Knicks · All in all Minnesota does very well (page 1)

If I went back 3 years in time and said the Wolves would have

Muhammaad Wiggins Robinson Bennett and Lavine--of which 3 of the 4 were purported to be number 1 picks 1 a high lottery pick and Lavine could be the best out of all of them. Remember they also got Dieng who looks pretty good.

Right now Im not sure they want to give up on the season--they still have Rubio Perovic Martin Brewer this year--but if they falter out of the gate Id see if I could trade Perovic and maybe even Rubio.

PassTheBall @ 8/7/2014 5:54 PM
Flip will have to work really hard to get these guys to see the game and play together. Definitely super talented roster though.
Nalod @ 8/7/2014 6:07 PM
Until they outscore their opponent 60% of the time and win 16 playoff games in a season I will have my doubts.

Go back 5 years, and you can see how this team seemed to have little luck drafting players, despite some very high picks.

Maybe they did OK, but you still have no idea if Wiggins or Bennett are going to be worthy of their draft status, and the #1 they get from the Cavs won't be that good, and given Minny's history drafting over the past 5 years, who knows what kind of player they will get anyway.

They were trapped- and had to get something for Love, and this was the best they could get, but the real shame is that they were never able to put a team around Love, even with all the high picks they've had in recent years.

The 2009 draft was a killer for the T-Wolves- first of three poor drafts where they had a top 5 pick. Took Rubio and Flynn at 4/5.

Could have had Curry and DeRozan, or maybe Rubio and Curry if they wanted two PGs. Traded 18 (Lawson), perhaps the best PG they took that year. Got Ellington, who never stuck. Add to the the fact that Rubio could not immediately play, and has not progressed as a player in the way I thought he could, and this draft, is even worse for them.

2010- Took Wesley Johnson at 4 and Trevor Booker (traded), neither still on the team. Could have had Paul George, Cousins, Monroe, or Hayward.

2011- Derrick Williams at 2, and Motiejunas, later on. Williams is gone, and Montiejunas was traded for Chandler Parsons, who they then proceeded to sell back to Houston for cash (Was that a predetermined agreement?). Missed out on Klay Thompson, Leonard, Tristan Thompson, and others in the draft.

2012- No picks in a very good draft. They would have been in the lottery, once again.

2013- Took Burke- traded for Gorgui Dieng and Shabazz Muhammad

2014- LaVine... who seems like a player

Example of a team with some pretty poor picks at some very high draft spots. Came back to haunt them, and now they are rebuilding again.

They are trading Bennett to the Sixers for Young- no idea whether that's good or bad- makes good sense for the Sixers though, just not sure about it for the Twolves.

Why on earth do the wolves want thad young?

prob the same reason they drafted 5 PGs the year they had 3 first rounders.

They drafted 5 PG's, none named Steph Curry who was available every time they picked. Lol.

Kahn was the worst GM, ever.

Saunders and Wiggins should work well together. He knows how to coach a budding superstar. Saunders is also an exec, can show more patience with Wiggins. Cleveland has a win now mentality, LeBron is there, so Wiggins would be pressed to sink or swim in a hurry.

I remember Kahn basically going after each and every player that was linked to the Knicks in just about any rumor.

Yep- didn't he also sign Sessions (who we were interested in) in addition to drafting the 3 point guards? And the Luke Ridnour the following season (who we also wanted). Some strange daddy issues going on with the Kahn! Didn't it turn out he was a bit of a fraud anyways and had only had some minor, trivial role when he worked under Donnie with the Pacers? He was an asshole too- to this day he blames his scouts and other people rather than accepting any responsibility for his boneheaded moves.

This is an amusing read on Kahns attempts to defend his moves. Not only did he not extend Love 5 years, but he also personally decided to give him an opt out after 3 just to be nice!

Yeah, I wondered about that - going after "our" players. It was too weird. And the Donnie connection, something happened that isn't being let out. Just too many coincidences and I don't believe in those. Suffice to say, it was nice watching Kahn's greed blow up in his face.

Rubio-Lavine-Wiggins fast break would be fun to watch.
