Knicks · line up w melo next year so far (page 9)

The way Phil is retooling the Knicks is kind of like the team we could've had if Melo and Dolan had waited and not forced the trade which depleted the young talent pool. Phil has a system and a blueprint for the kind of players he needs for this team to be successful. Already Melo has to see the smart moves Phil is making. IMO this roster is already improved from last year!!! Better starting PG, change of pace backup PG, a legit SF talent and decent C in Dalembert to give about 20 mins. Phil has a shot at adding Pau tho it may be a longshot. If he did that would be huge. A motivated and happy Pau would help a lot.

That lineup is built for running, with Melo at PF slot. The team needs to add defensive toughness, especially if Calderon is a starter. A lot of running and gunning leading to another first round exit.

My first thought was that outside of Dalembert no one is playing defense. We need another 2 way player at the 2/3. maybe Early can fil that role.

The impression I get from Phil is that he plans on using our young guys to pressure the ball full court and be much more aggressive defensively. Sounds like he will want a deep rotation. I think we have enough quick athletic players to do that. We may not have a lot of top grade defenders but Fish always gave his all defensively despite physical limitations. I see him being a coach that will demand that effort.

Where is shumpert?

I see:
Calderone
Shump
Melo
Bargs
Dalembart

With the SG and C playing defense.
Calderone orchestrating and bargs stretch 4.

Bench of amare, jr and hardaway.

Swap amare for bargs but that's less triangle than bargs starting.
