I thought we could still do sign and trades, we just had less leeway in getting the salaries to match? This new cba is such a head f***!
Wouldn't we not be over the cap if we traded melo??Even if we took back $0 salary in any Melo deal our cap number would still be $77M, about $13M over the projected cap for next year.
Well we're on $91mil, then minus $23.5mil if Melo opts out, that brings us down to $67.5mil. The luxury tax is $71.7mil, and the aron is $4mil over that, I just don't get if you're allowed to go over the apron to do a S&T, or whether it's just the starting point that matters.
Either way, I'm not a fan of Parsons.
It's not the starting point that matters it's where our cap number ends up after the S&T. So if we're doing a S&T with Melo for Parsons the most we could take back and stay under the apron is around $14M.
Nuts!- but then again, we're assuming Tyson stays on the team- maybe we can trade him and just get a pick back, which knocks off a further $15mil

And I would love every second of it plus I'd love to see Lin,jr,shump, amare, brags with Timmy 6th, hoping we trade Tyson for draft picks screw that duche as well. In a rebuild year not bad
I'm not exactly sure how a lot of this stuff works but does Houston have to do a sign and trade with us? Can't Melo just walk and we get nothing?

I think they have to move Asik and Lin to clear up the cap space (I think they count for $8mil each)

Also, just remembered, I think the luxury tax is projected to go up to $77mil next season. However this also makes it easier for Houston to get under the cap and sign him outright. Salary cap will be $63mil.

+1 on all points. If they will include Parsons, great but it would be only so we could trade him. He's a nice player but he's about to be badly overpaid.
Melo for Lin, Parsons, 2 first round picks (which would prob be around 25 to 30), and returning our 2 second round picks (2014, 2015) would be reasonable. Those second round picks might be around 35. I'd love to get more but don't see it happening.I'd rather have Asik than Lin- not sure if Lin would suit the triangle, plus I think you could actually move Asik on and get a pick or something.

I think Lin is the perfect PG for the triangle- you need to be smart.
Look what he did in the last system he ran in!
I bet if we swap Melo for Lin & filler - we end up with a better record next year than this past season.

Everything's not staying the same though. With Phil here, we seem to have competent management and Fisher is looking to install a system unlike Woodson.

Hmm... Salary cap is due to be about $63mil. Hoopshype has the Rockets salary commitments as around $71mil, but they've made a mistake with Asik and Lin (counting them as $14mil each instead of $8mil), so deduct $12mil from that figure, leaving them on $59mil. They have to move both Lin and Asik, and even then I don't think they'd be able to offer a max, unless I'm missing something?

How can you be so sure Lin is perfect for the triangle? There are some p&r sets, but he's not really a knockdown shooter. The triangle really isn't
he best fit for his game. That's not to say Fisher won't make some tweaks and add more p&rs, but it's too early to tell either way.

I agree- the good thing about the triangle is that we no longer need a great, creative, passing PG, so we can focus on other qualities i.e. a defensive PG who can knock down threes- Lin isn't really either of those things. I can't go through another season watching opposing PG's abuse us at will!

Maybe Melo takes a little less? I don't know. Those comments have to come back to bite him eventually.

Derek fisher and Jason Kidd were worst 3pt shooters than Lin at that point in their careers. Guys do improve. Especially in a good system
Lin shot 36%. Getting to 38-40% won't be all that hard

Where are we going to find a pg who can consistently hit a mig range jumpshot?

Kidd was, not Fisher. Fisher was always a solid three point shooter for the most part. He shot 38 percent in his second season, the first season he got real minutes. Kidd was a bad shooter early on, but you're talking about one of the best passers in the history of the game. Both Fisher and Kidd were much better defenders than Lin to boot.
