The nightmare continues..We can’t get one guy to play with Melo…Just one…Calderon is our offseason get?..JR Smith is the second best player on the team for the third year..
In the NBA, talent on the floor wins games and we are coming up short again..Going to be a long season, again..
One can either dream a false starphuch dream, or wake up to the reality of time and rebuild via a process.
It might be a long season. Go back to sleep. Those awake know the deal. Its gonna take some time.
Teams with Melo have to play well enough to make helpful other players want to come

so next season is hugely important. melo has made this bed now he must lie in it.
Bonn1997 wrote:Teams with Melo have to play well enough to make helpful other players want to come
I think that goes for pretty much everyone.

Not everyone. For instance...the Bulls have little issue atracting quality players even with the health concerns of their best player.
Love doesnt have a desire to go to the Cavs before lebron went back...neither does Shawn Marion.
The only players that seem to be attracted to play with melo so far are former Nuggets whom he's already struggled with.

Agreed. The OP appeared surprised though
This isn't a bad collection of talent. They enough talent around Melo to win this division if they're prepared to play as a team. We've seen teams with one big star and a bunch of really good players win when they're well coached. The Mavs took the Spurs to 7 games and they don't have 3 superstars.
If Fish can get JR focused he can be a good #2 Behind Melo and we have other role players who could be coached up. It's more about how they function as a team. In this 1st season of the Phil n Fish Era we just need to set the foundation of good team ball.

Love your optimism but please don't tell me they have enough talent around him to win. "if JR ..."? How many times have I heard that.
This is a throw away season and if they win 45 games I will be shocked.
smh at "winning the division". some teams dont even hang those banners up because they're used to winning things that really matter.
Winning the division is a playoff loophole, it doesnt even gurantee homecourt in the first round.

I don't understand where we disagree.
Teams with Lebron have seen success so yes he is desirable to play with (on top of being the best player in the world). However, even he had trouble attracting some big names his first time with the Cavs.
The Bulls teams without Rose have shown that they can still compete at a high level.
Melo's teams haven't done much so his teams don't look that attractive.
The knicks keep shytting away their money with dumb trades. Melo can't get teammates because we don't ever have cap space to get them.
Tyson signed here though that was really dumb on our part.

At which players look at Melo...sure they respect his game, but they arent pounding on the door to play with him.
The point I made I thought were clear....the Bulls havent had their best player, but players coming in know they will get minutes to contribute in meaningful ways and they'll win games....thats attractive to some.
Players follow LeBron, not sure what players he couldnt attract...blame Gilbert for the deals he wouldn't pull like refusal to trade JJ Hickson.
It was really easy to get players to come play with Ewing. ROOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDOOOOOOOOO!

We're still agreeing, especially the point about the Bulls.
As for Lebron, he tried to recruit Bosh (and someone else I'm forgetting) to the Cavs but they didn't want to play in Cleveland. Not an indictment of Lebron as a player but it does show that sometimes the situation can be unattractive enough to deter some.

There hasn't been a year since he has been in NY that the Knicks had more to offer then the mini mid level. There maybe some mini mid level guys that chose other situations but I don't think that is a long list.

Cap space isnt the only way to attract players. if they want to be here they'll make a a way. Even melo wasnt acquired via cap space.
I don't understand the point tho. We know this wasn't going to be the season we added a big time FA so the only thing to do was lay a foundation of a new culture and system. I also don't understand the idea of poo pooing winning the division. You have to take things in stages. Playing well enough to win the Atlantic would be a great step one! How is that an insignificant thing if analysts are predicting another sub 40 win season???

That usually involves trades, salaries and picks no? The Knicks don't have many guys on good or moveable deals and the Walsh and Thomas administrations traded away a ton of picks.

Of course, but we've seen plenty of deals get done with minimal assets. the Knicks still wont have many assets even next year...only cap space.
