Jason is a perfect example of a Phil Jackson type of player. Some in the media and some fans here have made snide comments about Phil as a Prez/GM but his moves have made sense from a BB Perspective. He gave Fish players he could work with. Guys that have the kind of game he wants the team to exemplify. Jason is a good example of the no frills team player that can do all the basics.

The new TV deal makes the third year of Phil's residency a continuation of next year's free agency.
Before, most thought it was all staked on next year's splurge on a FA like Marc Gasol or whomever.
But now we can do that next year and again in 2016.
This is why everything this franchise does now to develop cheap players will pave the way for a big time squad in only 24 months.
Phil probably already knew about the impending TV deal, but he also knows the value of a real system and how you can eventually groom and plug in players of different pay scales.
In those systems, sometimes it is the last guy or two you groom for peanuts who puts you over the top and competing for a title. It is not always the big FA who tips the balance in your favor.
Phil is playing both angles over the next 2-3 years. He learned from San Antonio.
To tighten up the team I would just announce that Jason Smith has won the starting PF position. To me --even in two games--he has shown he is the best option for the team at PF unless moving Melo is put there.
Now in the next 3 games we really need to get down to set rotations but its got to happen. Now to me Shumpert has also garnered serious considerations to start from his play.

I agree that Smith should be the favorite to start at the 4. Dalembert has played really well. I don't see any reason to push him out. Smith just adds offense that the starting lineup needs.

Yeah enough experimentation. I think anyone can see what is what. Acy has been afforded a great deal of minutes and he has not boarded well enough hes not a high output scorer and with a scoring deficient team its time to let the real ballers play.

Different circumstances and they wouldn't even bother with him, but they are. As I said earlier, if Larkin keeps showing small steady improvements, he may continue to be kept in the mix. If he stagnates or regresses, yes, he's out in a heartbeat and they are shopping for a third or second string PG in a mid-season trade.
Acy is an outlier. He's the guy who is pretty much pegged as an energy player who is not expected to amount to much. Yet, he keeps getting minutes. He has already crossed the barrier of marginal and is now contending for real minutes. That you think he will not be in the rotation is not based on observation IMO. Everything indicates he has cracked the rotation and it is just a matter of how much play he will get. On what basis can you say the circumstances now indicate otherwise?
I'm going by what I see the franchise doing. That is what I see in play. It can change. Mostly based on those two players' performance.

Larkin was better tonight. Not great, but improved. This the factor I'm going by. If he steadies himself and keeps working on his game and shows cognizance of his faults and corrects them, he'll be in the mix.
He has many faults still, but that is room for improvement.
Let's not forget he was a real star in college and his NBA obituary has not been written yet. He may be a guy who needs to calm down and Fish is a good guy to have on your side, so I'm not ready to shovel dirt on him just yet.
If he clicks, he's our Mugsy Bogues (well, that's maybe too high a ceiling), but you get the picture, our waterbug on steroids to keep the 2nd unit freaky and combustible.
I have no prediction on the outcome of the Larkin experiment, but I fully endorse it to see what happens.

I think to start the season trying to win??? Prigs gives us more of a known product. id rather have Larkin as the third guy right now after watching him. He needs to study the game from a chair a bit--maybe if we can do it balance a few games in the D league playing 48 minutes when hes down there.

ACY is out? Then why did he start AND PLAYED WELL AND THE TEAM PLAYED WELL the last 2 nights?
Larkin is the #2 PG. FOR NOW unless he shows otherwise. Larkin shows progress he will get the job
If not the Knicks know what they have in Prigioni. He can easily assume the #2 a spot once the season officially starts
I'm in agreement with Jason smith starting. I didn't realize he was that good. He has a nice jumpshot and a very nice fade away of the pivot from deep. He makes solid picks and he cuts well and positions well.
Quincy Acy needs to play. He's earned that right. Even if we go 10 deep. We need him to bring his lunch pail for 15/20 mins if possible.
Bargnani wasn't bad in game one either so we will have a hard rotation at the 4 spot. Dalembert is a solid lock at center. He's been great on both sides and has been passing, setting screens and rolling well.
Everyone can shoot.
Shump is back on my good graces. He played a really good game against the Sixers. I think he and thjr split that time at shooting guard.
The guy out at the 4 spot right now quite honestly if you take the preseason games is Amare.
Start Smith with Bargs and Acy as Backups... then Smith and Bargs can get minutes at the 5 as well...

Smith is a good player. The only question was health. The rest of his game is good. If he can stay on the floor he's a great blue collar rotation player. Like it was mentioned no flash, just effort and results.
If Fischer doesnt start Smith at PF and he gives Acxy 30 minutes--we deserve to lose and he will be questionable as a coach right away in my book. Acy hs had a ice little sample--hes had more minutes than anyone else. He has not stood out--he plays hard and pretty well--bt he is no "Ken Farid' or even a poor mans Faried. Josef Nurkic a rookie had more rebounds in 19 minutes his first game than Acy has had in 4 games and well over 100 minutes of play.
Smith has shown he can rebound and score and imho he will do that at close to 50%. IF his body can go 32-33 minutes--than he should go. Bargs is a chemistry killer Smith will blend in and be effective--Bargs needs a new role off the bench. I dont know where Acy goes but I dont think u go from a reserve role on a 24 win team to a starting spot on a good team
The knicks are not playing 12-13 guys. It just won't work and will be a detriment to team chemistry

How is Bargs ahead of Amare? he played one game, amare is playing within the system.
Would love the logic...are we basing on last year? Even then it's Amare.
