Knicks · Pick 34 - Cleanthony Early (page 5)

Well I'll give him this, he has some good potential, I just think he is a pretty big project. If anyone can get the most out of the man, it's Phil and his chronies.

Nothing like insight without any facts to back it up. The fact is that second round picks who flourish in the NBA are rare, but there are some glowing exceptions. The fact that Uncle Phil garnered three selections on draft night just raised the bar for competition in Las Vegas. That is a good thing.

I simply don't like pre-judging players before they suit up for the first time.

i don't see how he's a pretty big project.. he was one of the most nba-ready players in the draft.

Um...no he isnt a project. Our other second round picks are "projects". Im not saying Early will be a all-star but he is nba ready.

and he shot like 12-17 in that game against some NBA lottery talent. Early went in the 2nd round because he's old. He's 23 (a year younger than James Harden for example). So he's got very limited physical upside. Knicks got a nice player with a pretty polished game and he's a very good athlete. He was the best player on the floor during that game. Says a lot!

I think this kid is a very good rotation player

From REALGM
- Cleanthony Early, Wichita State

Early is another player whose stock was boosted by his play in the NCAA Tournament, particularly a 31 point, 7 rebound performance against Kentucky in the second round. Early, who played as a small-ball PF at Wichita State, took the slower Wildcats big men out onto the perimeter and killed them from the three-point line. However, at the next level, where he will have to play primarily as a SF, he won’t have the same type of edge in athleticism or skill-set.

At 6’7 210 with a 6’11 wingspan, Early is an older player (23) with only average size and athleticism for the position. He shot 38% from 3 on 5 attempts a game as a senior and as long as he continues to knock down that shot, there will be a place for him at the next level. The problem is he doesn’t really offer much else - he doesn’t have the physical tools to be a great defensive player and he’s not a particularly gifted passer or rebounder either. He’s just a guy.

And I see a homer. Where are your facts? I posted an analysis based off scouting reports. I'm simply being objective.

http://www.kansas.com/2014/03/16/3349827...

You got a heck of a player. As you saw with Kentucky, when he is really dialed in he shines. Even at 23 he isn't close to his ceiling yet. The improvements he made between year 1 and 2 with the Shox was incredible. Marshall really gets kids who WANT to work hard. Rest assured he will be working hard to prove any naysayers wrong. He loves playing with a chip on his shoulder.

Someone asked if Murry and Cle ever played together. No they didn't. They both played for and were recruited by. Marshall. They both know each other obviously due to the Wichita St connection. But they haven't played together.

You would know better than me but it seems unlikely Murry signs with the Knicks again, or no? Seems like they brought in some good young guards like Larkin? I would love to see Murry stay though. I know he loves it there and you won't find a more loyal guy.

Hey looked what happened last time there were 2 ex-Wichita St players on the Knicks roster...they won a title!!!! Lol worked once before with Nate Bowman and Dave "the rave" Stallworth!!! LETS DO IT!

I loved the article. Looking forward to see what Cleanthony can bring to the Knicks.

The Answer Man Is Early To Bed, Early To Rise

Q. tj23 - Where are your facts?

A. Early, 23, who is 6 feet 8, averaged 16.4 points per game while shooting 48.6 percent as a senior. The Shockers went 35-1, their only loss coming in the N.C.A.A. tournament, to Kentucky. Early was virtually unstoppable in that game, finishing with 31 points in 39 minutes.

How's 48.6 for facts?

misterearl @ 7/1/2014 6:46 AM
Fact Numbero Uno

“(Phil Jackson) picked me for a reason.”

tj23 - scouting reports? The only scouting report that matters is the one on Phil's desk.

What are your facts? the other day you called him a "project" which he isnt. He may not be a all-star BUT he is NBA ready and he is geat value for a second round

time will tell, but you have to figure the Knicks took a polished guy at 23 years old because he has some skills that translate to this level. There were other options... Im curious to see how we look. This is management's first draft. Fingers crossed. I like him. I see some Gerald Wallace.
nixluva @ 7/1/2014 4:51 PM
I personally like his prospects better than Wallace. I just see a smoother player who can play without the ball very well. Very similar to Wallace but also like a young Caron Butler shooting wise. He's got that Melo Jab Step Jumper down too.

Butler and Wallace are two guys I really like. If Early plays and has a career similar to either of them he would he would be a second round steal.

I think if some of the Knick fans that have poo pooed this pick step back and think about the fact that we had NO PICKS and then got a gift in the 2nd rd with Early who performed his best in the big games against top competition, then how can they not like this pick? This is a guy you can stick in there and he has ability. Every pick you make can't be the next Lebron. However, you can hope for someone that can make a difference or have an impact and I think Early can do that. We needed a legit SF that can finish at the rim and score in a team concept rather than pounding the ball all the time and taking tough shots.

Most people loved the early pick it was a great value pick considering we had no picks 2 days prior.. Its nice melo liked early pick but i doubt Phil was looking for his approval

I agree but it was in the context of Melo and phil having connected. Broussard mentioned Melo knowing and being ok with the Tyson trade at the same time.

Even if he hated the tarde it wouldnt matter because it was a very good trade for us. I dont mind melo coming back as long as he understands he has to do it Phil's way

I am not sure if he is coming back but what has been stated by several in the media is that Phil and Melo are having a dialogue about what moves Phil is making. I also heard today that Phil has told Melo that he will give him the max if that is what it takes to have him return.
