Okay, but I don't only say negative things about him. He's been carrying the team most of the season. But he does not play smart basketball.
If anything this actually disproves their belief that this board is full of melo worshipers and apologists
no it still is, but add to that list flip floppers as well... and I'm not implying Dagger is...

"carrying the team" what does this mean?
how can a dumb player carry a team? carrying a team to a thirty-ish win season?
maybe he should not have said "i want to test free agency" before the season started... that way he would not have had to "carry the team."

well i didn't clarify but i will now.
"i want to test free agency" translates to: i am not 100% committed to my team
the main issue this season was the lack of spirit and energy.
With play like this I wonder how many teams will really want Melo. Melo was having a bad game and they still gave him the damn ball. Melo needs to decide weather he wants a ring or just be the main guy to score points. He had 9 turnovers. Woody is not creative coach. He was afraid to do anything else but give Melo the ball or he just wanted to expose Melo's short comings.

In addition, the Melo situation in New York will probably resolve itself fairly quickly. He’s a lynchpin to a lot of teams’ plans, and big signings like his don’t tend to languish — we usually know where the player is going by the end of the Moratorium.Apparently a lot of teams are ready to spend their 12 mil on that lousy no good @@@@@@@@@.

You're onto something here- i guess when he heard those comments, JR's knee suddenly stopped healing, and he sought solace in weed leading to his suspension. Melo's words then echoed around New York and shattered Tyson's knee and caused him to play like crap upon his return. The words prevented Amar'e from playing more than ten minutes in the first part of the season, caused Felton to play like trash and seek solace by pulling a gun on his wife.
The statement made Woody worry so much about the future that he lost his mind and found himself unable to make any adjustments. They caused Prigs to decline. They sapped Bargs ability to shoot and rotate on defense. They struck K-mart right in the ankle. At the end of games everyone is so worried about Melo leaving, they do stupid things out of grief.

Leadership from top down including ownership. Firing of Grunwald. Chris Smith signing. Lack of vet players like Kidd, Sheed, KT. Injuries and suspensions (JR, Chander, Amare). CAA inspired trades. Losing games. This ain't that hard.
It seems to me you want to blame the lack of the team's energy on 1 guy's interview that I am sure no other teammate really cared about.
If NY does not make the playoffs or even if they do, the immediate moment after the last buzzer, he should be fired.
What a dunce.

valid points but his comment further contributed to a miasma. he contributes to the cultural problem at msg because he is the face of the team. and you can't be "sure" that his comment did not affect his teammates. it's human nature.

Players in the league are teammates with guys who are newly signed, about to be free agents, openly declared guys who want to be free agents, etc. If you want to march down the path that teammates are affected by the potential moves of other guys on the team, it's a slippery slope and EVERY team will be affected in the same way and it kinda negatives the overall impact of any player on any team.

Melo made 1 comment about being a free agent - liking the idea of being free agent in general, not specifically this coming summer or end of contract - and it was either an obvious comment that he would probably take back or just slip of tongue in an off guard moment. Since then he has reiterated about a million times that he wants to stay in NY, retire a Knicks player, etc.
You are making a number of big assumptions, starting with the fact that other players on team would be affected this year by what Melo would maybe want to do next year or the year after. Heck, why don't we just say that from now on all players that play with Melo will be affected cause eventually he may be a free agent at some time. It's no wonder Dolan has some draconian media policies - it's fanboys who live and breathe by every single non-significant thing that's written nonchalantly in the middle of 1 article and then echo'ed in the chambers of NYPost, NYDaily and other fairly vapid sports "news" journalist articles.

"I signed a contract in 2006 with an option, and it would make no sense for me to sign that contract if I didn't keep my options open," he said. "I'll let you fill in the blanks."
http://offthedribble.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/12/lebron-james-says-hes-done-talking-about-free-agency/LeBron James has declared a moratorium on free-agency questions, a gesture that is arguably overdue and perhaps a little hollow.
For the last year, James has happily entertained the subject, offering answers both vague and playful — always saying just enough to keep the speculation percolating, while never revealing his intentions.
He seemed to enjoy the game, particularly in New York, where the speculation is most intense. A year ago, James glibly suggested that July 1, 2010 would be “one of the biggest days in free-agent history in the N.B.A.’’
These guys all talk about free agency one way or another cause media asks.
