Thought the picks were too much but other than that he was our second best scorer and best big when it came to man D. Bargs should be well down the list when it comes to who is responsible for this bad season.
A good coach can make Bargs a good player. He is good in post defense and has a good offense game. But we got robbed when we gave up a pick for him. I like the trade but now with this coach I can say I was wrong.
I hated the deal from the start. It had very little to do with Bargnani's talent, as much as it had to do with the picks that we gave up. Remember that during the offseason, the Raptors were very seriously considering a buyout for him so it was foolish of us to give up value for him. As much as those picks may never materialize into anything, you have to factor in the opportunity cost in trading them. Earlier this season, the Raptors were willing to dump Kyle Lowry for Raymond Felton, Iman Shumpert and the very same picks we gave away on a dud. Imagine how radically different our circumstances would be with a guy like Lowry being our starter!
Its a 2016 pick. I would hope its a low pick!
I see Bargs as able in the Triangle. If so his value to the team might make this a good deal.

There are very few trades that would compel me to give a 1st rd pick. This wasn't one of them. I see absolutely no reason to trade first round picks for all stars, let alone middling to underachieving players. I am skeptical of trading them for superstars. Basketball is as much an economic game as it is an athletic game and cap space is scarce. 1st year contracts provide value upside at inexpensive cost, assuming you draft well. I think that trading those draft picks is an exercise in bad math. Or lack of faith in your drafting capabilities.

Still one more year on his contract, and there were a few points this season that left me...almost hopeful. If nothing else, we got a fun moment with KG out of it.

He's been comic relief at best..That layup to end his season was absolutely classic, i watched that clip a 100 times and still can't figue our wtf he was tring to do. I'm not even going to mention the Bucks games. He has been hilarious and extremely a dissappointment
It was and still is about getting out from this roster in 2015. Considering that nobody would take Felton's contract, which is about the same as Novak's for a much better player, I don't see how Novak could have been dumped outside of this trade.
Personally, I'd consider moving the 2018 pick (protected, of course) if I could get rid of Felton and Smith along with it without taking on future salary.

+1! The Milwaukee Bucks were offering Kyle Korver a $6 million/yr contract that the Hawks matched. One would think that they would have interest in a native with a similar skillset. Who knows, we may not have had to even include the picks for the trade to work.

I mentioned this in a separate post but the Bucks would likely have taken Novak's contract for an expirer. They were grossly overpaying Kyle Korver at $6 million/yr,which leads me to believe that they'd have interest in Steve Novak, a Marquette grad, who has a similar skillset. The Bargnani deal we made seemed to involve no leg work whatsoever. It gives me the impression that we took the very first offer that the Raptors gave us. Remember that the Raptors were talking about amnestying Bargnani during the offseason and we gave up picks for this "talent".
As for Felton and Smith, I honestly think that Billy King would be stupid enough to trade for both (and Kenyon Martin) in a package deal. I think the odds are increased by the fact that Jason Kidd played with these guys and had success with them. All I'd need is Marcus Thorton's expiring deal.

...but the Raptors were rumored to be amnestying him if a deal could not be made. His talent, to me, is irrelevant and was when the deal was made. The question is, why would you pay for something that you could get for free.
On a side, you have to consider the opportunity cost involved in the trading of those picks. They could've been used to trade for someone with actual value like Kyle Lowry, who was available earlier in the year. I do agree with you that Bargnani could be a serviceable backup in the triangle though.

Korver hits a few efficient three's every game...that's about the extent of his ability. I admit, he looks good but that is primarily because they have an excellent coach in Mike Budenholzer who understands his talent and is very good with X's and O's. The same could not be said about Mike Woodson and to a much lesser extent Dwayne Casey. If you were to put Novak on the Hawks, I think he'd provide exactly what Korver does, as efficiently as Korver does.
Was OK with it. Not thrilled, but also not distraught by the trade. No problem with the players we sent. Obviously we could use the picks back. Looks bad now, but It's not over yet. Still another year of Bargs at $12 mil to make something of himself in a Knick Uniform in his contract year (under a new regime, most likely with new offensive/defensive systems under a new coach). Hopefully Phil will try to upgrade his value and be able to get something that can help the Knicks, however small, in return.

Korver is a flame thrower this year and has always moved well without the ball which seperates him from Novak. Chicago was dumb to dump him because they were so cheap. He's like a high volume steve kerr with length to semi guard his position.
I find it ironic that we dumped Novak this season because of his lame performances in previous seasons' playoffs. Abandoning effective regular season shooting pretty much ensured we weren't going to make the playoffs.
