Knicks · Who Would You Rather Have at PG: Jose Calderon or Deron Williams? (page 1)

smackeddog @ 9/5/2014 12:46 PM
Never ever Deron- he went from being one of my favorite PGs to being one of my least liked- his fire and intensity has been replaced by half-arsed malcontentment. It's a shame- I'd hate to have him on this team.

Do you think a change of scenery would help?

so a...

45% fg shooter, 36.6% 3pt shooter

or

45% fg shooter, 45.5% 3pt shooter

yea, definitely Jose

You know FG% already counts 3s? If they have the same FG% but Jose is much higher from 3 point range, it just means Deron is much higher from 2 point range

The good ole 2s vs 3s discussion

I like Jose. Who doesn't?

I'd have to read his health charts and send it to a doctor. A healthy Deron can get his Mojo back.
He has a big contract and since we hired O'keefe as assistant coach and Durants BFF I just as soon keep the salary cap open for him or other starphuch wishes than
have Deron.

Melo was far from my favorite player and its taken a few years for me to warm up to him. If Phish think Deron is their man thats good enough for me. Besides, he can move up to Westchester and be happy!

Thats why some people here dont like you Bonn. You use logic

"FANS" don't like logic and facts

Not about stats for me- attitude and team chemistry are important. I'm not sold on Calderon but at least he won't be a headache.

gunsnewing @ 9/5/2014 2:49 PM
It depends on how Dwill functions in the triangle once his ankles are right

Gotta assume they will be eventually. Even Grant Hills ankles improved

Less than Max guys are rarely headaches.

If Deron was making less he'd be insignificant.

EnySpree @ 9/5/2014 8:00 PM
Deon still put up good numbers regardless. He's got this cry baby rep now and he's injury prone. He's still better than Calderon. Deron still has the ability to take over games when healthy. Calderon is a very good roll guy. Good leader and steady. It depends what you need. But if we could trade out Deron for Calderon I would. He would provide the same things Calderon would except he would be more dangerous especially since he won't be asked to make things happen on his weak ankles every time down
WaltLongmire @ 9/5/2014 8:16 PM
Assuming both guys are healthy...

Seem to recall Williams looking back at his Utah days and commenting on the fact that his best years were played within a system offense.

Don't know how true this was- can't recall the exact offense Utah ran under Sloan, but Utah always had a reputation for having a disciplined offense, if I remember correctly.

Maybe Williams, assuming he is healthy, would have a renaissance playing within the confines and opportunities of the Triangle concept.

If you look at opportunity costs though, Williams' $$ prevents a team from picking up other players, and the difference between what he and Calderon can do in a system that doesn't highlight the skills of a classically great PG means that Calderon is the better value, especially given Williams' decline as a defender.

Even after his decline Williams is a better defender. The fact that Calderon gives up what he produces on the other end makes it difficult to keep him on the court for long stretches. Williams is a better two way player, even with the decline in shooting and the injuries.

Bad apple and bad ankles. He wanted to go back to Dallas but couldn't pass up the extra 25 mil he got from the nets.

I thought we don't fault guys for not leaving max money on the table? And state taxes and all that nonsense?

Considering he himself admitted to not like living in NYC very much id wager it's not enough of a scenery change. But if the Deron of a couple years ago were to ever resurface it would be a no brainer.

We don't but if they complain after they take max bank it opens them up for criticism in my opinion. The Nets made a lot of moves to convince DWill to stay. Joe Johnson, the Wallace/ Lillard trade etc. and they paid him the max. Seems like he should keep quiet, play the sixty games his ankles allow him to be on the court and recognize that if he doesn't regain his game/health his contract is one of the worst in the nba.
EnySpree @ 9/6/2014 12:23 AM

jose is good though so no complaints yet until we see him on the court
