Inconsistent lineup, is causing a lack of stability amongst the players. And, Fish needs to coach our boys to crash the boards after each shot, and push the tempo to not allow the opposing defense to settle and disrupt the triangle.

Biggest problem? Expectations. Any expectations at all. Coach needs practice, all of the players need practice, the players that are going to stay (hello, Melo!) need practice. Expectations that, oh, they might make the playoffs or that they might be competitive, or whatever, at this point, are counterproductive. IIRC, amazingly enough, the Knicks have a pick next year . . . so there's also that.

This is the real problem. This is why the offensive stinks. Although realistically, if they had a stretch 4 this could mask some of the backcourt's deficiencies. Biggest problem is really the lack of anybody that can knock down a perimeter jumper with any regularity. They could use one guy in the backcourt that could make an open 3 to improve spacing. While Shump has played better, he still remains almost unguarded outside of 18ft. Melo is the only guy who can make an open 3 with any regularity on the roster, which really serves no purpose since he'll get like 1 open look a game from 3. Watch any team in the league other than maybe Detroit and it is fairly obvious this is the biggest problem. Teams really pack it in against the Knicks.

Great point as well. Would put this as the 2nd problem. Most the players aren't very good so seems to me he's trying to catch lightning in a bottle with all these lineups.

Call him out for what he is and demand he man up and change
How he plays once and for all otherwise they need to discuss his future here
We don't have any PLAYER LEADERSHIP
I agree that Melo is not a "vocal" leader, which I do believe is what keeps him from being a superstar player. He is way too passive on the court, Phil and Fisher need to start calling him out for that. There are times when he is sleepwalking on the court, which should not be tolerated.
When your best player is not willing to do the small stuff, it is hard for others to follow. He needs to be a lot more demanding on the court, and he also needs to spearhead our defense; specifically in second half of games. Giving that he commands max money, if the Knicks are going to be successful, he has to put in the time and effort. Get in the gym earlier than most and work later. Accountability needs to start with him. When the young guys observe his efforts, they will take notes.
I love when so many posters think they have the solutions as if it were that easy.

We didn't hire him because of his leadership qualities, his job is to score, rebound and pass at and elite level.
The knicks need to hire a leader (and trust me, there's not that many in the NBA). You're only going to get leadership from veterans.
Right Now our leadership should come from Fisher, and until he figures it out consistently, the team will lack confidence when the pressure is on.

Everyone knows the Knicks true leader is Amare. More Amare less Melo. Amare is finally healthy and ready to produce at a high level. I have said this before that this team goes as Amare goes. Melo's impact is marginal at best. Need to put the best scoring option on the floor more and get him more shots.

I could not disagree more if you're being serious. How can a player as selfish and clueless as amare possibly be a leader at this stage of his career?
How can he be a leader when Amare doesn't understand half the game, by his own admission no less?! That's crazy.

Guess the team is going to the disabled list then? I don't understand why people love Amare so much. All people talk about on here is max money deals yet for unknown reasons the Amare deal is neglected and people actually seem ok with it. While is offensive production has been solid, minus the 1 or 2 dribbles off his foot each game, he has been a hot mess at the defensive end. I think they should give him more minutes, but he has to pick it up on defense for them to do that.

Amare is the embodiment of hard work. While everyone sites his defense I beg to differ with those that call out his defense. This entire team is a defensive mess. Get Amare in there and he will get this team 22-10 on 55% shooting. That's valuable high efficiency play that cannot be wasted. You can hate on Amare but you can not deny that teams will have to game plan for him.
