I remember people saying he would be the PG of the future in Dallas and was gonna be a good one. I guess he got hurt. Who knows if he stays on he could be a keeper. Diamond on the rough as Phil said
Yeah he was the 18th pick last year. He is a high character kid with leadership qualities and a 44 inch vertical.
Fred Jones had something of a 44 inch vertical, was selected 14th in his draft and even won a slam dunk contest. All of that amounted to 6 forgettable seasons in the league. I'm not sold on Larkin even though I'll admit that he is cut from a different cloth than Jones.

He certainly isn't a bad pickup. I am more sold on Larkin than I am on tourre

I'm a huge Bledsoe fan. Id love to get him for so little.
gunsnewing@ 6/25/2014 7:59 PM
Maybe Shumpert would be included in a sign & trade. Phoenix signs and trades Bledsoe to the Knicks for Shump, Dalembert & Larkin. Allowed?
CrushAlot@ 6/25/2014 8:33 PM
Dalemberts deal sounds like it is pretty liquid. If the Knicks waive him they get 4 mil off of their cap. Knowing that you could send Sam in a move to a team chasing stars and bring back a pick.

Then Why didn't Dallas just waive him for cap savings?
Maybe without him they don't unloaded Calderon as easily

Maybe. I think Mavs management thinks they messed up letting Tyson go and that maybe he is a big part of getting them back into the finals. Not sure how or why they would think that but it is possible.

It's stupid considering he was only on the floor for 28mins for them including playoffs. Knicks definitely overplayed him. Constantly in foul trouble and out injured or sick. Viable but not worth $15m per

Channing Frye is a UFA. If he didn't break the bank I would be up for bringing him back off the bench. Might do well in the triangle.

Let's get one thing straight... Shane Larkin is a legit prospect. He's no Fred Jones!!! If you ever saw Larkin play you'd know that he's a much better prospect than Jones. Larkin has legit NBA talent. I wanted the Knicks to get this kid in the draft and i'm happy to see we get a chance to see if we can develop him.
RELEVANT ADVANCED STATS: 3.4% steal percentage. Impressive for a guy his size.
SB NATION BIG BOARD POSITION: No. 30.
NBA CEILING: Isaiah Thomas (the Kings' version).
NBA FLOOR: D.J. Augustin.
JONATHAN TJARKS' ANALYSIS
Shane Larkin emerged on the national scene this season, leading Miami to the highest ranking in school history. After averaging 14 points, 4.5 assists and four rebounds on 47 percent shooting, he jumped while the iron was hot as a sophomore.
Jonathan Tjarks' ranking of the top prospects in the 2013 NBA Draft At 5'11 and 170 with a 5'11 wingspan, Larkin will be one of the smallest players in the NBA. The only way a guy with that size can make the league is if he has essentially no holes in his game. He is a high-level shooter and ball-handler who ran a ton of pick-and-roll for Miami. He will be a good offensive player, although bigger and longer defenders will take a toll on his efficiency numbers. The questions for Larkin come on defense. Nearly every guard he faces will be able to shoot over the top of his head. As a result, he may be better as a situational player coming off the bench.
The D.J. Augustin comp sticks with me when I think of Larkin. Don't let Augustin's NBA career fool you. He was a first-team All-American at Texas who had better stats than Larkin on an even better team. At their sizes, it's just hard to be a consistent player in the NBA. That may be Larkin's downfall at the next level.
IMO there have been many small PG's that have been effective on the NBA level. There's obviously more to it than size. I think this kid could be at a Jameer Nelson level with more hops.

look at the trade we just made.. people were talking chandler and melo for Deandre jordan and blake.. LOL.... instead we got 2 second round picks, dalembert and calderon.. we have to asses our talent fairly..
larkin and dalembert won't get you bledsoe's athletic cup..... used athletic cup...

Not bad for a "Novice!"
no this isn't a home run guns, far from it, but it is a reasonable deal, the kind of deals we should make when trying to dig out of a hole... It is a smart deal.... not great, but smart.. and that is always a good start...
tkf@ 6/25/2014 11:10 PM
what I do find amazing is that tyson and asik had similar contracts.. yet the pelicans got a first round pick for asik... Perceived value I guess... wow

Yea home run in that sense nothing like a blockbuster. Nice start well put

I would take Asik over Chandler ANY DAY, one is towards the end of their career and one is still developing as a STARTER
TFK, be happy we got positive value after unloading Felton and being able to unload Chandler as well, he was HORRIBLE the past 2 seasons despite some "BIG REBOUNDING" games Which I do not consider TAPPING out a basketball a rebound to his team mates for his multiple 20+ rebounding games... It is a misuse of the STAT in my opinion
I think it is a HOME RUN, we got rid of Felton's contract, 2 2nd rounders in a deep draft, a 1st rounder in Larkin, and a serviceable player in Calderon that is a TEAM player and efficient 3pt shooter with the ability to facilitate, unlike Novak who was just a SHOOTER
It is a GREAT START considering we had NOTHING to work with
The fact that we didn't even want to wait till the draft day or to see if we have better deals tells us Phil Jackson wanted to do the deal before Cuban backed out It is the correct choice because we hesitated on many of our previous trade rumors and it cost us

Uh, Fred Jones was a legit prospect. It's why he went 14th in his draft, ahead of dudes like Tayshaun Prince. I'm not sold on Larkin, especially with his health having been what it is. We could easily get a PG that is as good or better in this draft in the 20's without having to take on Calderon's contract. Hell, Omer Asik's mediocre ass got a first round pick from a lottery team, the Hornets. Needless to say, Larkin doesn't get me excited about losing Tyson Chandler.

Larkin is the value of a 1st round pick. Plus we got 2 other picks. And replaced Felton with Calderon who's a better player and on a better contract relative to his production. I think we got way more for chandler than they did for Asik.
Unless I read your statement wrong. Did you mean you are surprised they got 'only' a first round pick? Because we got way more than that.

who says I am not happy, I am thrilled, but I am not going to start overrating what we got back, I would have been happy with an unretired kevin ollie in this deal...LOL... we were not winning with what we have and we are not winning with these throw ins.... what this signifies is that phil is ready to blow this up and not spend anymore assets chasing overpaid players to "team up" or make "one last run" with carmelo and this crippled crew...

It wasn't only about Tyson though. Once you start adding Felton to a deal that 1st is off the table.
