Knicks · when did Acy become Ben Wallace? Or Jerome JYD Williams for that matter? (page 1)

fishmike @ 10/21/2014 12:26 PM
Did I miss something? Is there a real reason people want a guy who cant really score and has never played more than spot minutes in a rotation starting? Are folks aware he's smaller than Melo? But expected to start because of defense? Who is he locking down again?

In trying to figure what guys love about him all I could come up with is this...

He hustles.
He's not Amare.
He's not Bargs.

Not looking for a hate thread... just honestly curious to see how or why people think he can play starter or rotation (24+ minutes) on a winning team. I dont see it. Enlighten me. Or is it just good chemistry so lets see what we have?

Caseloads @ 10/21/2014 12:34 PM
We basically have no one better. Amare is a statue with absolutely zero defense, and clutters Carmelo offensively.

Bargs is a minus unless played at Center, where he did well for 5 games or so last year.

All you gotta do is watch the games

I see him playing hard and at times effective, and other times exposed.. Against the NCAA talent mostly.... which is why I started the thread.

Better question? When will this dude start to rebound. I think Anthony is pulling in boards than him. If he ain't boarding like Rodman, than good better be defending like Bruce Bowen. I can't see Act starting unless he shows more.
gunsnewing @ 10/21/2014 12:57 PM
Was rebounding and defense an issue when we were wining with Dalembert starting over Amare and Acy at the 4?

and Melo looked comfortable unlike last night. He didn't have room to operate

I caught this days ago. Not hating what so ever. I just don't think a 6-5 PF with absolutely no background behind him--I mean bench player for the Kings--starts our first 4 games in pre season--and yes it does count. I think it's fcked us up a bit. I understand that there has been an injury to Bargs but I would rather have Melo there if that is the case. Quincy Acy is not a top 9 rotation player in the NBA YET. Lets take for instance Draymond Green---he spot starts BUT he can shoot it and he appears bigger than Acy.

Call me an antagonist--but here are the players we went OUT of our way for

Calderon--ok decent but no D 3 years of salary and 34++
Quincy Acy
Thansis A
Cleanthony E--not a bad prospect at 34 but you can see why he dropped. He cant handle the ball.
Dalembart--9th team??
Smith--injury problems?
Larkin--way to small with no length and his hops dont relate to the game like Nate

I mean we flipped our roster for crp players who look NOTHING like players from the Chicago Bulls.

But back to Acy--hes a 10th 11-12 th man thats it.

Worked well against NCAA talent and guys not making NBA rosters.
jrodmc @ 10/21/2014 1:01 PM
Posters with no discernible actual skills are normally very enamored of high energy guys that they can "discover".
It's the GM wannabe virus.

I really don't get Acy either, since there were threads talking about how we had an overpopulation problem at PF. I guess that was before Bargs got hurt again and people realized Stat is actually short for StatueOnDefense again.

all fair. Im not sure how far out of the way we went though... Tyson was expiring and not resigning here. Felton has a gun charge and Acy came for Ellington. The one guy I disagree with you on is Larkin. He looks pretty bad right now but he's really really strong. Yes.. too short and that might spell career backup as it has for Nate, but that speed can impact the game if he can find his groove.

Ronnie Brewer 5.0?

gunsnewing @ 10/21/2014 1:30 PM
Brewer was a SG who couldn't shoot or do anything else. He was brought here for defense and he got injured, showed up heavy and slow. He couldn't even excel at playing defense. Its not like he was able to help set picks, get blocks and rebound etc

Acy will

and he will hit the ocassional jumper to help spread the floor

gunsnewing wrote:Was rebounding and defense an issue when we were wining with Dalembert starting over Amare and Acy at the 4?

That's odd because/////

Jordan played with Horace Grant, Longley, Pippen, Kucok, Rodman, Perdue

Mixture on the floor together, big rangy bodies

Kobe played with Gasol, Bynum, Odom

At times all on the floor together

Most certainly at least 2, add in Artest, Radmonovich, Powell

Are we still as a franchise with the

Additions of Phil and Fisher

Tap dancin around Melo's ability to be effective

Isn't this what the triangle is for

Spacing, ball movement, cutting

I don't want Acy starting so Melo can flourish

I want Acy starting if he helps the triangle flourish

And adds other intangibles needed to make this team successful

After that vicious dunk last night, he was as useless as they come for the rest of the game.

It's basically comes down to winning, when your winning, flaws get over look.

These boards will have a lot of back and forth this season, a lot of posters flip flopping because we will win some games we should have lost, and lose games we should have won like last night, where the buck had there 2nd unit in for most of the game

Honestly speaking what is the difference between Bucks first unit and second unit?

Not even. At least Ronnie fooled us with a few weeks of hot shooting. I haven't even scene that from Act.

Acy has the Nasty Beard so he wins

Almost nothing, I mean I thought there best player was OJ, and he's coming off the bench, so go figure.

But outside of melo and Amare, thats the same way I feel about the knicks, There's no big difference between our bench and our starters

Motor, don't forget the motor. It's always cool to have endless motor.

And like knicks1248 points out, Acy's shot chart is just... insane efficient. 1 for 1 on vicious dunk attempts.

GustavBahler @ 10/22/2014 12:37 PM
Only have seen one preseason game but I saw a player with a high motor and a God awful jumper. Fisher was quoted as saying that he is encouraging Acy to take the open shot, I hope he is also encouraging him to work on his stroke in his spare time.
babyKnicks @ 10/22/2014 1:02 PM
he's no starter, but he's solid, and as we are seeing in other threads, phil agrees...

Quincy Acy, SF

"I'm really enthusiastic about what Quincy Acy brings to the team. Denver was overloaded at his spot, so he didn't get much playing time last season. If Quincy is not always a stopper, we can count on him to always be tough, quick-footed and energetic on defense at both the 3 and 4 positions. Quincy also has the kind of tensile strength that surprises opponents. He's worked hard to become a threat from beyond the 3-point line, but he has a slow release because he has to have all his body parts perfectly lined up to make his shots. An outstanding offensive rebounder, Quincy has to learn how to make plays."
