Doc: "No Mike, we will not be switching"
Great gig, happy for Woodson who was well-intentioned and a good guy, connected with and respected/got respect from the players, but was severely lacking in key ways, and just plain not good enough to be Knick head coach.
He wasn't good enough to be had coach. It was painful to watch. Got bailed out by JKidd and Co. That one year.
Thats a good hire, as long as he's not a head coach he can definitely bring something to the table.
Same for MDA, he's a bonus to have on your coaching staff, but neither of them are head coaches.
Yeah, guys who did really well before head coach as knicks are not "good enough" for them?
ATL improved every year under woodson. Good coach, not great. MDA, coach of the year and biggest crime was could not get past Lakes or SAS, avged 54 wins. Not good enough.
Todays NBA spolstra is the longest tenured coach besides POP!!!! I guess nobody is good enough for anyone!!!
Glad Woodson got back on the bench. Does he give up the money the knicks owe him.

I agree about Woodson. He was put in a horrible situation last year.

How did he do really well? The hawks were badly coached. All they did was iso-Joe. I don't think his teams overachieved. He has never shown any creativity. Any ability to adapt. He is extremely stubborn pig headed and limited. I can't believe we hired him for defense because his switching scheme sucks.
Never said anything about Dantoni, so not sure who that was addressed at.
MDA gets a bad rap from the NY and LA stints where neither franchise really wanted to support him with what he needed. Just for giggles go look at the sheer volume of players he coached between NY and LA. It's an NBA record number of players. He got paid but both situations his owner n GM's didn't recognize he is a system coach and if you hire him you have to work with him and not against him. He's the worst guy to fit with selfish stars who won't listen or support him.
Woodson is not as accomplished as MDA. Hard to see Popovich or Coach K viewing him as a fellow respected BB mind as they did MDA! I'm just glad Woodson is gone cuz I don't think he brought much to the table. He just got the buddy hook up in NY.

Completely agree on both counts
Don't know what he did in ATL, but Woodie was exposed when he came to New York. No offensive scheme, and for a defensive specialist, he was found to be lacking. Doc had better watch his back.
seriously. Awful hire by the clippers. They won't get out of the 1st round even adding Hawes who I wanted for the Triangle
Appropriate that the company man with no backbone goes to work for the clippers. They probably know he's not the type to ask questions as long as the paychecks keep coming in.
I think Woodson isn't a bad ASSISTANT coach, he just isn't a good HEAD COACH with high IQ, or a real X and O's, and have a real philosophy whether on OFF or DEF
He does have passion and love for the game, something that could translate well as an assistant
Like Felton, Chandler, and now Woodson, I wish them well but at the same time, glad they are NOT with the NYK's
Really wanted him to succeed here. Liked the idea that he had a link to the Knicks and Holtzman, but what would Red have thought about Woodson's offensive philosophy? You know Woodson did not learn how to run an offense from studying what Holtzman did.
I think his early defensive success as MDA's assistant was due to Chandler, and perhaps Shumpert, coming to the team, and Anthony deciding to play for him after throwing MDA under the bus by not playing at 100% effort, and not anything special Woodson did to design a D.
Wonder what his role with L.A. is going to be?
Look at Red's record:
http://www.basketball-reference.com/coac...The man who in 1998 was voted one of the top 10 greatest coachs had some real bad seasons.
I gonna guess he had some "Clumsy" rosters.
Woodson's last season in ATL he won 53 games after each season they got better. Ownership thought they should have done better. Seems like owners love to fire coach's. Karl wins 57 games and gets let go, Hollins by memphis......It happens. Coach's sometimes take a team as far as they can. usually the next coach does not do as well.
Lots of variables but Woodson and MDA had some serious handicap roster problems in their tenure. They are good coach's that fit bad with the rosters.
Woodson got bailed out by Kidd? Really?

I'm looking forward to a coach who actually calls plays coming out of time outs.
Not the horseshit we've been subjected to since MDA and Woodson.
I think Phisher will be a huge step forward.
Good hire by Doc. If Calvin Candy is found fit and prevails in stalling the sale of "CandyLand" perhaps Doc will leave and Woodson will again be in line to step up and coach once more.
