C Dalembart
F Wear
F Carmelo
G Smith
G Calderon
This makes Wear the intangibles player. He's a better skill player than Acy and I think we need that. Someone has to hit that open shot. Wear is also a better passer ballhandler and can rebound just as well.
2nd unit all vets
C Amare
F Smith
F Shumpert
G Hardaway
G Prigs
This balances the roster--the chemistry with JR and Hardaway is not balanced in the 2nd unit. Shumpert's play dating back almost two years does not warrant starting and JR gives us that second gun in the 1st unit.
Larkin Early Acy out.
Will re-visit Bargs when he wants to play.
I don't think we have a terrible team--we just havent found the right court "zen".
Has Wear even made the team? And why exactly would JR start when he has no clue how to run the triangle?
No Amare now? Come onnnn mannnn!!
Dalembert and Cole need to be the centers.... there's no getting around that. Amare can't control the middle with Acy or anyone else next to him.
Even though I liked what I saw from Amare against the bucks I still don't feel comfortable with him starting. Jason smith didn't look as good as he did the last 2 games. What's up with Bargs? I really can't call it.
Wear needs to make the team though. No d league. He needs to be on the roster and he needs to keep working hard and wait his turn. He's in the cusp of being a rotation player right now.
Almost got it right Briggs
Slide Hardaway to 2 guard instead of Smith
Smith has proven he can come off the bench
No need to mess with what he does
I do not want Smith and Melo
Playing heavy minutes together
Too much a risk of the offense
Not being ran with both in
Yes Wear and Hardaway should start
For simple fact offense will have to be
Our strength and they give the team
The best chance to run the system the way
It's designed to be run
Then when we sub call the
Dogs, Old Dogs, and Helter Skelter Skitzos
Hope for the best when they come in
Amare needs to start. He helps Melo with scoring. Wear seriously?!?!?!?!
Agree Chewy - Amare needs to start. It's about using the players to their strengths - Amare's defensive struggles are minimized with him at C. He can block shots (weak side) and is athletic. Keeping him in the middle reduces his area to cover for the most part. He also offers low post scoring which helps Melo and the shooters. Yes, it is key that he improves defensively. I like Acy next to him at PF - we just need some time to give them chemistry. Calderon was out most of the game which is significant. I'd go with the same starting 5 for a few. Dalembert or Cole would be excellent backups.

What about defense?
Amare, Melo & Calderon is about as bad a defensive lineup as you can get
Dalembert
ACY
Melo
Shumpert
Calderon

I like Amare but I dont see it happening. The reason why I put Wear in at PF was balance. If we say for example had Melo and Hardaway in the starting unit--you have two primary scorers and three role players who can also score a bit. That would leave two scorers--Amare and JR on the 2nd unit.

You leave two primary scorers off the team. Shumpert is a 3-10 machine and Acy cant shoot.
I really like Wear and don't want to lose him to another team. But there is no way he's going to start
Right now im just trying to figure out whats better for his development. On the Knicks sitting at the end of the bench and never playing OR playing big minutes in Westchester to start the year
I obviously would be open to starting him someday. He really fits the system

I say:
C- Dalembert
PF- Amar'e
SF- Melo
SG- Shump
PG- Calderon
Nice mix of offence and defense
2nd Unit:
Smith
Acy
JR
Hardaway
Larkin (we're not going far this season, so it's about time we committed ourselves to developing a young player)

I think Westchester until the trade deadline, then bring him onto the team once we've done some deals.
i know we have like 6 threads on starters, but i'm gonna go again...
PG: Calderone
SG: Shump
SF: Melo
PF: Amare
C: Dalembert
First big off the bench: Jason Smith
First small off the bench: THJr
One key was the mention of THJr backing up the 3, so that gives room for JR Smith to join the party.
Also Acy is another 3/4 plug, so depends on the direction he takes.
So i have a 9 man playoff rotation with no back up PG, which makes me think that would be Shump or THjr.
