Sounds like you're feenin' for Josh Smith

. Smith doesn't seem like he would be Jackson's kind of guy. Rodman was nuts but he left everything on the floor and was a consumate team player.

LOL, I was specifically thinking of Rodman when I was wondering if Josh Smith had the mental facilities to succeed in the triangle. Am I really off base with this one or are you all "Zach Randolphing" this guy? Just last season, people were talking about Smith being an all-star. I'm not sure if people forgot all of that or if he was being grossly overhyped.
Josh is pretty good when he's being coached properly. That being said, even if we had a legit coach, I'm not sure he's the best fit to play with Melo.

Why not? He's a Swiss Army blade type player, which is exactly what we'd need to offset the other things that Melo doesn't do from the other forward spot. I think most importantly, Josh Smith is a pretty good defender at either the 3 or 4, which allows us to move Melo between both positions advantageously. I'm not really seeing the downside of Smith other than his contract.
Just wrap your minds around this for your New York Knickerbockers....

did you realize how many shots Josh took in the first one to get 30 points? Highlight reels are awesome!
29 SHOTS!
I've seen enough!!!
I had such hopes for this thread, but alas the disclaimer is not to be believed.
Trade Melo.
Get Josh Smith. Who would be great if coached properly. Right.
Notice you didn't rule out abuse of prescription meds, huh?
Josh Smith is nearly as petulant as Jr Smith. Why, oh why, would you want a player who has never conformed to team play?
Hell to the No.
Phil Jackson will bring in men who think team basketball, not just play basketball.

He still shot 47% from the field, which is pretty good. On this team, I doubt he sees nearly as many shot attempts. For one, we wouldn't need him to score and two, the triangle would make him more ball movement conscious. Two of Smith's strongest suits is his ability to move without the ball and still be a major concern for the defense and his excellent passing ability; which would bode well in the system.

Comparing Josh Smith to JR is unfair. Outside of scoring, what has JR ever been known for? Josh Smith, on the other hand, positively impacts the game in every non-scoring statistic. Yes, his shot selection can be poor at times but Josh has never received the Zen treatment. That worked on Dennis "I Like to Rub Elbows With the Most Brutal of Dictators and Then Wonder Why People Are Mad At Me" Rodman. You see Josh Smith being more crazy and less redeemable? He was an all-star candidate just last season, when he had the opportunity to play the 4 and operate closer to the basketball....which is exactly what we'd need him to do!
Josh Smith is not a system type player. Dude has no ball skills.

He currently averages 3.4 assists as a 3 man on a team that can't shoot. How could you come to that determination?
