there was no vision in acquiring melo in the first place, no vision and no plan.

here is the "decisioning" in february 2011: melo wanted to get paid and dolan wanted a star.

i don't see him winning in chicago i see a divisive presence.

so far as too many ill-advised shots yes this is one of the several huge flaws in his game that hurts his teams deeply. i don't think chicago would ever have the wherewithal to overcome that, especially with a diminished and unevolved derrick rose. i don't think joakim noah would stand for melo's shenanigans no matter how well-intentioned his recruiting is in the present.
