If Melo is getting in top shape just for the triangle imagine if he was in top shape his entire career. This guy could have taken his game to whole new level awhile back ago. I always felt Melo has been underachieving his entire career. Yes I know you guys are gonna call out his numbers. But this is a different type of underachieving. It's the one where you leave you self short and not leaving everything you got on the table.
I can't fault Melo for finally doing what he should have been doing a long time ago. At least he realizes that he has to make a change.

I doubt Melo is doing this on his own motivation. This has to be a contractual agreement somewhere. But regardless of his motivation, if he drops weight, he will be less injury prone as he enters his 30's.

Phil said he wanted everyone to be in shape for the season, not just Melo. I don't believe it was in his contract, but I do believe that they urged him to slim down and Melo took on the challenge. I would expect a clause like that in Eddy Curry's contract, Melo not so much.

ISO is incorporating no one but self creating imbalance
TRI is incorporating Coach System-Team-Individual Player Talent creating equality
Transaltion
ISOSCOLESE = Out Of Shape
TRIANGLE = In Shape

Nice to see but as his trainer even said today in article there is no guarantee his weight loss will work. There are other things to do.
My take is Phil showed him, or challanged him that if he wants to lead the knicks he has to be quicker. The other two guys that were the center of the offense were and my take is phil MIGHT (my opinion) said if you want to continue as you were go on to chicago, but if you want to evolve and be the Man here, this is what you have to do...........Get quicker!!!
I doubt its contractural but some form of positive Zen jedi mind trick.
The self gradification of knowing your grew and did your best will balance the negative media should the team not do well this year. THis is about Melo wanting to take his place as one of the games better players.
The knicks went all out in getting Trianglsized and it seems Melo is motivated by what could be. He is stepping out of a comfort zone and taking on a new system with a new coach and a new boss. And you know the money is pretty darn good too!!!

After reading his plan is to be as athletic as when he was a rookie, I had a look at some of his rookie highlights:
While I don't think he can get back to that, I was surprised to see he looked like a completely different player- he's really slowed down and added a lot of power to his game the past few years- lost hops and explosiveness, but I think his modern game is better suited to longevity.

Melo's game basically got lazy in terms of using all of his skills. Now Phil is challenging him to be more of a participant in the total offense and looking for easy baskets and a more efficient style of play. Melo has tried to plow thru the D rather than "Be Like Water" and take what the defense gives him. If Melo can change the ratio of his plays to more catch and shoot off movement that will help a lot. He's very effective that way. When Melo goes quick he's so much more dynamic and i'm sure Phil really pointed that out to him. If Melo comes off of screens and cuts to receive the ball it doesn't allow the defense to gain an edge or help.

Maybe but I could easily see the conversation being something more simple and having the same effect. Like: We want you to play the 3 full time so do not worry about keeping weight on or adding weight during the season in case you are needed to play the 4. I'll bring in other players for that. I need you to tailor your game into a full time wing and get back to being a transition player. We want to run this year. Also, in the triangle the 2 guard usually trials the pg so we want you busting your but up floor to take advantage of the easy points available.

He's also taking half his contract as an advance to help him get into shape.
WOW! I had no idea that players could even do that. I don't know how this avoided my notice this long. That's a big deal for a player in terms of investment. You can get that money and put it to work sooner I guess.
I could care less what the reason for Melo getting his conditioning up to an elite level is. Long as he plays better and starts making the needed changes to his game and gets to that elite level in the league. I want to see this team winning again and if money motivates this guy so be it. Just get it done Phil. I wanna see the new "TriMelo"™ .

if melo were to one day come into camp in l33t shape, he would drop 35 points per game and win us 50 games in the triangle

The story was updated. He is receiving half of this years 22.5 mil early. Apparently he is getting advances prior to the start of other seasons.

Coon said Kobe was able to get 80% of his season salary in advance.

We know Kobe loves his money too
He's the one who's been mentoring Melo over the yrs

so if you make 22 mil a year and you get 11 mil in a lump sum and the other 11 mil over the course of a year are you still getting paid the same that year? Not sure how getting paid different amounts through out the year when your gross pay is the same means you are money hungry or how that is a character flaw. I would love to hear your interpretation. Herring got it wrong and corrected it.

We need to sever ties with Leon Rose clients in the future.
I bet potential free agents next year are licking their chops, if they're looking our direction
