Seems to me the players were demoralized after seeing the return of ISO-Melo as Cleveland crept closer in the 2nd half. Woodson allowed Melo to put up contested shots after shot. Double-triple team be damned. Clyde made various references to the ball suddenly stopping and how they returned to the style of play that got them in his mess and went completely away from what got them out of it.
The players became convinced that Woodson can't be rehabilitated therefore they are back to giving very little effort. Squeaking into the playoffs is not enough to mask reoccurring underlying issue. They are convinced things will never change under Woodson. No one wants to see ISO ball with Woodson spewing over to next season

This team has a bunch of boneheads. All of them.
JVG ran ISO heavy plays almost every time down. They were a brutal offensive team, yet, they killed it on defense. You think that team allowed opposing teams to travel up and down the lane like a yellow cab on broadway?
I hate Woody but there is too much misplaced blame.
Melo also deserves blame for Cleveland but a good coach should be able to get his star player to buy in to playing team ball especially when the coach will be backed by Phil and the system he implements

Melo has suuuuuuuuucked in the 4th quarter this year. Woody cannot get his players to do anything - its freaky woody! Who the hell listens to his drivel.
People still focused on Offense when defense has been the real culprit. Play good D and keep the lead to prevent the 4th qtr ISO.
i agree with you guns. but i wonder if part of it has to do with the return of fatton?

It comes back to coaching. You are right the initial culprit for the Cleveland collapse was Felton but Woodson continues to stick with Felton when he is getting torched by every NBDL PG Nevermind a talent like Jack. Knicks lost the big lead then the offense went into its usual panic mode. Stand around watching Melo chuck bricks. Nice when they fall but when they don't as a coach you are just going to stand around and watch. No plays for Amare?

More ISO leads to less defensive effort. Felton downright sabotaged this team but the coach stands there watching him get beat every single night with the exception of the occasional 2 games where he is active defnsively after being called out. He then reverts back to being fat and lazy

And, why is Melo so much worse in the 4th? Why does he pass so much less in the 4th? Its because Woodson is an enabler and thats what I will be looking for Phil to change. Phil will not stand for that shit. Move the damn ball in the 4th like you moved it in the 1st.
So often I see Melo getting 2 assists in the first few minutes of the game and he ends off with 3. HOW DO PEOPLE NOT SEE THIS? ESPECIALLY THE COACH!

The reason why Woodson is still around is because he is a good soldier and does everything what Dolan wants him to do. He is a yes man and do not know how to manage time on the clock or manage period.
blaming the owner is silly.
In fact, one could argue the problem under Dolan has been he gave too much control -first to Larry, then, sadly to the disaster named Isiah, and, did so with Walsh until, ironically, the ill advised Melo trade.
As to Woodson, i believe he enables for one reason - he watched MDA try to coach and insist the players run a system, watched Melo rebel, send MDA out, and Woodson (rightly) understood that to buck Melo was to lead to problems

Thank You!!! The Lakers scored 51 in a quarter, shot over 60% for the game and damn-near 70% from three and we still want to talk about offense? Cavs score 61 pts in the second half and shot a ridiculous 77% in the second half. Whenever things go wrong for the Knicks, the first thing most point to is the offense. That is the same mentality as . You win with defense...
The 2 are not mutually exclusive. Bad defense or lack of effort leads to bad offense vice versa
