Isola and Beck tweeting this- no deal signed but it appears he has agreed to be the next Knick coach

Beck:

Derek Fisher has decided to accept the Knicks' head coaching position, per source.

A deal between Fisher and the Knicks is not yet final, but it's expected soon.

Isola:

A person close to the Derek Fisher negotiations tells me that the Knicks are moving toward an agreement. No word yet from the Knicks.

*toast finally!

Time to establish a winning culture

nixluva @ 6/9/2014 4:59 PM
Hope this is true so we can get on with the new era of Knicks BB. Been waiting 40 years for this team to win a title and I hope I can see one in the next 5 years. I can't wait to see what Phil does with this team.

Exactly!

I like Fisher more than Kerr- comes across as intelligent and charismatic and at least Fisher has leadership experience- plus he's not afraid to challenge the big name players and get in their face, not sure if Kerr had the presence to do that. it's a risky move but I hope the gamble pays off

I just want to see a professional culture established- players who play hard and compete- no more of this lazy, minimum effort, wilting under the pressure crap!

the fact that Fish and PJax seemingly have great relationships with Dolan is welcomed and refreshing

I dont mind the move. Fisher is obviously knowledgeable and has been a part of winning teams and he knows Phil as good as anyone. However he hasnt coached before so i hope he makes teh transition well
gunsnewing @ 6/9/2014 5:06 PM

Fisher has guts- was the first person to stand up to Billy Hunter and challenge his decades of corruption.

Wojnarowski now tweeting it could be finalised today!

Old Man Fisher
BigDaddyG @ 6/9/2014 5:12 PM
Yeah I'll wait until the contract is signed before I celebrate.
knickscity @ 6/9/2014 5:12 PM
Loving it. Seal the deal Phil.
Uptown @ 6/9/2014 5:13 PM
Great news!!! Fish Smells of Leadership...The fact that he led the players union and the respect he has garnered from star players who has played with should make us Knick fans feel very optimistic. Not to mention, Phil will be with him every step of the way....Can't wait!!!

nyk4ever @ 6/9/2014 5:22 PM

yellowboy90 @ 6/9/2014 5:26 PM
DId Fisher ever make 5 mil as a player? Good for him. I am not enthused about this hire. It is what it is. I'll just keep an open mind as he makes the transition to coach.
TeamBall @ 6/9/2014 5:26 PM
Fisher's assistants are gonna be most important

Yup now you bring in The Cleamons, Rambis cartwrights, Walton and harpers

holfresh @ 6/9/2014 5:31 PM
I think I would have more of an open mind about the hire if Phil had more of an open mind on who he interviewed..
