Knicks · Melo said to be researching life in Chicago.... (page 3)

If we were to look at the facts as presented...Melo came here to play with Amare..If Amare was healthy and we had a decent coach not named MDA, we had a shot...We went through all this already...Was Gallo and Mozgov all that good, really??..We came to the conclusion that Wilson could not be resigned if we signed Melo as a free agent...JR was as productive as Gallo the last two years, no??Look at their stats...So are we really talking Mozgov doomed us, really??? We were poorly constructed under a poor coach and GM...We were doomed the moment we sign MDA who need Amare...
If Melo leaves then there is no way the trade can be anything but bad. We gave up assets we should not have had to give up. Those assets could have helped build around Melo. The amount of mistakes the Knicks have made were also staggering. I knew what Woody was about after watching him coach in his first playoffs with us. How did those rich people not see the Woody's limitations in coaching? Who the hell thought the Bargs trade was a good one? Who the heck signs Amare to that kind of deal? Who opts in Billups only to cut him a few weeks later with the Amnesty! This team is never anything but frustrating.
Please specify what assets u are referring to...People use this term to hide the facts when presenting their slanted arguments...So Gallo and Melo could have overcame Amare's knee problems??..If we re-uped Gallo at 12 mil per then we have no Tyson...Who is defending the paint on MDA's team???..Are u saying that Gallo would have given us better production than JR?? The stats says otherwise...

Gallo
Kostas Papanikolaou : Used to reaquire Felton
Giorgos Printezis : Used to reaquire Felton
2016 Second Round Draft Pick : used to require Felton
Cash: Used to require Felton(Could no longer use that money to buy a draft pick in following draft due to new CBA)
Mozgov: With Mozgov we don't make that Camby trade and lose more assets.
2014 First Round Draft Pick
2 Second Round Draft Picks
Right to Swap 2016 First Round Draft Pick
Amnesty: If we don't have Billups we would still have the Amnesty to use on Amare. If you think those assets are insignificant then we will never agree on that issue. We could have had melo and all of these assets.
Can't just say "Gallo vs Mello", or that wilson don't matter, or Moz, or this years pick, or what ever.
Bottom line is melo walks and if we don't get good value in return, the trade was a disaster. Assigning blame is pointless. Franchise is going in a different position now. Bad luck? Injuries? It happens. Also happens to franchises stressed out such as ours. Having to employ idiot talent such as JR. Its done.
Melo not gone just yet.

Ujiri wasn't going to let Melo walk and there were other suitors waiting to get him. Also, with the owners telling the players there would be a lockout and free agency was going to be changed Melo was getting a new deal. Expecting Ujiri and the Nuggets to get nothing for Melo so that he can leave and go where he wants wasn't going to happen. Expecting Melo to lose 20 mil or more so that he could wait and sign with the Knicks wasn't going to happen.

There is a reason they are called assets. They would be used to get the immediate impact player you speak of. Don't even try to say those assets won't be enough to get an immediate impact player since they were used to get one in Melo himself. Like I said earlier the Knicks made dumb decisions. I actually listed the Billups situation as one of them. Without the Melo trade we have no Billups, which means the Knicks don't even have the option to make a dumb mistake like that.

Ujiri could have sent him to whatever team he wanted to. Melo could have still signed with us as a FA. The difference is that Lebron, Bosh and Wade new that to have a good team you wiould have to sacrifice some money. They were willing to do that and Melo was not. The spurs big 3 all took less money for the same reason. Melo wants to have his cake and eat it to. He wants the good team without making a sacrifice for it. I am sorry but the world does not work that way. The Heat and the Spurs are living proof of this fact.

That's because Melo requested a trade TO THE KNICKS. They had to take what we or NJ (yes, because of Melo) had. If the Knicks approached them with that same package without Melo saying he wanted NY, they probably don't even entertain the idea.

No disrespect but this is a lame argument...You have provide not one player to build around Melo if the trade wasn't done and somehow we are to project future players as impact players based of what??..Not to mention Melo forced the trade in the first place which now created our so call "assets"...

Mozgov: With Mozgov we don't make that Camby trade and lose more assets.

Amnesty: If we don't have Billups we would still have the Amnesty to use on Amare. If you think those assets are insignificant then we will never agree on that issue. We could have had melo and all of these assets.
So in other words..No one to speak of that could have been any immediate help to Melo..The Melo trade didn't cause the GM to resign Billups when he could have let him walk and Amnesty Amare anyway which to be honest I was against at the time...
That's because Melo requested a trade TO THE KNICKS. They had to take what we or NJ (yes, because of Melo) had. If the Knicks approached them with that same package without Melo saying he wanted NY, they probably don't even entertain the idea.
I am very glad you said that. Lets look at what the Clippers gave up for Chris Paul.

Do you not think New Orleans would have preferred to get what we gave up for Melo instead of what they got from the Clippers? Chris Paul wanted to come to New York to play with Melo until it was obvious we no longer had the assets to get the trade done. Did we forget the infamous toast already? I think it would be safe to say if we did not blow our wad on Melo then Paul would have requested a trade to NY.

I don't really see how this effects what I said. My argument is that the Nuggets had to be in talks with us because Melo specifically said he wanted NY and he had the signing of the extension working in his favor. The Nuggets weren't exactly reaching out to us for Felton, Galinari, and the others.

The way it connects to what you said is because New Orleans would have been in the same position as Denver. The reason why Paul no longer wanted to join the Knicks is because we had no assets left to actually get the trade done after giving them all away for melo. Did you forget the moves to get Tyson only happened after Paul/New Orleans let it be known that The knicks did not have the assets to get the trade done? Well, you definitely forgot Chris Paul denied all rumors.....
But two league sources confirmed after the story broke that Paul’s agent, Leon Rose, never made the request to the Hornets.
"It is just rumors; you can’t control it,’’ Paul said. “It’s always going to happen, and it’s part of the game. I’m just happy to be back with my team.’’
http://www.nola.com/hornets/index.ssf/20...
But when did Chris Paul state the Knicks couldnt get a trade done because of assets...the Hornets didnt say that either.
What the Hornets (Dell Demps) did do was list a criteria they wanted, but ironically agreed to trade CP3 to the Lakers, who provide NOTHING they wanted, and I'm sure Lamar Odom was not a coveted player. it was the Rockets who in exchange for Pau was willing to give NO everything they desired.....Kevin Martin, Luis Scola, Goran Dragic plus a 1st and 2nd rounder.

It seems the bold is where our disagreement is mostly coming from. You seem to think that the reason that Paul recinded his trade request to the Knicks is because we would be depleted. In actuality the reason was because we did not have the assets left after the Melo trade to trade for Chris Paul.
This is a part of an article from that time period.
Initially, the team was believed to covet New Orleans point guard Chris Paul. But when it became clear that they did not have the trade chips to make a deal for Paul, they turned their attention to Chandler.

I think he also made a BIG mistake not taking Lowry for Felton and a 2018 pick. This is all on Dolan head to toe.
Assets are: Not going to count Wilson since he would be gone anyway.
So in other words..No one to speak of that could have been any immediate help to Melo..The Melo trade didn't cause the GM to resign Billups when he could have let him walk and Amnesty Amare anyway which to be honest I was against at the time...
That's because Melo requested a trade TO THE KNICKS. They had to take what we or NJ (yes, because of Melo) had. If the Knicks approached them with that same package without Melo saying he wanted NY, they probably don't even entertain the idea.I am very glad you said that. Lets look at what the Clippers gave up for Chris Paul.
Eric Gordon
CHris Kaman
Aminu
1 first Round draft pick.Do you not think New Orleans would have preferred to get what we gave up for Melo instead of what they got from the Clippers?
The reason we kept Billups is because they thought they could trade him to New Orleans in a deal for Chris Paul. We needed the Salary Billups had to match up contracts in a potential sign and trade. I can not be the only one who did not forget the events that happened that summer right?
Well, you definitely forgot Chris Paul denied all rumors.....But two league sources confirmed after the story broke that Paul’s agent, Leon Rose, never made the request to the Hornets.
You mean Chris Paul denied the rumors like Melo also denied the rumors? The only difference is that in one situation we had the assets to trade and in the other situation we did not.

You do count Felton because if we never traded him in the Melo trade we would not have had to reaquire him. If Melo comes here as a free agent then we keep those assets to use to build the roster instead of using it to get back what we already had and gave away.
Expecting Melo to lose 20 mil or more so that he could wait and sign with the Knicks wasn't going to happen.Ujiri could have sent him to whatever team he wanted to.
Melo would have lost 20 million if he did that. Also he wanted a new deal under the old cba. The owners were making a lot of noise about how things were going to change after the big three clouded. It's a nice thought where everyone sacrifices except the Knicks and the knicks come out on top but there was no way that was happening.
