Knicks · What's the Deal With Our Assistant Coaches? (page 2)

We have 4 assistants already. Rambis, Rasheed Hazzard (formerly Lakers), Joshua Longstaff (formerly Thunder) and Brian Keefe (formerly Thunder). I think we are done hiring assistants.

^at first glance looks like Phil let Derek hire his OKC guys. However Rambis is his Top assistant and there to help instill the triangle and Phil's other philosophies. The other guys must have more specialized roles.

I think aside from Rambis, the rest are tape and player development guys- we need another tactician or two.

Yea guys like Cleamons & Cartwright. Did Walton really join Kerr?

I seem to remember reading he did a few weeks ago- yup, here's an article confirming it:

Maybe Walton is more comfortable out west. Besides having played for Phil Walton and Kerr have no other ties.

I'd like to see Cartwright here. Former Knick, played with Phil, and he was a more traditional big man who was successful without having overwhelming athletic ability. He would be a good resource for our bigger players.

I'm pretty sure the standard is 5, give or take. Coaching has become a science and you need bodies to help deal with the vast number of details involved in the game. This isn't a mom and pop league; it's a multi-billion dollar industry where results matter.

Knicks had 40 coaches on the bench last season...wtf were they doing?

The Spurs had 6 and just added a 7th (Becky Hammon). All they did is just win a championship.

Having a bunch if assistants means nothing if they aren't doing anything. The spots have 7 good coaches in the best system in the world under one of the best head coach in the world.

The Knicks last year were the worse confusing they just won 54 games the year before.

New regime and culture being built so hopefully if they feel they need more guys, we continue to bring in fantastic basketball minds to help this thing go.
