Control
Bottom line... will Dolan give up control... to anyone?
President of Basketball Operations
Slap me silly and call me Susan is this happens. Would Phil run the front office and hire a coach or does he want to coach again? This would make a huge splash and get some of the city back from Brooklyn
According to ESPN, the conversation happened three weeks ago.
stay tuned.
I would not be surprised if Amare's expiring is traded for Kobe if this went down
Phil would be a great way to keep melo in nyc and recruit other players to nyc...
Phil said he was not interested.

The sources told Smith the message the Knicks received from Jackson was that he was not interested in the position at this time.
Here is to hoping.

That's a smart man right there

Might be why Woodson is still here. We will see in the off season
Gotta love the Knicks soap opera - always full of drama and rumors.

what changes in the off season? I mean- chicken and egg here - would Phil coach if Dolan gave him power & we were able to swing a Kobe for Stat & Chandler type deal, and Melo resigns?
Well, we don't make those moves without Phil firmly on board.
If he said he wasn't interested at this time - I don't see any indication in that statement that would give me hope.
Dolan should throw him a slice of ownership. It would be the best money Dolan could spend.
I'm sure Woodsons gonna love answering questions about Phil before tonights game
I'm not really into PJAx coaching at this point, however, please throw him the keys to the kingdom and let him be this organization's Pat Riley
I think the only decent coach we have a shot at is JVG
I wouldn't be surprised if he was hired to run the team. He won't coach though.
Exactly

+11
As much as I would love any of that, there is absolutely nothing in the reporting to indicate any such occurrence is likely, not now or in the future.

There's reason to believe Phil will come back to basketball in a front office capacity. He did an interview at the Sloan conference a week ago and said there have been discussions with teams that he can't get into, but that he's interested in front office opportunities.
Now this leaks that he met with Mills several weeks ago. So I don't think it's crazy to think he'd come to run the organization. But is it crazy to think he'd be promised autonomy and Dolan would keep his word? I don't know.
If the Knicks get a basketball Czar, they'd be coming into a situation that isn't as perilous ans everyone makes it seem. Even if Melo leaves, cap space will be cleared after next season, we have a pick next year and all our picks after 2017.
But everything that we have going for us is only as valuable as the people setting the course.
