Knicks · Can we pawn Tyson on New Orleans? (page 1)
I think it's an idea we need to present before the nba draft. Knicks could use all three players and each one would spark a different rebuild. Jrue holiday obvious upgrades us at pg. Evans gives us a potential 2nd scorer for melo, Eric Gordon does the same

I don't like that idea at all. We do need to get rid of Tyson by why exchange one headache for another? I'm the kind of guy that believes in reformation projects but only when the guy we're getting does something e.g. Josh Smith is an elite shot blocker and defender at the forward spots and was among the league leaders in efficiency around the basket. What do Eric Gordon or Tyreke Evans do at an elite level? I can't think of anything. Then to top things off, neither guy is a model for consistency or good health. I'd pass on both guys. The only way I'd even consider it is if I could trade my bad contracts (JR and Felton). Other than that, I'm not giving up value. After all, if these guys were so good, why would the Pelicans be looking to trade them?
Jrue Reminds me alot of Derek Harper. I think his playing style would fit a system coach and if the triangle does come he would be great in it
EnySpree wrote:Jrue Holiday struggled playing in new Orleans. There's a chance they might be looking to get out of his contract. He was hurt most of the year as well. He actually had a season ending Injury. Tyson would be an expiring deal so it's possible a deal could happen. Holiday is a big scoring point guard. That might appeal to phil.Jrue Reminds me alot of Derek Harper. I think his playing style would fit a system coach and if the triangle does come he would be great in it
They gave up two lottery picks for Jrue Holiday. If for no other reason than PR and staying in the good graces of ownership, they will make sure to take a longer look at Holiday. He deserves as much considering his success in recent years. I agree though that Jrue would be great in the triangle but we won't be getting him unless we come proper (Melo) and I'm not prepared to do that.

I continue to like the idea -- although, Tyreke Evans has played much better the last 15-20 games or so since being inserted into a starting role. There was a point where they were probably fielding offers up to the deadline. Rumor had it that he was available. That may no longer be the case -- Evans has played much better of late. They may want to keep this guy now.
I'd love to pawn Chandler off on these guys -- I just don't know why anyone would want him. I think he's a guy that was in the right situation at the right time in Dallas when they won it all. We turned around and made him a very rich man off that championship. He's done some good things here from time to time but in the end of the day, there's one word that continually comes to mind whenever I think of this guy -- overrated. But he is an expiring contract, and those types of players always have value...Maybe this idea could be explored with New Orleans. On the Chandler for Evans aspect alone, it would save them millions of dollars in cap space. And it would give them an experienced, well-thought-of big man to play alongside and mentor Anthony Davis. If I'm Phil, that's how I'd sell it to Demps...As far as the Pel's assets go, I'm interested in the following: Tyreke Evans, Luke Babbitt, Alexis Ajinca, the rights to Pierre Jackson and their 2nd round pick (currently hovering around 40). I wouldn't be against including Shumpert or THJ in this deal as well if it turned out to be worth our while (bringing back all 5 of those assets for instance). Just my opinion and I know I'm in the minority here but I'm not married to either Shumpert or Hardaway Jr. If I chose to deal either guy to improve the roster, I'd know going in that I could instantly replace either player with one of the following and not lose much of anything:
BJ Young - Not sure why this guy never got proper PT while with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers in the DL. He barely played there -- then got traded to the Delaware 87ers and over the last 10 games of the season or so, he played more and played well. Practically became a point a minute guy...That's this kid's game -- he's a very good offensive player...Not sure what his status is going into next year, if he'll play for Delaware next season or what. Bottom line is this kid's one of the highest upside players in the entire NBDL bar none...I'd definitely invite Young to SL and then if he didn't make the NBA roster, I'd guarantee him a spot on our new Westchester DL team and develop him to the fullest. Huge offensive potential. Could be something close to Monta Ellis - might even be able to play some PG. Super intriguing young talent here.
Terrence Williams - always had talent and it didn't go anywhere. Continued to show it this year in the DL. Had some standout performances, including a 50-pt game back in January. Love the whole package -- the size (6'6" 220), the strength, the passing ability, the ability to play defense, the underrated scoring prowess. Always been a fan.
Patrick Christopher - I think this guy does everything well and could be a nice well-rounded NBA 2G. I can see him doing everything THJ can do.
Glen Rice Jr. - does Washington retain this guy? If not, I'm interested on a minimum deal.
--------------------
As I write this, really thinking it through -- Shumpert, even though he played terribly this year, may have more ultimate value than THJ as a player. If we could ever get Iman straightened out, I think his game and what he brings may serve us better in the long run than a guy that very well may not be nothing more than a volume 3-pt shooter who plays little defense, doesn't show the best B-Ball acumen and has a real shaky handle. Hate to rain on Timmy's parade---he's had a very nice rookie year---but come next year, people are gonna expect a lot more...Just a reality check -- THJ could be a guy that could go south awful quick here. Not trying to trash the kid, I like him, just trying to keep a realistic perspective. We very well may want Shump's defense around over anything THJ provides eventually. Regarding Young, Christopher, Williams, Rice Jr. -- really ask yourselves: is Hardaway really that much of a better talent than any of these guys? Think with your heads, not you hearts before answering...All of these guys can shoot it as well as THJ as well as finish at the rim and playing well in transition. I'd argue these guys bring even more to the table...THJ will continue to get better but how much better? Ray Allen better? I've heard that and don't see that at all. Sorry fellas... Shumpert on the other hand, has the potential to be that Bruce Bowen/Thabo Sefolosha shutdown-type, a guy that can come in and be a defensive stopper. When you think about building an eventual championship-caliber unit, a player like that is paramount. A real luxury..Just saying...The wisest move of all might be to switch gears and dangle THJ this off-season instead, a man with much better current trade value over Shumpert at this point anyway, sell high on THJ, replace him with a capable low-salary equivalent component, keep Shumpert and build him up to the defensive stopper/3-pt shooter/better finisher at the rim he eventually could be.
Also, in what way can Chandler "Mentor" Anthony Davis?? No offense but I found that a bit funny.

It's perceived Chandler leadership that everyone seems to think Tyson provides. outside of Davis N.O.'s roster sucks. Ryan Anderson would have been nice but he had a bad injury

good coaching and bad luck this year.
AD is a superstar in the making.

Bingo. Chandler, even though I've been disappointed in him for the most part, has value. Former NBA champion, former Olympian, former defensive POY, former all-star.. Gotta believe there's still some value here, esp. on an expiring contract.

He has value as a bench player that can possibly give some inspired minutes.
All the accolades you mentioned were for the most part were undeserved. He was the worst DPOY pick ever - HE DID NOT EVEN MAKE THE ALL DEFENSE TEAM. He was useless in the olympics, Coach K was smarter than that. NBA champ, he contributed - thats all he gets credit for.

What I posted had nothing to do with his efficiency. He is efficient, most guys who only dunk are efficient.

I know what you are saying most or a lot of centers are as efficient as Tyson if you look at their at the rim %. on top of that its really hard to increase Tyson touches because his lack of other offensive skills. I could see if he was a good passer but he rarely does that and he isn't that great at recognizing offensive situations. You literally have to point and tell him to flash to the high post to create better passing angles for his teammates.

How is he the most undeserved when the team was ranked as a top 5 defensive team with D'antoni doing the majority of the coaching that season and were close to the bottom the year before? tyson and Shumpert might have been the only two even playing anything resembling defense that year.
And for the record he did make the defensive team, he was on the 2nd team which was done by an entirely different panel of voters.
Folks tend to praise Marc Gasol for his defense and he won DPOY, but unlike Chandler, Gasol has arguably the best tandem of defensive guards the NBA had had in a long time in Conley and Tony Allen and one of the best rebounders in Z-Bo, while Chandler had a hobbled bad back Amare who could barely jump.
Wont even comment about the olympics, irrelevant to the nba court.

All defense first team (c'mon, you know what I meant). The DPOY should probably have made the first team.
How can a guy win DPOY when he can't even guard most players in the league without needing a double team? It was so wrong on so many levels. Guy is a good player on the right team.
I don't think Gasol should have won it either.
I hope a well deserving candidate like Noah earns it this year.
