Fisher never directed any offense. It's what made him perfect for the triangle. As far as their basketball skills go, Kerr and Fisher are both scrubs but pretty smart. But when it comes to leading men, I agree with you, Fisher is the better bet.
The Triangle doesn't require a ball dominant PG but that doesn't mean Fisher doesn't have a great mind for the Triangle offense and BB in general. We need to finally rid ourselves of the type of BB we know and have grown accustomed to. The Triangle is completely different in it's focus. It is more like other Motion offenses in that it's not about a single guard reading a defense or breaking a defense down. Instead we will need multiple players who can pass and cut and think the game enough to understand what to do in order to counter whatever the defense does. Those moves are predetermined and that's what makes it so good for a team without a great PG.
Fisher is a leader of men and that's going to be HUGE!!! They say he gave the best speeches at halftime and was a big voice in the locker room. With him and Phil working together I feel this is the strongest leadership we've had from the top down to the court in a long time.
I don't think I ever heard any player say anything negative about Fish
When you got two of the best players in the league (kobe and KD) praising his leadership, and an 11 time championship president (of the NYK) pursuing you, your credibility is up there.
We don't really get to see fisher behind close curtains, but with the kind of people vouching for him, I would think this is a very solid move.
I feel better about him, then I do about MDA without a PG, or Woodson without kidd and Rasheed..

IMO this is a good thing. Does't guarantee a title, but it's lightyears better than the crap we just endured since 1999.

Were there expectations with JVG? Did the players voice their support? The media? I was following intently at the time. Wonder what the general reception was for JVG initially. I guess anything was better than what Don Nelson was trying to accomplish

I don't think I would have an issue if Phil spoke to a full compliment of coaches and came out with a rookie head coach..He only spoke to people he knew...No Mark Jackson??..No Hollins...No Fred Hioberg??..Shaka Smart??..John Thompson Jr??..Billy Donovan, although he won't leave...Guys who have really done it..It's not only about X's and O's...Doc Rivers was an all motivational coach in Orlando and learned the X's and O's in Boston...Mark Jax could have done the same under Phil...I think a really good coach needs to be motivational as well...None of Phil disciples panned out, anywhere...Even JVG has a coaching tree...Let's see if Kerr runs the triangle in GS...

I have to agree Fisher has great presence and speeches. When I saw him at the Staple Center on the floor with the Lakers, he always seems to be the player to talk to if the team is in trouble. Can he coach? I don't know, but I'm sure Phil is more than happy to coach him periodically or even give him after school sessions..

I have no idea how it all translates but he has a 5 year contract as were Kerr to have. THis is not about next year, its about progress. Mistakes will be made, bad adjustments will happen. Its NY, y'all be cool!
Holfresh, I think you're greatly underestimating Phil's thinking on this. He already knows none of those coaches are that great. He wants to take a guy who has a certain mentality already and give him all of his wisdom over the course of the next few years. It's the same thing Riley did. You get a guy who has the right qualities as a man and a leader and you develop him from there. Fish played under Phil for NINE YEARS and 5 titles!!!
