Why do people continue to sell alcohol/drugs to people who look in as bad a ways as Steve Francis? How do they sleep at night.
BigDaddyG @ 5/7/2014 1:44 PM

Its a tale told many times. Even marbury defined himself by his max contract. Go most of your life in the limelight and paid millions and one day its over. Very tough to attain the position he had and even tougher to transition smoothly to other lifes interests.

There are some great stories of players using their career to a springboard to another, and sadly there are many who don't and fade into depression.

I think people also assume that just because someone's given tens of millions of dollars, it wipes away all of their lifelong issues or problems. In fact it can actually be worse for them because they have a lot more money and temptations to harm themselves with, plus it can cut them off from their old support systems (family, friends, old work collegues/teammates, routines, etc).

I know everyone always points to the money they made, but I think it must be hard going from getting praise and adulation from thousands of people, to suddenly being irrelevant and unable to do what you had dedicated your life to. Must feel like a huge void at the age of 34-36.

Where is the support system for players like him? Where is the brotherhood?

Hearing Duran't speech yesterday and how he cared for each and every teammate, I wonder what he would do if one of "his guys" needed love and support to save them from this collapse.

We build these guys into narcissists and then we crush them.

I was confused there as the first thing I saw was a woman holding her breasts.

JesseDark @ 5/7/2014 3:26 PM
Isn't there another video of Francis either fighting or being asked to leave a club? I thought this was that video until I heard the music, which is current.
Gotta give props to Marbury for how he is today. Got a paor of his sneaks in the closet.

Dude, he's a multi-millionaire. He could've checked himself into a rehab facility, gotten top-notch psychiatric help or something of the sort. I feel bad for the people who have the same problems he does, without the means to fix them. I don't feel sorry for him.

As for brotherhood, doesn't the NBAPA offer services/help for former players?

Having money and being an addict does not mean that now you have the money to check yourself into Bette Ford, so just do it.

Yeah, because all you really need to fix an addiction is enough cash.

I feel sorry for you, Nard.

Are you disputing that socioeconomic status does not play a role in access to quality healthcare and in healthcare outcomes?

I feel sorry for you, Nard.

I don't need your sympathy. I'm not sure why my comments are so objectionable. Do you want me to start citing studies that establish a positive correlation between healthcare outcomes and SES?
