Knicks · Would you resign Amare (page 1)

knicks1248 @ 3/17/2014 1:22 PM
For say 2 yr 4 mill, a lesser role off the bench, 20/24 min a night.

I know is health is always a question mark, but he can be that post player in the triangle if no one else is avail.

I have a strong feeling Kerr is going to be the next head coach and he knew amare pretty good. It wasn't like they didn't want amare back when he was the suns GM, just not at a max contract (which made sense)..

He's a veteran high character got that works hard (if nothing else) and a team guy..

I'd have no objections.

Always felt he would return at the MLE when his contract was out given that he wasn't amnestied by the team. He has value at that price point.
fitzfarm @ 3/17/2014 1:56 PM
Yes 100 percent
yellowboy90 @ 3/17/2014 1:56 PM
Being the post player involves passing too and that's something Stat rarely does from the post.
Nalod @ 3/17/2014 2:00 PM
IM not qualified to answer this question.

My instinct is to move on.

At that price he might be inclinded to spend more time at his florida house and chase a title with the Heatles providing they don't break it up.

MSG3 @ 3/17/2014 2:03 PM
Does he have a player option next season or is just a straight final year? Would be highly unlikely but awesome if he opted out and took less to be able to sign other guys. Same with Bargs, although I think it would be more likely for STAT to do that than Bargs.

your right if your a post player that waits for a double team, amare is more of a face up post player, not a back to the basket post player. also he's normally at the receiving end of a PnR so im not sure how many assist you think he's suppose to avg playing that kinda role.

fishmike @ 3/17/2014 2:37 PM
I love stat but I think he eventually becomes another McDyess, has a great end of a career as a bench player for a winner like McD did w/ the Pistons, but simply not the player he once was. I would love to see him that role and be kept in the org, I think he' a warrior and a winner and his body just failed him. Time will tell... cant let sentiment guide your BB decisons
mreinman @ 3/17/2014 4:26 PM
I know he "saved" this franchise but I will pass

though I will miss his boxing out and tough nosed defensive heart.

at that price, no issues, but something tells me he won't sign for that.

franco12 @ 3/17/2014 4:34 PM
I'd love to keep him. The question is the $# he signs for, what is left.

I'm talking 4 mill per, especially if he can stay relatively healthy. he's made well over the 200 mill mark since he came into the league,I don't think money is an object.

thats like saying i wont sign rodam because will miss his beautiful mid range shot and his hakeem like post moves..

You put players in roles that will capitalize on their strengths, not expose their every weakness. Dont forget amare was 2nd in blocks 2 seasons ago, and he's had a few impressive blocks during the streak

MS @ 3/17/2014 5:52 PM
Absolutely no way. He's having a productive stretch and looks good offensively. But unless it's the vet minimum you can't take up a roster spot for multiple years with someone that can't stay healthy.
CrushAlot @ 3/17/2014 5:52 PM
I guess you have to see where he is in a year. Three knee procedures in 12 months is scary especially considering his previous knee issues. He has bounced back nicely so far this year. Would love to have him around but at the right price and probably on a year by year basis.
ToddTT @ 3/17/2014 5:54 PM
If the price is right... definitely.

I hope he feels he owes NY a discount after this contract.

isn't the vet min like 1.4 thats an insult

holfresh @ 3/17/2014 6:42 PM
Just too many variables to say at this point..New GM and more than likely new coach..Style of play has to be considered..Needs have to be addressed..Salary, etc...We might be a very different team before that decision has to be made..

Sorry, I missed your point. I said if the price is right... not the vet min.

What is the right price? I'm not sure. Will depend on our need, and his health after this contract.

Maybe its an insult after this season but would it have been after last season? Also, KMart when healthy is the Knicks best big and he makes the vet minimum.

Stat's contract is done after 14/15 season (he will make $23.5 mil that year). He will be 33 years old during the 15/16 season coming off various injuries including microfracture and back problems. The fact that people are talking about Stat even coming back is a testament to the "now is forever" mentality of being a sports fan based on Stat's very recent run of being able to stay injury free. He is performing well, but still being held back from playing in back to back games. Unfortunately by that time Stat should be a year to year Vet Min guy IMHO. Not so much based on his performance, but there will be too much risk given his injury history and high potential breakdown to signing him for multiple years. Why lock up extra salary cap space?
