Over/under on Melo's shoulder? Once we max him out does he opt for shoulder surgery?

the good news is that Phil Jackson runs teh show not dolan. Phil jackson has been very frank/objective when it comes to melo so we will see
playa2 @ 4/4/2014 10:09 PM
Maybe this is Melo'S justification to opt out, make sure we don't make the playoffs by playing Bo Bo in the most important game so far.
gunsnewing @ 4/4/2014 10:16 PM
Leeeeeets go Yankeeeeeees!!
gunsnewing @ 4/4/2014 10:38 PM
Anyone still wanna max out this guy at $30mil per? It's pretty obviously he is not comfortable playing in a team oriented system?

He excels when it is all about him. I don't see him playing well in a team oriented system

Anyone care to counter?

Its itronic that Phil Jackson was hired after the trade deadline. I have a feeling Dolan woulndt have gotten Phil before the trade deadline because he knew that Phil would have at least explored trade options for melo

TKF & DK win

The End.

Not sure what the injury has to do with some of their rants.

When Melo declared he was gonna opt early in the season, he gave all his teammates a hint on what the season was all about for him. That's why he went for 62 points to show other teams you got a scorer if you want me.

Dolan countered with paying Phil stupid money to keep Melo on board, but Melo wants to win a ring now and that means he wants to play with other strong personalities where he won't have to do it all and he will respect those other guys to play with them the right way.

What melo hasnt shown is that he has a concept of how to lead a team to wins in his contract year....only how to put up meaningless numbers.

The goal at anything is a positive result....all the Knicks do regardless of how Melo plays is lose.

There's a reason why teams would not even want to "rent" him the last time.

He's an impractical player at the rate he wants.

CrushAlot @ 4/5/2014 12:19 AM
I skipped the post game. I thought during the game they were saying it was his right shoulder. However, he was rubbing his left shoulder, the one he hurt last year.
playa2 @ 4/5/2014 1:37 PM
If you were Melo and you made up your mind that you wanted to leave how would you go about it ?

I think Melo says "I'll leave while the team loses with me leading the way , so I could go elsewhere and nobody could justifying being upset if I left or not". If he left and the knicks were winning they would hate him for it, but if he played and underachieved they would understand him leaving for free agency.

Jeff Vandummy did the exact thing (but expecting the same response) when he left the Knicks. He waited for the team to go on a winning streak , then decided to resign. Not when the team was losing consistently and fans would have crucified him for quitting while on losing streak.

melo is in a no-win situation. he stays he has to wait an entire year before the knicks have a chance to become viable and relevant.

if he leaves he will be reviled for forcing his way here and gutting the team, forcing out a bunch of other people as well, and then leading the team to a very pedestrian record while here.

he has played 223 in a knick uniform. their record during that time is 137-116 which is a stellar .540.

for perspective no .540 team will make the playoffs in the western conference this season and in the east a .540 record would garner you 6th seed here in the east and a 6% chance of winning the title.

not a good legacy to leave behind in nyc.

Most of that has been said about him while he was already here. It's not like people are waiting for him to leave to pounce on him.

well that may be true but we are talking about his legacy, how he will be remembered.

I would think we as fans want Melo to do what's in the best interest of the team and not his legacy
TeamBall @ 4/5/2014 2:29 PM
And to be honest, the whole legacy thing seems to just come down to how much you win. Dirk, Pierce, and Lebron all recovered from negative press after winning titles.

doing what is best for the knicks will only help his legacy. somehow your sentence makes it sound like they are mutually exclusive.

he'd help his legacy a bunch by settling for 14 million per

He'd recover just by winning period. That's the point I was making with those 3 guys. Dirk and Pierce were getting killed for not being good enough and then they won and all that went away. After joining the Heat (and taking less money), Lebron was hated and plenty of people said he killed his legacy by teaming up with 2 stars but his legacy seems to be just fine right now. No matter what Melo does, as long as he wins a title, his legacy is gonna be fine. The only exception I can think of is if he joins the Heat.

If he allows you to arrange his next Knicks contract will that suddenly make his legacy better, his pedestrian results better, and the teammates around him better? Or are you just banking that his evil, inner greed will drive him away?

BK barely accomplished the relatively same "sheehit pedestrian results" in half the amount of games and he's revered in Knicksland as a demi-god.

Spare me the legacy bs.
