Knicks · Maybe it's time to move on. Seems like every thread is a Hate Melo thread. What do you think? (page 5)

Obviously, he's talking about what the player is worth to his team, not what the player is worth based on GMs' perceived supply and demand. You're just using the word "worth" differently.
If Melo's percieved market value is Max but his actual worth to a team is only $10 - $12 million (per DK).......how is this difference reconciled? It is a fair question for DK (or you by proxy since you often seem to answer on behalf of DK).
Further - DK presented Melo as a 2.5 to 3rd option as his fact base for Melo making a salary of $10 - $12 million. He's played for 4 NBA coaches and a HOF College coach who had him as #1 option. We've only got another 2 months of it to put up with- the Melo either gets traded or re-signs with us long term (at which point I think the melo haters will quit the boards)
I don't have a problem with people critiquing Melo, but I get a bit bored when it's the same point over and over and over again- it's like being stuck in a rut. At some point you have to accept you've made your case, and move on to another subject
i for one won't stick around if he is resigned to such a high salary that it leaves the knicks no chance to acquire players who will put him in his place. believe it or not melo will be a good player at the right price, which is around 12-13 million per year. but every dollar above 13 million makes him worse and worse. it's always a balance of price versus value. he didn't understand that and of course he had the perfect accomplice in dolan.
that's why phil jackson being here is so important, assuming he has complete autonomy. he is a smart and persuasive man and he has 13 reasons for people to back that up.
sorry if critiquing a player is boring but you see his game has not evolved in areas that are required to win, and his arrival created so much turmoil that the knicks could never get the right players in place to achieve anything substantial.
yeah my love for the knicks outstrips my hatred for carmelo anthony. the good folks at realgm don't understand such nuances-- do you? as i said-- the reason i no longer posted there was because a global mod-- a gaulieiter with a username of "moocow"-- didn't take kindly to the suggestion that he remove carmelo anthony's nuts from his mouth. so it was personal not philosophical. besides that he was one of the most ignorant basketball posters i have ever encountered in a position of authority. everything he said was wrong. everything he predicted was wrong. you can look it up. he was quite stupid really. he occupied that dangerous territory of middling intellect and power, probably around 118-124 IQ i reckon.
my iq is a good deal higher.
anyhoo some people around here like the taste of melo's nuts. i am pretty sure you are not one of them so what is your problem with what i post?
IQ is like education... When you need to remind people of yours it's because it doesn't show. You got kicked off because your a troll. You and your compadre both
well of course you are wrong again sunny jim-- but hey see if you prefer cozying up to your spiritual brethren moocow and godshamgod on realgm knicks they have nice big couches.
here's a thought experiment: if it is true that i am a troll then why have i not been banned from this forum? are you saying that martin and andrew do not know what they are doing? if they disagree with you-- and apparently they do-- does this mean they are liars or stupid?
seems like everyone you disagree with is a lowlife and a moron.
You dont seem to like it when people infer that you're stupid. Why is that?
It's funny that it drives you so wild. I would think that someone who says such patently dumb things would be used to it by now. Couching it in fancy vocabulary doesn't make you any smarter. Just makes you a moron with just enough sense to buy a dictionary.
To be clear, your opinion on things in general:
If somebody asks you to clarify your position, a position you hold with a thin minority of people, they're stealing from you by wanting you to further elucidate your opinion. It is in fact their job to fresh out your ideas and positions. How dare they request further info. You dont know them!!! Question. How many people on this board do you know personally? Aren't we all stealing from you?
James Dolan is a lowlife. Its on your SIG. Granted Jim Dolan is a shocking owner of a sports team but a lowlife? Do you know his private life? His charitable donations? His family and circle of friends? The way he maybe went out of his way to help an old ladyaccross the street last week? (Could've happened and you wouldnt know either way would you?) But you have ordained him a lowlife.
Steve Mills is a probably lowlife. See above. Really? Ok.
Carmelo Anthony is only worth $10m a year. Putting aside the fact that some would argue all athletes are obscenely Overpaid and there for none of them are worth millions of anything the fact remains that, as many have tried to point out to you, the market sets a players value and the marker for Carmelo Anthony is a Max contract. So rail against that if you will but to claim otherwise is, well, dumb.
I could go on about all the insipid, self-aggrandising things you say but I dont want to tax your considerable IQ. Your ludicrously inflated opinion of yourself only makes it funnier. There are scores of posters on this board alone who have proven over years and even decades that their basketball knowledge dwarfs yours but in your little universe they are as nothing to your monstrous self-evaluation. I bet that when Fishmike didnt respond to you you thought "hah, finally he realises he has met his match. I have decimated his argument and his self esteem and I am the worlds winner" when in fact he just got bored of interacting with such an obvious plonker.
Youre entitled to any opinion you wish to hold. Just dont expect anyone to give them any credence when expressed by such an obvious boor. Especially when your position is "I dont have to explain myself to you. Do you know who I am?!" Troll is a decent description for want of a better word. I bet everyone at work loves you.
Come on, at least admit that he and TKF were the only ones here right about the team this year, and maybe take notes when they talk instead.https://josephmallozzi.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/bm-costume.jpg
I see you are still on your "Captain save-a-poster" steeze again. My response to the post above had nothing to do with predicting what the Knicks were going to do this year (I was not one of the posters that predicted 50-60 wins...I'm on record as saying the Knicks overachieved last year). Look at the what I bolded and you will see what myself and many others have been saying about dk for a minute.
Thanks; I was already pretty sure your were not interested in how accurate people's views were.

It's reconciled by the consistent finding that GMs substantially overpay for volume scoring. You can predict pretty well how much a player will get paid if you know nothing about him other than his PPG. Berri's books are a good place to start but you can find several other writers covering this topic now too.
No, #2 or #3 option means that on a championship team, he'd be a 2 or 3 option. Since there aren't 30 championship level teams, you can make the conclusion of 60 players above.

Ahh....the old "go read up" response. Doesn't really answer the question. Are you saying that NBA GM's know nothing about Melo other than his PPG in this day an age of constant media, extensive video and advanced stats?

I gave you the explanation and the sources to find the details. I mean, i typed the terms "David Berri," "NBA salary," and "PPG" in Google and got plenty of results immediately. If you really want the info., you can get it in just a few seconds but my guess is you just want to attack the idea without even learning about it. Here's one source to get you started in case you actually wanted to learn more.
http://www.suu.edu/faculty/berri/Scoreto...
And to answer your question, no, they have much more info. than PPG. They just don't give much weight to it.

It's also reconciled by the fact that it's easier to sign one marquee free agent to generate ticket sales than to actually build a contending team.
The easiest, no brainer thing you can do to insure a team generates decent ticket sales is to starphuch.
It takes much more discipline to build a championship team.
What do you think Dolan is in favor of?

Come on, at least admit that he and TKF were the only ones here right about the team this year, and maybe take notes when they talk instead.
A stopped clock is right twice a day as well...And they are not right, their gripe is against Melo, who has been an all NBA player all year...
We're still waiting for your first let alone second though!
It's pointless, I won't waist my time...Their arguments aren't objective...

Why are you avoiding my response? Speaking of accurate, again, read what I bolded and tell me that is not accurate about dk? Then again, "captain-save-a-poster" would never admit anything negative about his distressed damsel....

Another fair question is what other NBA players should be ahead of him as offensive options? If he is truely a #3 option....this should mean that there are about 60 players ahead of him that would be go to guys on offense before Melo.
i believe the range i have been using pretty consistently is the 12-13 million range in the context of playing for the knicks. maybe you can find the post or posts where i said 10-12 million-- in which case i will happily admit that was a mistake. if you can't then you should happily apologize for speaking falsely about another poster here. that's fair, isn't it? and the adult thing to do?
gallinari is being paid fairly at 10.1 million for the situation he is in in denver. had he been retained as a knick he would be worth about the same, maybe a little less depending on who came here and at what price tag.
so far as a 2.5 to 3 option both players are in that range in terms of their roles on a true championship team.

See I dont get that. In my opinion thats a BS way of getting out what you've said. Obviously nothing. It is far more obvious to say that what he meant was that Carmelo shouldn't be paid more than that amount. To say he "obviously" meant something else is a mealy-mouthed way of backing away from something once called on it. And, knowing the poster we're talking about here his response would be "you have no way of comprehending my massive subtle intellect here so I won't let you steal from me by even explaining myself. If only you were on my level you would understand".
I have some respect for you Bonn, despite not agreeing with most of what you say. At least you have a basic understanding of how to discourse with others. But the poster I'm responding to gets zero respect. Because he's too dumb to be interested in discourse. God knows why hes here at all.

Oh the irony of being told by you what the adult thing to do is. I apologise. You said 12-13 million. It changes nothing about what I wrote.
Ignored them! They either hate Melo or they they don't want pay him fair value we get it. You guys are just adding fuel to the fire and creating more drama
Ignore them and them and let them start over. It seems the more you want you argue with them the more unreasonable their views become because now they don't just hate Melo but they hate Melo defenders too. Evidence of this is how they lowered melo's worth to $11-13mil. Stop taking the bait and this will be a happier place
They have pretty good knowledge of the game just ignore the constant Melo stuff.

At some point you have to accept you've made your case, and move on to another subject
i for one won't stick around if he is resigned to such a high salary that it leaves the knicks no chance to acquire players who will put him in his place. believe it or not melo will be a good player at the right price, which is around 12-13 million per year. but every dollar above 13 million makes him worse and worse. it's always a balance of price versus value. he didn't understand that and of course he had the perfect accomplice in dolan.
that's why phil jackson being here is so important, assuming he has complete autonomy. he is a smart and persuasive man and he has 13 reasons for people to back that up.
sorry if critiquing a player is boring but you see his game has not evolved in areas that are required to win, and his arrival created so much turmoil that the knicks could never get the right players in place to achieve anything substantial.
yeah my love for the knicks outstrips my hatred for carmelo anthony. the good folks at realgm don't understand such nuances-- do you? as i said-- the reason i no longer posted there was because a global mod-- a gaulieiter with a username of "moocow"-- didn't take kindly to the suggestion that he remove carmelo anthony's nuts from his mouth. so it was personal not philosophical. besides that he was one of the most ignorant basketball posters i have ever encountered in a position of authority. everything he said was wrong. everything he predicted was wrong. you can look it up. he was quite stupid really. he occupied that dangerous territory of middling intellect and power, probably around 118-124 IQ i reckon.

here's a thought experiment: if it is true that i am a troll then why have i not been banned from this forum? are you saying that martin and andrew do not know what they are doing? if they disagree with you-- and apparently they do-- does this mean they are liars or stupid?
seems like everyone you disagree with is a lowlife and a moron.
Why are you avoiding my response? Speaking of accurate, again, read what I bolded and tell me that is not accurate about dk? Then again, "captain-save-a-poster" would never admit anything negative about his distressed damsel....
I didn't see anything int he bold worth addressing. What did you want me to address? Also, if you want me to address your remarks, it might help if you talked like a grown adult. I mean, I was a little harsh but you're above all that name-calling.

Oh and for the studio audience... Knicks just treated the last six games against Nba garbage as tune ups for real challlenge which will begin soon. Phil Jackson will be running the Knicks and building the front office. Melo won player of week and perhaps the biggest hope factor (for me) is when he's not "on rest" Amare is playing like a force of nature. Springs in his legs swatting shots and posting centers in the paint.
I salute mr earl and his words.... "stay tuned"

the thread has been derailed thanks to crushalot's post about my being banned from realgm. such mischief-making and game-playing gives an opportunity for nasty outbursts such as yours, filled with, frankly, breathtakingly pointless defenses of dolan and mills and whoever else that actually deserve your scorn, but instead you try to paint as unfair victims of my contempt. that is an absolute WOW.
so far as all these other posters having knowledge and insight that dwarfs mine, who are these people? i would like to engage with them in a fruitful dialogue so that i may learn.
