Now, I believe Kobe has the right to say and think whatever he wants. But to suggest that the root of Martin outrage simply stemmed from the fact that it involved a black youth is naive.
Handled poorly, no doubt. May have ultimately affected the outcome. I would think that Kobe is talking about pressure he may feel in having to remark on the case. Why care what some guy whose really good at a ball game has to think about it, just because he is a prominent black athlete? Are people waiting to hear what Dirk has to say about it? I think that's what his point is — but that's my conjecture. People were saying a lot of stuff about the case, then they find out more details like Zimmerman was Latino and some people's storylines no longer fit so cleanly. It was more a issue with vigilantism and due process, but the crux of the animus was that it was done to an unarmed black youth perceived to be a threat because of his appearance, race being a part of that.
Exactly good post and why was Martin perceived this way?
It's the negative perspective forced down peoples throat primarily through media and music imo
Music is cultural. Is the white man painting a negative picture of black culture through music?
I don't buy that.
Maybe not but a lot of media execs and sponsors are white

If you reverse things and Donald sterling is an African amercan saying the exact same things about white people. There would be an outcry but it would last a few days and be forgotten and he would never lose the team
These are the things that go on inside Kobe's head. Not popular but is realistic to him
I highly doubt that Fox News or talk radio would let something like that go. Or did we already forget how they got Shirley Sherrod fired for talking about how she wasn't racist? How about Martin Bashir? How about silencing Melissa Harris-Perry over comments her guest made?
DrAlphaeus wrote:I also agree with Kobe here. My main issue with the Trayvon case was the authorities' delay in arresting George Zimmerman. The court case happened, and I may not agree with the verdict, I wasn't on the jury so personally I didn't get too up in arms (proverbially) about it as a cause célèbre. A lot of the protest symbolism of a hoodie on your profile pic or changing your Facebook profile name seemed a little superficial to me. As was Jim Brown's criticism of Kobe being not in touch because he was partially raised in Italy. Remember, Kobe was the defendant in a high profile case himself! His point of view may reflect that, rightfully so: he'll leave the judging to the jury and comment if needed once the facts are in, not on emotion.
The arrest was out of public outrage and in hindsight the case was pursued because of it. In the end they did not have enough to convict so the D.A. might have been to correct in his delay for good reason.
Im not going to argue the outcome or not. The Florida Law is phuched up.
I'd say Kobe statements has some elements of truth. The Miami Heat posted pictures in Hoodies and while its ok to express yourself I thought doing it thru the team was wrong. The nature of sponserships brings in a complexity. Im saying Lebron or any other player shoudl be denied their right to express a view. They have their own forum for it.

Many are jewish though I don't believe into the conspiracy as a whole. Obviously, fox news aside.

The florida law was simple self-defense, which is in every state's laws. Stand your ground was inapplicable here and wasn't argued by the defense. The jury bought that this was a self-defense case, which was evident from the get-go.
If this was such an obvious murder why did the media have to edit the 911 calls? Why did the media have to edit the photographs of Zimmerman bleeding? Why did the media use baby pictures of Trayvon? Why did the media invent a new race, "WHITE hispanic" to describe Zimmerman?
It was a three ring circus, and as big of an embarrassment as another "gotcha" gone bad...Duke Lax.
I just think we found our new playa2

Ah, hive mind ridicule. Saul Alinsky would be proud. Just my $0.02 as a former DA and practicing litigator.

Playa was rooted in fiction. When he bought in the Aliens, he was cooked.
This new dude is got his views and the energy to have at it. Seems like he has his own words, well constructed and prepared.
Lawyers are excellent writers! You guys have your work cut out.

Saul Alinsky? You mean the guy who supported initiatives to build wealth, infrastructure and equal rights for all Americans? I could see how something like that could be troubling for you.

Former DA and practicing litigator and you sited the most god awful, dumbest townhall.com article about 35k double voting in NC? Awful.
Care to address this blatant mistake or just let it hang?

You are not going to let that go, lol. Are you a lawyer?

Sloppy work should be corrected. Sloppy work from a former DA and practicing litigator is apparently run-and-hide embarrassing.

No arguments here on that front.
