Knicks · NBA TV REPORTING PHIL JACKSON TO NY IS OFFICIAL AND A DONE DEAL (page 2)
yellowboy90@ 3/12/2014 11:51 PM
Bring in Patty Mills and sign Scottie Wilbekin(SEC player of the year and Defensive player of the year) as a UFA or buy a 2nd to draft him.
I was not sure about Mills as a pg because of his low assists but in the triangle. Make it happen Cap'n.
Also, Wilbekin is a true defensive point with long range shooting. Think Patrick Beverly intensity with probably more upside as a true point given Billy D's offensive system. The kid cam into school as a 16 year old(played at 17) and earned minutes guarding opposing teams best offensive guard or wing. His overall FG% is down but he has been so clutch after shaking off the rust earlier in the season because of suspension and injury.

One of the thousands rumors articles about the Jackson saga suggested that Phil would consider going back to the sidelines as a way to train and pass the torch to a young assistant that would take over from him the next year. This would be interesting.
But right now Id like to know how much power will Phil have in NY. If he signed because Dolan promised to trust him and leave him to build his team, then I will be extremely excited, no matter how much experience Jackson has as a team president. Anybody but Dolan and Isiah and Mills.
mreinman@ 3/13/2014 3:01 AM
still gets me a bit nervous that this has only been reported by NBA tv and Greg Anthony.
Why is nobody else confirming?
mreinman@ 3/13/2014 3:45 AM
Listening to a great interview with Pjax.
yellowboy90@ 3/13/2014 3:58 AM
Will Phil employ a more analytical style? Can the triangle work in today's "small ball/ 1-4 spread" style?
gunsnewing@ 3/13/2014 5:28 AM
Rick Fox for coach

That would be the best thing. Like Riley did in Miami and for spoeltra

I hope this is not an April Fool's joke

Phil will hire according to whom has the potential to fulfill the system he sees best for the talent he will assemble. Shaw would have been the likely choice but he is in Denver.
Rambis had a disaster in Minny and it might have been the wrong fit for him. Remember, its about potential not always past result. Don't look for the obvious choice.
My take is Phil was ready to take over the SAC franchise if it went to Seattle and I assume he had his coach in mind. Now, if that was shaw thats not an option. If it was Kerr then its based on potential. Kerr is a winning kind of guy.
franco12@ 3/13/2014 8:27 AM
I'd have nothing against Rambis - at least he would hopefully get guys to play hard.
I can definitely see the triangle working with our roster, with Melo in the MJ/Kobe role.

Don't worry, I'm sure Dolan protected them!
PresIke@ 3/13/2014 9:52 AM
well, i didn't think there could be any news that could make this season leave us feeling with much hope at all.
of course, we all know we've been duped before, but i can't really see us doing much else with an owner like dolan in charge.
we are likely not going to blow it up and wait 5 years to see a chance of winning again.
jackson is here to get melo to step up his game, or at least design a team to fit his strengths, and recruit the big names.
it may not be a 'game changer' but it is probably the best we can do right now.

Phil had an exKnick exBull player that was one of his asst coaches in chi and LA.... Pete Myers. Where is he now? I remember MJ and Phil being high on him
Knicksfan@ 3/13/2014 10:22 AM
Nobody else confirming it... Yet...
markvmc@ 3/13/2014 10:31 AM

well, it hasn't been officially announced. greg anthony said there is a to but some details need to be worked out. and it seems to have come from a text message directly to greg anthony, who then showed it to rick fox and both claimed it is a VERY reliable source.
the guess is, of course. that is phil jackson himself, or someone so close to him that they know the deal.
i also suspect kobe wouldn't be freaking out as he is if he did not think it was about to happen.
franco12@ 3/13/2014 5:03 PM
lot of laker talk going on. I'm worried Phil has played us....
gunsnewing@ 3/13/2014 5:09 PM
That would be epic. Even more than the 2 other times
gunsnewing@ 3/13/2014 5:13 PM
Eh Kobe and his 40yr old $25mil is coming to NY for sure

Myers as a potential coach seems like a better choice then Cleamons, Cartwright, or Rambis.
