Indiana lost Lance to free agency and now Paul George to this freak injury....they are toast now. They might need to dump guys now. If I was Larry Bird, as soon as this settles in...I would look to dump salary and prepare the team for when Paul George comes back....best believe he will eventually.

Kind've fucked up....but an unprotected 2015 first rounder from Indiana would be looking pretty good right about now. I could see them offloading George Hill, David West and Roy Hibbert though, all of whom we could use and are imminently available. This yet another Indiana team that had it's contender status cut short (I'm thinking of Jermaine O'Neal-Ron Artest era).

well it's a business as they say....Indiana could use a high pick now and they could use cap space going forward.....

the Knicks need David West to protect Melo inside....Hibbert sucks but he could be used as well.....the kinda obvious deal is Amare and Shump for West and Hibbert.

Indiana reloads and the Knicks man up....

This is a legit theory because Paul George is gonna be out a season and a half at least. If they can tank a little next season and make a free agent signing, they can reinvent the franchise behind a stellar rookie and a blue chip free agent to pair with Paul on his comeback tour.

Yeah, Hibbert's kind of a bum but I think they'd want to dump him and that contract in any deal involving David West. And considering West's advanced age, I doubt he'd command much beyond an expirer and an Iman Shumpert if Hibbert's included in the deal.

On a side, I somewhat like George Hill who I took could be a good bench player. I'd demand him back in the deal...maybe even push for Luis Scola who is a bit of a sieve defensively at this point but would be a good fit off the bench in the triangle as well. Maybe Amare, Bargnani, Shumpert and Larkin for Hibbert, West, Hill and Scola?

I"be seen the replay a few times now and honestly can't detect the injury.
EnySpree @ 8/2/2014 12:17 AM
I'm watching the presser now....very awkward. They can't really talk about anything....can't answer any questions George cuz it's obvious what happened. They can talk about replacements...they won't talk about the game either.

Sad shit man but these guys are multi millionaires....there needs to be some respect but in a few days all this will be behind them and the game will go on. George will absolutely bounce back. He's not going to be hard pressed for money so he'll be good after jus signing a max deal....Indiana will need to make a hard decision. I would definitely try to dump salary, but they could easily be content sticking Copeland out there and fight for the 6-8 spots in the playoffs.

These are some tools that may make the healing process quicker.

Heard about it on the radio, did not see it yet, and from what I heard from reporters, bystanders and what you guys are describing, there is no way I am going to look at a video of the injury at this point.

I remember the Theismann/Taylor injury, and was only able to look at it once.

Just don't need to have the image in my mind.

Tough injury for a George. He's like Rose in that his athleticism plays such a large part of what makes him a superior player. It will be interesting to see how he compensates for his diminished athleticism if he does not recover 100% from the injury.

Strange that Rose was watching. Wonder if it will affect his play?

These injuries are not as bad as they seem. It is WAY better to break a bone than to suffer a ligament/joint injury. Max he will have 1 year out to be safe and his bones will be stronger than they were before the injury. He will have a titanium rod inserted and the bone grown also adds to it being stronger. Anderson Silva had the same injury from a checked kick and he has a fight booked for a little over a year past the day he got injured. Just yesterday he said his leg was 95% now but he will give it more time to be safe. We are only 7 months away from when he got injured.

Has his actual injury been reported? Speculation seems to be all over the place, from what I read some think this injury will carry over the rest of his career.

There has not been an official injury report but I think it is pretty obvious what is going on when you see the middle of his shin bone create a 90 degree angle. I am a huge MMA fan and this type of injury has happened 3 times there. The docs said the only problems that will occur long term from these injuries are...

1. Mental: Will he trust his body to do what it should do.
2. Nerve damage caused by a break with a sharp jagged edges.

Here is one of the best doctors in the world explaining these types of injuries. He is the one that fixed Anderson Silva. He is probably the one doing Paul's surgery as well. He lives in Vegas so Paul could not be in better hands if in fact he is doing the surgery.

I suffered lower leg trauma due to an car accident. My injury was more similar to Shaun Livingston(dislocated Knee) but I severed some nerves and blood vessels plus I had other trauma. Now, Every time I see a bad injury I worry about nerve damage and circulatory trauma. As long as there isn't any of those things I think PG will be good going forward with all the new tech he will have at his hands.

nyvector16 @ 8/2/2014 4:41 AM
Paul George's injury is almost exactly like Silva's after seeing both.
The only difference is the Silva's 90 degree break was forward of his body and PG's was 90 degrees to the side.
I am not a doctor and have no idea if that makes any difference at all, but I hope he makes a complete recovery.

This injury was completely due to that stupid upright being to close to the court line.
This incident alone should warrant a ban on using these so close to the court.
To continue to use them just because the arena is deficient in length is no excuse.

I don't recall the Summer League games having that thing so close.
If they are continued to be used then they are gambling with player's careers.

smackeddog @ 8/2/2014 4:53 AM
Horrific stuff- it'll be real struggle to get over that physically and mentally. Hope he does though, Shawn Livingston is an amazing example that it's possible.
Silverfuel @ 8/2/2014 5:41 AM
Wow, that sucks! That looked so painful. WTF was the basket stand doing so close to the line? Someone posted this to compare the distance between the line and the stanchion from NBA and on this court:

gunsnewing @ 8/2/2014 5:56 AM
WOW this is awful
anrst @ 8/2/2014 7:07 AM
its gross. sorry for paul.

but this is a great opportunity for the knicks. i could see indiana not even making the playoffs now.

Ok I can see it now. I guess I was expecting it to look like Kevin Ware's leg.

After seeing the slowed down and zoomed in vine on the internet it is almost as bad as Ware's injury. It was way worse than watching the normal replay at normal speed. while watching the vine you can definitely see bone and the bone looks like it hit the ground leaving a chunk of it on the floor or the sharp edge of the bone cut the floor. After the injury you see a small white spot on the floor where the bone touched the ground. I think we were saved from seeing the injury aftermath as bad as Ware because Paul hidden by the hoop. No matter how many of these I see it never gets easier to watch.

After seeing it in slow motion it is really clear. Can't believe they would have them play in facilties that don't meet NBA court standards.
Kevin Love must be feeling so relieved after feeling guilty for pulling out because of his contract situation.

I remember on my sons Jr high team a mom pulling her son from the middle of a game cause a lunch table was too close the back of the basket. She was rigt for doing so, but at the time everybody thought she was hating. Sure enough a week later a kif got injured and ended up in a neck brace.

CrushAlot @ 8/2/2014 9:06 AM
Awful injury. Hope he recovers.
