Knicks · Should We Try to Pursue Dwayne Wade? (page 2)

1) I didn't say his range was far off base.

2) Yes, it was off base.

3) Winning 40-45 games sucks in the NBA. That is being average. Yes that gives you a decent playoff spot but it also gives you a second round exit and IMO, that sucks. We need to build toward the future. We aren't going anywhere this season. Just suck it up and accept being bad for one season. We have an actual draft pick this coming season. Use it.

You have so many wild trade scenarios but you are not seeing that Phil wants culture change not insane archaic knick type moves.

Really? Is that why we traded for Jose Calderon, in hopes of netting a star, Pau Gasol, for $3 million per year, to then have him recruit his brother, Marc Gasol? Seems like the same shit but with new flavor. Wade's a shadow of his former self but he can give you 60-ish games as one of the best players in the league. Aside from Melo, that is head and shoulders above anyone else we currently have on this roster.

ridding ourselves of cancerous cells is the first step towards culture change. Nobody was just gonna take felton.

And nobody was just going to take Steve Novak either...but they did. If Felton was so toxic that we couldn't banish him to the end of the bench, buy him out. We've bought out/ate contracts far more pricey than he was ever.

This 100%

That would keep his salary on the books for this and next season. ^

My range was off base or you just think it sucks?

Cause it does suck.

well getting rid of novak cost us a first round pick. Getting rid of fat felton and flutyson netted us a upgraded pg, larkin, ellington, and 2 picks. Id say the mavs tarde was a bit better for us

1.) By objecting to what mreinman said, you were implying that it was far enough off base to comment.

2.) Then what are you arguing about?

3.) No one was saying that winning 40-45 games was admirable. It is, however, a reality if all you have on the team is Melo.

So what? Its not like we'd have cap space this season and a fraction of his $4.5 million would be insignificant in 2015 with only Melo, Hardaway and JR under contract.

We paid a first rounder and two second round picks to get rid of Novak because we're stupid. The market value is and always was a 2nd round pick to do that, which is exactly what the Raptors paid to ditch him just last week.

As for Felton, we could've signed Brian Roberts for New Orleans and he would've been an upgrade. Hell, we could've whipped you into NBA shape and you would've been a better PG than Felton. So Calderon being an upgrade alone, is not much consolation for me. To be honest though, I'm tired of beating a dead horse about that so maybe we should move on from that point.

If you are going to say "All you have is Melo" then why would you even imagine signing him to a large contract? Before 2010, all Cleveland had was LeBron. They made it the finals and were an EC power. I am not comparing Melo to LeBron, but for a max contract guy, we have to hold him to a higher standard then that... and he hasn't delivered that in the playoffs despite the fact that he has had talent around him.

My point: Let him go and move forward. Suck for this season and get the capspace and asset(s).

franco12 @ 7/11/2014 4:05 PM
I think we should see if we could trade Amar'e to Miami- I'd be happy with a future 2nd rounder (next year's no protection!)
Nalod @ 7/11/2014 4:07 PM
I'd like to see Wade "Go home" to chicago.

My feeling is he opted out but Miami will honor the original contract or some facsimile of it.

Your standard for the max seems to be LeBron, Durant or bust. Because outside of Durant, no one is in the class of LeBron and even Durant is still an inferior player to LeBron. If that's the case, I'd strongly disagree with you.

As for Melo, I've been against offering him the max because of the cap and the way it's structured. I've also been on record preferencing a rebuild instead of trying to build around Melo. 2015 and beyond is a fool's errand and we simply won't have the assets to improve the team from within. I'm not sure that what I've said in this thread has deviated from this position.

But for what it's worth, Melo is a max player on a good team IMO. He's done a pretty good job here with subpar players but "pretty good" isn't enough to keep us satisfied. It definitely isn't his fault though.

Me too...but that's because their starting backcourt would never actually play, lol.

If Wade leaves Miami I can definitely see him going home to Chicago

I'd love to see Wade go to Chicago- keeps Melo in NYC (or Miami, all alone!)

You do realize that you're a fan of the Knicks...the team that gave up LaMarcus Aldridge and Joakim Noah for Eddy Curry...the team that traded away Mark Jackson for nothing....the team that created cap space to sign Amare Stoudemire. How would this break from our modus operandi? LOL.

If the MO is so bad why wouldn't you try to change it and break the cycle? Yet you are advocating another one of these signature franchise-killing moves. The hell...
