Wayne Ellington has played in the triangle already and has value due to his team play and jumpshot.
Tim Hardaway Jr is ready right now as a scorer. Very locked in and eager to get better.
Toure Murry was mentioned personally by Fisher at the press conference. He's good defensively and actually would probably be fantastic in the triangle as a shooting guard masquerading as a point guard.
Shannon Brown has triangle experience and has value in the same way Wayne Ellington has.
Jr Smith is a legit talent with a full offensive game and the ability to ball handle and facilitate.
All these guys can defend and they all are reliable players, even Jr Smmith if he is locked in.
I didn't even mention Shane Larkin, Pablo and Calderon....
So Shump has no purpose on this team aside from being the wet dream for fans as being this super defender like he's the bastard child of the Orkin man and the Trojan man.
At this point losing the dude for a future pick would be fine because all bases are covered with this cat

that's not the point...right now we have plenty of adequate replacements....We could conceivably just waive Shannon Brown and bench Ellington, but how does Shump get minutes over a probable backcourt of:

SG JR Smith, THjr, Toure Murry
Do we keep Shump just to play him 15 minutes a game in this mix? Is this why we refuse to trade him and want to keep him so he can play 15 minutes a game as a backup?
The only team I can think of is the Lakers because they may or might be desperate enough to just absorb his deal

That's what I was just thinking sign and trade for gasol. I want jr gone ..it's time to start thjr and let him grow. Also trade shump but maybe hold on to him next year, pg caldron,Larkin,prigs, sg thjr,shump, Ellington. brown is a 12thman and Ellington will have to fight for pt he's really not good. Then trade shump for picks and make room for the Greek freak.

It would be easier to do if JR wasn't better than everybody else. There has been rumors about Larkin, Felton, and Shumpert. When odom was coming in, Chandler was going out and Melo was going into decision mode.
Nothing about Jr, Thjr, Tyler or Priggy....I don't see any of them being moved. Priggy out of respect and the others because Phil wants them.

the but that exists tho is the fact that Jr Smith is untradeable unless we help a team out or a team is desperate for talent. Jr is such an asshole. If he wasn't we wouldn't want to trade him. Phil must have put JR down with his book club because a few weeks ago Jr posted a motivational book centered around basketball he has been reading that changed his life on his Instagram account. Maybe Phil accepts the fact Jr can't be traded and is trying to Zen Master his mind into focusing more on his career.
Shump is the only player we can yield decent value for. Keeping him to showcase him is something Knicks management would have done in the past. Phil just traded Chandler with the quickness even though everyone still thinks he has worth, for chemistry purposes. Chandler is supposed to be the ultimate glue guy/leader but traded away for chemistry issues. So I'm sure Phil is well aware of our situation.
I speculate that Phil understands that Shump has been wasting his time and feel he has this entitlement issue. That's why we have accumulated so many players that can easily step in and do what he has been doing.
Right now the Knicks have issue with their front court...they need stability and the ??? surrounding Amare and Tyler is too great to be trying to give Shumpert a bubble bath in between mani and Pedi's....The team needs to be fixed. I think that is more importing to the team than baby sitting an expendable rotational player.

I think Early will have more assets for PT. I don't like Shump's # on the cap next year. We can have both Early and Thannis for 1/4 of what Shump would make next year. We dont need 3 of those guys if Melo comes back. Lets see early and Thannis in SL action and let Melo play out--then we get form an opinion if we need Shumpert.
Can't blame injuries anymore, or the lack of time to improve his game. Its now or never.

Iman is not a SF, definitely NOT a SF/PF, he needs to regain his quickness/speed and work on his handle/ability to take contact/finish/facilitating
MOST IMPORTANTLY, the ability to DEFEND the PG and SG with that fire he had as a rook, however, he needs team mates that has the ability to attack together as well like he did with
I think Greek Freak is ready to contribute right now as a defender and as a set shooter, playing a raw Gereld Green (that was on the Nets prior to landing his 3.5 for 3 years deal with Pacers)

The injuries could be a excuse but not the playing time. Shumpert has been given minutes he didn't deserve for a while. He's been a starter no matter what. He got benched out of desperation at the end of last year.
Anyway, Shump is marketable and he's done a good job hiding behind his potential. Truth is he got embarrassed last summer league trying to play point guard. He knew he got embarrassed, that's why he escaped to do the nba gig in China. A guy that gets abused like that should not be going to China like he's already made it. That's my complete issue with this guy. He's not what people are dreaming about. He could do it next year but i personally don't care to see it. Let him go to team x and become one of those players that play better on other teams. Imho we've wasted enough time on him. We could have gotten Isaiah Thomas from sac town but we vetoed that. We could have moved him a few times.
Right now alot of fans are going for him to be their hero like they are 8 years old. The nba is a man's league yet we have become obsessed with developing players that should already have tools to be a pro. Shump has too many questions to be a fit with going on 4 years of nba experience. Injuries aren't an excuse. Don't blame a team for not developing him. He should have been developed in high school and college. In the off season instead of rapping and flying to ch I name fucking around he should be in the gym getting better. He posts videos of his workouts on social media. I not impressed because he's not working on anything in my opinion that shows he's working hard. Practicing his jumpshot and playing against inferior competition is not enough.
I'm sorry i can't stand the free pass this guy gets and he is by all counts just a glorified role payer. He's never locked anyone down. Bargnani locked down Dwight Howard and that's a fact yet he gets trashed for defense. Ray Felton locked down Paul piece in the playoffs and that's a fact yet he's trashed hard for defense. Shump gets beat of the dribble and beat by not paying attention all the time. He doesn't play gid team defense either. He might get a few highlight steals once every other game but that's not defense. Stephen curry is a horrible defender but averages 2 steals a game. Steals don't tell the whole story.
Excuse the rant but I can't take it. At the same time Shump could improve but I would prefer him do it on another team.

Shump was a lockdown defender, on man D, early on, but the knee problems slowed him down. He used to be able to cover ground really fast. He's always had trouble with team D, pre and post injury. Enough time has passed where he can't blame injuries for his lack of growth as a player.
Shump plays like someone who believes that he has already arrived. If I had as much trouble getting to the rim as he has, that would have been the first thing I worked on. Ive seen him swish off the dribble jumpers, go on a 3pt tear, but he rarely seems to know how to put it together. Iman gets stopped on a drive, and more often than not its the last time you will see him try that in the same game.
I believe the injuries were a legit reason for his problems at one time but not anymore. Shumpert still might learn how to better pick and choose his moments but unless he shows something real soon, he won't be in NY for long. Playing for a small market team would be the best thing IMO. Less distractions, more incentive to make a name for himself on the court.
This is a do or die year for shumpert in NY.. if he is still here..
