The Houston Rockets have traded guard Jeremy Lin and a future first-round pick to the Los Angeles Lakers, a league source told ESPN's Jeff Goodman.

The Lakers were amenable to this deal, according to sources, because Lin is only under contract for one more season, thus preserving their cap space next summer. They also covet draft picks, after trading away their first-round picks in 2015 and 2017 to Phoenix and Orlando as part of the Steve Nash and Dwight Howard trades, respectively.

The Rockets made a maximum offer to center Chris Bosh of four years, $88 million, but came up empty as he is finalizing a deal to return to the Miami Heat on a five-year, $118 million contract, sources confirmed to ESPN.

The Rockets intended to match the Dallas Mavericks' three-year, $46 million offer sheet to restricted free agent Chandler Parsons after signing Bosh, a source told ESPNDallas.com.

After trading Lin, the Rockets' plan now is to complete their agreed-upon trade of Omer Asik to the New Orleans Pelicans.

The Philadelphia 76ers had expressed a willingness to trade for Lin depending on what sort of assets Houston is willing to attach to the deal, sources close to the process told ESPN recently.

The Rockets are getting Bosh. That's a very good front court.

Reported that Bosh just signed with the Heat.
Andrew @ 7/11/2014 6:15 PM
Which makes you go Hmmmm about this trade. Why do the Rockets want cap space? Or are they just shedding salary.
meloshouldgo @ 7/11/2014 6:18 PM
The Rockets wanted Bosh badly, but I think the Heat pulled desperation move. Rockets were offering 90M, Heat is giving him the extra year and 118M. Guess Bosh wants his money too.

Melo for parsons & co? Or harden?
VDesai @ 7/11/2014 6:48 PM
Will the Rockets make a max offer to Melo now?
Bonn1997 @ 7/11/2014 6:50 PM
Look at trade advantages of being under the cap. You get Lin for a year plus his Bird rights and a first round pick without having to give anything up.
CrushAlot @ 7/11/2014 6:52 PM
Lakers should be a good spot. I think he would have backed up Carter Williams with Jackson out for the year in Philly. He should start in LA.

They also have a really bad team at the time being.

Well... I guess we won't hear anything about Melo today, considering Lin is stealing all the headlines.

Very true but I think the Knicks had enough non guaranteed contracts to get Lin if they wanted to.

More likely than not, Bosh jooked the shit out of them and changed his mind after MIA upped their ante.

My prediction always comes true. I predicted Lin would be traded during the Linsanity season and everyone called me crazy. I predicted Lin will end up as a Lakers at some point in his career and it came true as well.

He wasn't traded during the linsanity season. The rockets offered him a poison pill contract. That was hw he ended up in houston.
gunsnewing @ 7/12/2014 6:18 AM
