You blew it with Cory Jefferson--I dont know how by looking at this roster full of guys held together with bandages--just like two years ago!! We need a young healthy body upfront who can play this game--get rebounds and score some. Cooley proved himself in both SL's college and the Turkish league--he play inside and hes somewhat long at 6-9 250 with a 7-2 wingspan. He can hit that mid range J if needed and guard within the system. The guy would cost maybe 1.5mm for 2 years with a team option for 3??
Cooley is not nba talent. I disagree
I don't think Phil is signing anymore free agents we did not draft until after he makes a trade to sort out the glut in the 2.

Thats what a lot of people said about David lee
I agree about
Jack Cooley
Or
Jamalle Haigins to play Kmarts role
Then again, I am one of the few if not only that believes
Darko Milicic
could be a solid rotional Center, especially, in the Triangle
If he stayed in NBA shape like he did before he signed with Celtics, nearly
2 years ago

Everyone acknowledged Lee was NBA athlete. people questioned if he'd ever develop and NBA level skill. Cooley had a lot of work to do physically coming out of the draft. I don't mean to be dismissive, but don't you think there are better prospects out there?

I think hes proven in 2 NBA SL 1 season in Turkey and a 4 year career in the BE that he is a guy who can play basketball. Is there a retread who is better than Cooley--sure but were not paying that kind of money. He's a heady thick 6=9 250 pd 4 with long arms who can run hits 60+% of his shots and was the number 1 rebounder per minute in the toughest NCAA league. He's a decent shot block and defender. Id rather have him than a Kanyon Martin who will last 17 games
I'm a believer in Jack Cooley myself. He's a old school throwback kinda guy. Like Armon Gilliam back in the days.
Cooleys problem right now is the NBA is working towards the mobile 4 when he is an interior 4 but he hasn't been in the right situation yet

Cooley is on an incredible run in the d l. He had 29 boards last night and 27 points. He seems like a good, low cost big that could slide right into the rotation for the knicks as a 4/5.

I don't know why the Knicks don't give him a chance.
from that clip, he seems mobile and has great hands. We should be trying guys out with 10 contracts.
I don't really see anyone on the roster at present who is an absolute must keeper into next season.
Never saw him but he put up very good Notre Dame and NBDL stats. Good find.

Cooley IMHO was born 15-20 years too late. Sort of like how Danny Woodhead was born 50 years too late for the NFL. Cooley would have been an interesting enforcer in a previous era of the NBA. I think Don Nelson and some elements of Nellieball would have loved him.
I see Cooley as a fringe 5th or 6th roster big at best, an energy guy worth six hard fouls. If you are an NBA big and you can't defend the rim and you can't space the floor with a three ball, you need to have some really off the charts type athleticism to make up for it. Watching Cooley play, he clearly knows what he should be doing and where to be, he just can't execute consistently on a physical level and will always be a guy a couple of steps or seconds behind. Ripping up the D League doesn't always translate into the NBA.
He's just not going to get that same kind of usage and those same kind of shots at the NBA level.
That being said, if he was at the Malice In the Palace, he would have killed all those mother fuckers. Jermaine O'Neal, Ron Artest and Stephen Jackson would all be dead. Cooley would have ripped their skulls and spines out, Mortal Kombat style. Hard not to root for this kid, he doesn't take one little bit of anyone's happy horse shit on the court.
Sadly, the old enforcer type, the Oakleys, the Kevin Willis types, even the Danny Fortson's are all gone now, the game has phased them out.
What exactly do the Knicks have to lose by giving Jack Cooley a 20 game trial run? I still think he looks like David Lee 2 years later yet I think he might be able to guard better. You only find out by giving a chance. Who's our PF? Jason Smith and his 4 rebounds and 44% shooting? Jack Cooley will be a guy who finally makes it into a line up starts putting up 14-10 and other team's go huh?
Cooley was signed by the Jazz today.
Didn't really see anything special from that video, it was more towards energy.
