I don't think anyone thinks Phil could not do better. My four year old could.To me, the odd thing is Phil doesn't strike me as a 'data' kind of talent evaluator, and yet that is supposedly what Dolan wanted when he brought McKinsey in to offer up a review - which supposedly led to Mills' hiring.
I keep seeing people bringing up that Dolan had McKinsey do some management consulting for him - but does McKinsey have any history of consulting successfully for other NBA teams?
I know they are a top form but if they don't normally do this sort of think I would take their recommendations with a grain of salt. Granted they are all smarter than Dolan so they are probably right - but do they have a sports consulting group? I haven't heard of it or looked into it so I am curious.

I agree. The biggest upside to PJax getting a front office position is that he would almost certainly negotiate a level of autonomy regarding basketball decisions that no other gm has had for quite awhile. Also, can't see Phil not having frequent press conferences which would require a change in the media policy. Not sure there is anything to this.

Dolan is a bitch. I am really convince that this franchise isn't going anywhere now. Phil's cup will surely run over fooling around with this team. This is a straight up money grab for the guy. Phil has never built a team from the ground up, and was given 4 of the greatest NBA players to win all those championships. It will be the opposite. We will not see any titles around here in the next 40 years. Dolan, while you're at it, hire Scott Pippen as the general manager.

I hope this is true. Hiring Phil Jackson in any capacity would be counter productive to the Knick brand. Man, I hate what Dolan has done to this team. Dolan need to allow basketball minds full control of this team.

I wonder who'd be hire to coach. Triangle disciple or JVG boy that would be ironic but completely awesome. Coming in together they can build a team and stick to a plan.
These things usually pan out. It's later on when players start getting older and the roster changes that the disagreements start between GM and coach

theres absolutely no way that phil would accept the job without having absolute assurance from dolan himself that there'd be no meddling. broussard was on espn before (i know it's broussard 
) but he said even steve mills would be smart enough to dell dolan to step aside and that dolan would listen to mills. who knows.

In the end Phil has seen a TON of winning up close. You can't be around that much success and not absorb a wealth of knowledge. I can't think of a better person to head this BB organization. After all the nonsense, we'd be able to have a respectable and knowledgeable BB Man at the top. As long suffering fans we deserve that.

Another apparent effort by ownership to get the best. Larry Brown - who they gave absolute control - pity that didn't work out, inexplicable. Hope Jax comes. Also, if these reports true, hope it can put to rest the constant groan read alot about "dolan doesn't want to win". nonsense - of course he wants to win - in past, just hasn't been able to. Whether Jax comes or not (and NYK wouldn't be the first offer he turned down over the years), to me, it does demonstrate the obvious desire of ownership to try to win. Some bad luck and bad decisions have gotten in the way, but, he's reached out - and usually given authority - to lots of top name front office folks- let's hope he lands Phil.
This is like signing Dantoni. The only thing we know is he will be able to recruit stars. We don't know if he can put a winning team together like west and Riley. I guess you have to take the chance though cos it's Phil jax
Phil and JR together would be so fun. What if Phil does the improbable? It's more likely if he accepts the job he will trade him. I think JR and GSW would be a nice fit.
