Better off with the latter

Haven't heard anything from the Knicks camp that refutes his max offer so it might be the latter. If Melo is doing that, then I hope Phil lets him walk unless its a really good deal.

Can anyone explain how LA puts a decent team around melo if they sign him for the max? I just don't see it.

Agreed...to add to that, they don't have a coach as of yet, and they finished second to last in western conference last year. I don't see LA as a legit option....

They amnesty Kobe? And then sign him back once he "retires" from whatever team picks him or the wires.

Yeah also some flip flopping about Melo. Yesterday he liked the direction Phil was taking the team and today he is mad at Phil?

He is mad at Phil? Is that on some article? Must have missed it

From Wojo's article:
One thing that still bothers Anthony is Jackson had wanted him to take less than a max contract, sources told Yahoo Sports.

They cannot amnesty Kobe as his current contract was signed under the new CBA. Amnesty is only for contracts signed under old CBA and there are actually only a handful of players left who are eligible to be amnestied.

Why is it that the Lakers weren't considered serious yesterday when the actual meeting took place, but now a day later, after the Knick meeting, the Lakers are all of a sudden a serious contender?

Here's my take. Leon Rose, Melo's agent is leaking this info about the Lakers being serious contender to land Melo as a negotiation ploy. Perhaps Melo is not going to take the max, but Leon Rose wants as much as he can get, maybe somewhere around $115 mil. I know its out there that the max is on the table, but Phil would prefer that Melo take less as Melo has stated. But what is less? That's whats being discussed during negotiation IMO....and this sudden Laker interest is a way to snatch up every last penny by Rose...

Makes no sense. If we told him he can get the max then his agent doesn't need to negotiate anything.

Second one makes more sense, I think. Chicago still hasn't moved on Boozer and probably upped their offer from $16 mil of whatever the 4 year max is (the same as LA's offered).

Nobody mentioned the possibility if Lebron going to LA with Anthony with both taking less dough. Is that even possible with Kobe's super max deal? If Lebron called Melo and said F it let's go to LA would that be enough for him to rethink returning to NY?

Thanks for re posting this

melo's sources are making it seem like their meal ticket is drunk. melo says he's willing to take a paycut, jackson says he hopes melo is true to his word, and now melo is annoyed for being asked to take less.

Has to be, because the timing is just weird. Melo visits the Lakers and they say LA isnt in considerations and the meeting was bad. Now all of a sudden they are in the game because of the Max?

This seems like a play to make Carmelo take the max without negativity from fans and that wont work. I'd rather trade him to Chicago for assets.

Melo has said he is all about winning, but pushing for the max after saying he would take less to have a winning team is weak.

Want the money? Ok, enjoy Chicago. We'll move forward either way.

I was thinking of this. But they will have to play 3 against 12. I really think all this is about demanding a trade to Chicago so he can get his max.

There is a lot of stuff out there. I think what makes this confusing is what is coming out of Wojo. From Wojo yesterday:
Anthony's increased confidence with the Knicks' direction – which includes a maximum contract offer of five years and $129 million – has strengthened the franchise's chances of re-signing Anthony, league sources told Yahoo Sports.

Today:
One thing that still bothers Anthony is Jackson had wanted him to take less than a max contract, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Also, in yesterday's article:
Jackson dispelled doubts that he was indifferent about Anthony staying with the Knicks, sources said.

I have always found Wojo to be reliable when it comes to posting rumors/scoops.
meloshouldgo @ 7/5/2014 10:40 PM
So he was good with the direction of the Knicks when he thought he would get the max. Jackson may have reiterated the ask for talking less and now he is mad at that.
CrushAlot @ 7/5/2014 10:52 PM
Speculation/hope in Chicago that the Lakers are being used to negotiate a sign and trade with the bulls.
