Only if Kerr bombs and that's a great prospect to fall back on. Phil could coach the rest of the year and then hire or promote a new.
I think it's important to remember that Phil got a 5yr deal and we shouldn't be expecting to contend for a championship in year 1
I think Phil gets destroyed in this town if he promotes two non experienced guy to run the triangle here..
I am not convinced that he will actually run the traditional triangle. Analytic's have come a long way since he coached and I hope he will use all the data and not just stay old school.
Analytics?..In what sense?..How has it affected today's coaching?
You don't think that Analytics has changed the style of many offenses? Pretty much every team have analytics people that report on every percentage and advantage. This is not new.
Houston
Dallas
Portland
NJ
Just to name a few ...
Many teams are taking fewer long 2's and rely heavily on shot charts and point value.
No, I disagree but how many if those teams have won anything for Phil to think his style of coaching has gone by the wayside?..I'll say it's a copycat league tho..
It certainly is. That is what Marc Cuban said ... don't get left behind.
And, Dallas has won with the assistance of analytics.
Winning is not everything, its how you play based on your talent level.
Atlanta is freakin Indiana out with all their highly efficient threes. Listen to Paul G's press conference from yesterday, they don't seem prepared for so much ball movement and 3's. They can't keep up.
Either way, I don't believe in just chucking up threes. Analytic teams should provide teams with data that shows where they are getting the most value.
You can chuck 3s if analytics help you build an efficient shooting roster. But even then you risk the team going cold for weeks at a time the what? You have to find other ways to win. Shots come and go. Defense and fundamentals are forever

I disagree yet again...The game has changed in that it is now a guard/wing player oriented league as opposed to a big man league..How are guards going to get free other than the pick and roll..The league has also change by disallowing defenders from hand checking perimeter players ..That's huge for a guy like Curry..That was part of the reason Jordan had to get stronger..
But if your premise was correct, OKC, a much more talented should be destroying Memphis..Memphis will probably win that series..Look at Washington..Pacers have been in a full collapse mode that last month..
Miami is proving you wrong as well..If that's what you believe then that's what you believe..I don't see it that way..This could very well be a Memphis/LAC WCF and Miami/Washington ECF with none of the teams playing the style you think has taken over the NBA..

I'm refuting your claim that Analytics is the wave of the future in coaching the game and the teams that play this way are more successful...And I think u also insinuated that Phil's style of coaching may have been passed by given today's Analytics..
Analytics is here and here to stay. It does not replace coaches and scouts, it equips them to make better decisions with personnel.
Phils style is not passed (I did not say that). Many more advances have been made since Phil last coach and I hope he uses this info to to assist him in getting the right players. And, that he should be using shot charts to determine which shots are giving them the most value. He should also looking to see how each player performs in each lineup (what Dr Wayne Wiston supplied to the Knicks last year).
Here is a very fair and balanced take:

This is what you said and I thought it was referring to his coaching...
I am not convinced that he will actually run the traditional triangle. Analytic's have come a long way since he coached and I hope he will use all the data and not just stay old school.

Yes. He may run the triangle and he may not. He will set forth a system of lots of ball movement and quick decisions. It does not seem set in stone as of yet exactly which system will be put into place and if it will be a hybrid.
I hope that he will have an analytical staff that help get the most production out of the players and the kinds of shots that they take.
Ball movement and quick decisions are not a new phenomena..Neither is shot selection..
holfresh wrote:Ball movement and quick decisions are not a new phenomena..Neither is shot selection..
Did you read that article that I posted above? Shot selection has certainly changed with the new "phenomena"

It's crazy that those questions can be even asked as we watch Memphis Grizzlies playing ancient basketball, having OKC on the ropes...Memphis isn't even a great passing team...Did u ever see the Boston Celtics play with Larry Bird, DJ, and Ainge??..Would the author ask such a silly question about them??..Did you ever see the Lakers, Showtime, play??
