Knicks · Who's your starting 5? (page 1)

EnySpree @ 10/24/2014 12:23 AM
We might see who the real starters will be at the next game....

who would you go with?

My guys are:

Jason Smith
Melo
Dalembert
Calderon
THJr

I think this is our best bet health wise and on both offense and defense. Melo, Sam and Jose are prototypical...so no need to explain. I need Jason's jumpshot, passing and active body on both ends. THJr brings a certain intensity that you need to start every game. He has a starters mentality and he is fearless. We need that kind of focus to start games.

gunsnewing @ 10/24/2014 12:27 AM
dalembert
acy
melo
shump
calderon
nixluva @ 10/24/2014 3:03 AM
I think it's clear Fish was hoping it would be Daly, Bargs, Melo, Shump and Jose. He's had to delay that, but I think that was his 1st inclination. Now I think he could go with Daly, Jason, Melo, Shump and Jose. Good mix of D and O.
Syniko @ 10/24/2014 4:27 AM
Fish is going to start Shane Larkin just to piss FireWoodson off some more.
babyKnicks @ 10/24/2014 4:45 AM
dalembert
Amare
melo
shump
calderon

Book it

fishmike @ 10/24/2014 8:52 AM
my starting 5? Or Fishers?

I think Fisher will go:
C Sam
PF Amare
SF Melo
SG Shump
PG Calderon
bench: THjr, Larkin, JR, Acy

What I would do:
C Sam
PF Melo
SF Shump
SG JR
PG Calderon
bench: Amare, Larkin, THjr

SupremeCommander @ 10/24/2014 9:49 AM
I think Shump/Acy will be a good combo for the KNicks... unsure when it makes sense to use them though

I kinda like:

Calderon
Shump
Melo
Acy
Amare

gunsnewing @ 10/24/2014 9:53 AM
I think you start ACY with Dalembert and you can always insert offense. It will be easier to do it successfully after guys get more reps with the triangle under their belts. The biggest thing early is defensive fundamentals and team chemistry/synergy. First you lay the foundation then you add the furniture
Vmart @ 10/24/2014 10:14 AM
Melo
Jason Smith
Amare
Hardaway
Calderon
chewy @ 10/24/2014 1:11 PM
Caldron
Shump
Melo
Stat
Dal

Reasoning, Stat needs to work with a pass first good pg and def center.

Ill be interested to see if Acy gets any minutes at all.

gotta remember were not running a traditional set....the passes aren't coming from the point guard exclusively...how the defense reacts is what makes it go. The pass to finish won't be in the point guards hands all the time.

I think it' safe to say that none of us are in agreement on this subject....Fisher truly has his work cut out for him
gunsnewing @ 10/24/2014 2:49 PM

I'm ok with this. Just hope he is not in and out of the lineup because of injury

I don't have a problem with this

But what does Fish do with Dennis Rodman

Looks like Fisher is angling for Triangle balance

I totally understand, even if it presents some challenges

With lineups and rotations

I guess this means when Bargnani is healthy

He takes over at the 4, because there's no way he can play center

nixluva @ 10/24/2014 3:31 PM
I figured Jason would be the guy cuz he actually is the closest thing to Bargs in terms of making teams pay for trying to double Melo. His midrange jumper is solid and he's got size. He can't put the ball on the floor like Bargs but that isn't the end of the world in this offense. It gives the SL a good mix of D and O. If Bargs was healthy I believe he would've started, but Jason is the next best thing IMO. He won't crowd Melo. STAT is perfect off the bench in this scenario.

In the scenario of Phil scouting this team

He said he hopes Amar'e plays (4) 8min rotations/gm

Where will Stat play those minutes if healthy

Somebody isn't going to play much this year

Or Fisher will be juggling lineups-rotations game-to-game

Phil isn't coaching....but it's stil possible for Amare to flirt with 30-32 minutes in a bench role.

Fisher has a tough job but he's relying on his coaching staff to help him figure that out.

Fisher has spoken very highly of Acy so it's interesting how this plays out

Fisher has 96min total at the 4-5 positions

Which almost means Melo can never play at the 4

Dalembert-Smith-Amar'e-Acy-Bargs

96 divided by 5 is 19.5min/gm

Let's say Amar'e gets his 30min

66min divded by 4 comes to 16.5min/gm

In order for Bargnani to come through as a surprise, Phil's words

He's gonna have to log respectable minutes

Let's give him a reasonable number of 24min

66min-24min comes to 42min//// divided by 3 comes to 14min/gm

So Dalembert-Acy-Smith are only going to log 14min/gm

Sorry the math doesn't add up, you can't argue numbers

gunsnewing @ 10/24/2014 4:24 PM
I live Melo surrounded by Calderon and jason. And whatever Dalembert gives them offensively is gravy. I like Shumpert as a slasher filling in the gals and as a 3pt threat. I understand going with height over Acy. Let's role
jrodmc @ 10/24/2014 4:36 PM
Dalembert
Melo
Jose
Stat
Shump

Phil loves that contradiction every second that's just waiting to happen. He will turn clumsy on it's head even if it blows Amare's knees out.

2nd Unit speed/yoot:

Cole
Jason
JR
THJr
Larkin
