That young dude has done a decent job running the PG position. His numbers will not impress you, but his impact on defense is something to watch. He defends the opposing PGs from one end to the other, and does a hell of a job surveilling the passing lanes. If you ask me, I believe he is our best help defender on the roster.
technomaster @ 11/17/2014 11:52 AM
He's a pest at his best on D, but he's also small and a bit T-rex armed - 5'11" w/ a 5'11" wingspan. He plays his height. And you can't teach height. Because of that, he'll always be a little bit of a liability. Won't make scouts drool. But yeah, he probably is a solid help defender with his quickness.

To be fair, he's only a little small than Ty Lawson (similar height, 6'1" wingspan, + 30lbs of weight) and Lawson has seen some tremendous success in the NBA.

The PG game is not height, its brain.
He has good instincts but a lot to learn.
And we have a good system for this - no pressure on PG to create a lot.
He needs time and he is given the time.

Yes - he's been outstanding guarding the ball - especially against guys who want to get into the paint. He's also been solid helping off the ball and is super agressive/tough.

His ball-handling and passing have been sub-par and really need improvement. His shot is solid but he isn't confident in himself.

He's disappointed me in running the team -- he doesn't control it / run the show like I thought he would. I thought he was an ALPHA cat that would take control of the game based on how he lead MIAMI in college but haven't seen that yet in the pro's. Maybe he just needs more time / confidence to let that personality come out.

were 3-8, and we take the fewest FT's in the history of the NBA, as far as I'm concern, he's been lukewarm. I need more penetration from him and every Guard we have. Mid range shots mean nothing in todays NBA.

Larkin does need a lot more work on how to attack defenders using his speed near the basket. I think he is very cognizant of his lack of size and arm length and hasn't yet figured out how to get off effectively in traffic or draw fouls. He is however helping defensively. Lawson who is a blur wasn't able to just get inside at will. IMO Larkin has been getting better at adjusting to the faster PG's in the NBA. He's more confident in how he has to guard them. It's just going to take time for him to develop as a player. He really hasn't had a lot of games in the NBA yet. He's played in 59 games so far in his entire NBA career. It does take time for PG's to fully develop in the NBA and dude hasn't even played 82 games yet.
earthmansurfer @ 11/17/2014 3:01 PM
Luckily we are not going to let him develop much when Jose gets back. Seriously, does someone not think a team in need of a decent PG, won't offer him 100k (or more than we can)? Sorry, still a bit upset at not picking up his option, especially considering his: 1 pedigree, 2 speed, 3 defense, 4 age, 5 decent ability to run a team and not be a liability.
Knicks1969 @ 11/17/2014 3:06 PM
Larkins is trying to learn when to attack and when to slow it down. His height at the PG position is not and should not be an issue, specifically if he knows how to use his God given assets. The problem is when he is on the court with the starters, they are very reluctant to run. They are slow and always want to get in The half court instead of running

That's why Phil said he saw him as a change of pace PG who could fit well with a change of pace unit off the bench.

is that why phil picked up his option?

How you see a developing player's possible strengths is a different consideration from what you do with the financial flexibility you have going into an off season. I think Phil is more concerned with the TOP of the roster more so than the bottom or middle of the roster. You can always fill in a roster but it's much harder to find the top tier talent you need to win on a high level.

Sheesh but I've said it before and I'll say it again, Larkin isn't a starting PG right now and may never be but I can seem him having a nice career as a backup. He's a potentially useful player, assuming his contract is reasonable, and he seems to be developing quicker than some of his peers. I'd vote to keep him around.

The very LEAST any Knicks fan can do is spell the mans name correctly.

For those of you who don't Value Larkins, check out what Larson is doing to Cleveland tonight

Just kind of puts in perspective how Larkin played. He's actually had some good efforts against some of the toughest PG's so far. If he was more aggressive offensively he could make his defense even more effective by making his opponent work harder on D. He'll get it eventually cuz he's naturally a more dynamic player than he's shown so far. It's gonna take time for him to really have full confidence on this level.

I watched one of his interviews, He is a very smart kid. He is able to disect the game inside out. I believe the onus is on Fisher to coach this kid and get maximum output from him. He does a much better job attacking the rim when he is on the court with guys like THJ, Cleantony, Acy, and Wear. I don't know if it is familiarity, but he is a totally different player when the aforementioned are on the court with him. The starters like to coast around and settle on the half court, but the bench plays uptempo.

He's not really that good, in my opinion. I think we get lust for every young player for 2-3 years, under the label of potential. But he's really not that great.
