I think the point is prior to Shaq there was less emphasis on the center in the triangle, because the offense survives without a back to the basket, low post player. Instead your center is playing more high post, is setting picks, hitting jumpers, moving the ball. Shaq's great passing ability created a bit of a triangle tweak, but in Chicago the empahsis was on the two wing guys and C was more of an after thought.

I like this signing. Added some size, and that jumper can really help space the floor. So now we still have the 3.6 million left to use on a single player?

Yes, and maybe my understanding of it is off - can't we use the trade exception to sign a single FA? Or is it solely for filler on trades in place of matching salary?

plus phil said during the last game that he think CENTER is amare's best position (probably was when he was in his prime at phx). so i expect him to the play the 5 as well

Not terrible. I had a few bigs ahead of him on my wish list, but not a bad signing at all. He's big, he'll compete, he can hit a jumper, he'll lay a hard foul on someone, not terrible offensively...Decent move.

Is that it? Are we still in the market for another big? Another post-up 4-man? Another rebounder? Another SF for the depth chart? Another younger ball-handler (better option over Pablo)? Do we try to alleviate the glut at 2G? I'd think long and hard about just dumping Wayne Ellington. This dude's not getting his due -- one of my favorite pieces we got back in the deal with Dallas...Probably the best shooter on the squad now, better than Calderon imo. Marc Berman's talking about the guy like he's an afterthought -- this guy's a very representative 2G in my eyes. Here's hoping we can move one of our other SGs for something and keep this guy...Just read Phil's shopping JR..

Calderon is an elite 3pt shooter in the league, no way is scrub Ellington better than him. Hardaway is a better shooter than Ellington as well. I think he is an afterthought, his only redeeming quality I'd that he somewhat knows the triangle.

Brings us up to 16 players if Thanasis Antetokounmpo makes the team (but not including Shannon Brown). Phil said he wanted a backup SF to spell Melo. It's odd that he said he viewed Amar'e as a C, because that leaves us with him, Cole, Jason Smith, and Dalambert. I guess the plan is to play Bargs at PF.

I miss the old 7ft white scrubs that were all the rage in the 90s, so I like this signing as it takes me back!

Jason Smith's number of games played the past 2 years is scary- 51 and 31, but he seems like a solid enough signing for the 15th man on the roster.

one thing about Jason Smith is he doesn't need motivation to bring energy. He's always been a high energy player. Phil made good on that comment. He wants guys to already have it in then to bring it.

Now I don't think we need him tackling dudes full court, but we have a guy that is not afraid to play the game. He will put the hammer down if need be.

Btw they used the tax payers exemption.....we still have the Dallas trade exemption and yes we can spend that on a player for the umpteenth time muthasucka

This guy fits nicely. Shoots the mid-range very well. Gets rebounds and blocks shots.

IF he stays healthy of course. At the very least, he can rotate with Cole to backup Dalembert.

Phil is balancing the roster and getting guys who can shot mid range very well. I also agree with him that Bargs will play well in the triangle.
