As if Kobe played team ball when he had contending squads
I don't blame his teammates for thinking he's a douchebag
Yeah, because it ended so disasterously when he did... Face it Kobe plays they way you always blast players for, but he won multiple championships.
having shaq and a pau gasol playing off the charts may have been a part of that no?
Kobe played like pure trash
The last chip he won
Shaq was an absolute behemoth his first 3
Kobe got chitted on by Paul Pierce in another
Got waxed in the first round back-to-back
By Steve Nash and the Suns I believe
Really Kobe has been hella overrated his whole career
The only thing I give him credit for is playing the
Spurs tough in the playoffs
And finally getting over the hump to beat the Suns

The Knicks already struggle with their current issues ( bad owner, Prez/GM with one foot out the door, poor fitting roster with limited talent) Adding in a player who is toxic in the media and in the locker room won't help.
Where is this coming from? I know you didn't like the hire but not sure why you are implying this.

his defense is all world. Can't take that away.
Also, he was the only finals mvp to shoot < 40% from the field. So its not just the fans who overrate him.

Kobe's defense nope once again overrated
He played All-NBA defense when he wanted to
Primarily during prime time games
Or when he was matched up against a major foe
Otherwise he did tons of window dressing

Phil Jackson turned 69 years old this past September.
What is the record of success for General Managers in pro sports who are above the age of 70?
And when you search for contemporaries, i.e. folks with as much success as Jackson has had, what's that list going to look like? Parcells? Lasorda?
I mean even the Big Tuna, who loves his big paychecks, decided to hang up his spurs.
Pretty sure that is why he isn't coaching. I just wanted to confirm that this was you speculating or elaborating on your opinion that he was a bad hire.
Dolan is defined by his love of nostalgia and star power. Phil fills both thirsts.
Phil very much fits the old Dolan logic of making splashy moves to satisfy the public (or what that seems to be in Dolan's mind). If Dolan were really interested in strategically overhauling management to compete with other modernized, statisically savvy, cap-savvy GMs, you'd try to put together your own money ball team and give them five years to prove their plan.
But the reason Dolan never did that is he trusts no one really. He's an incompetent basketball mind himself, but he's the boss and the only thing Dolan respects are personalities that can impress, awe or subjugate him. Dolan doesn't give a chit about expertise, lineage, background or competency. He is a starphucker. Always has been and always will be.
Phil satisfies Dolan's lust for showbiz moves and Dolan met his match psychologically in Jackson. In order to land the biggest hoops celebrity of the past 20 years outside of Jordan, Dolan had to make concessions and Phil knows how to play the psyche of a guy like Dolan. So Dolan landed his Big Kahuna, the kind he will step aside for psychologically.
None of this means Phil won't do good things. But it does mean Dolan's motivation for hiring Phil is pretty the same as it has always been. And Dolan probably does not want to deal with daily operations like Phil said, but Dolan's inability to assemble a management team and not meddle is well known.
All Dolan has ever shown is a thirst for the grand gesture. Open your pocketbook, unload your assets, whatever it takes to sign whomever you're coveting at the moment. Melo was the first real star he ever landed. The rest were expired former stars like Steve Francis or Larry Hughes.
Phil is just another grand gesture. This was the only way Dolan knows how to step aside. Whether he stays hand-off we don't know. But if he messes with Phil, I'd never be surprised if Jackson flips him off and walks. Stranger things have happened and Dolan is strange.

Lin does have the odd luck of playing with guys who don't like the sacrifice the ball enough. Doesn't really fit his game.
Sacrafice enough for what? For Lin to be a ball dominant PG? I'm just wondering what sort of team would be a fit to his game? SAS? Even Dallas has an offense that has two, maybe even three ball dominant players.
I think the problem with Lin is his 2 week wonder run here didn't equate to him being the permanent focal point of any team.

I have yet to see money ball teams win championships in NBA. Veteran teams, strong coaching, superstar players and great systems combine to have won the championships in this league. Money ball execs should be apart of every team to help be resourceful sure, and I am sure that Knicks have someone in there FO with that expertise.
New York is a different animal as well(Look at John Idzik from the Jets). For all the negative reasons why you feel Dolan brought Jacskon in. Jackson is a necessity for Dolan since he has the personality to keep Dolan at bay, the media, fans, and players in check. In NY if they hire a no name money ball guy and he doesn't see immediate results, he is going to get eaten alive, and Dolan won't have the faith in him to follow through with the plan.

Read our posts consecutively and you'll see I agree with you. You just reiterated the reasons Dolan hired Phil and why that is the only way we'll get any follow-through without meddling.
After all, I did say that good things can result from hiring Phil in spite of Dolan's mindset.
I think blowing up in New York
Somewhat ruined Lin's career as a basketball player
Financially it took him to new heights
He no doubt probably wishes he had a better set of circumstances

I think Lin could run well on a team with a few spot-up shooters and that is solid defensively. He finds guys that are open, but he needs to dominate the ball. But he can't be on a team with an established alpha scorer.
lol... what does a player need to accomplish to be no longer considered overrated? I sure do wish our chucker droped 5 titles on us. This place is equal parts lunacy and idiocy run amok at times.

Apparently it escapes you there are different levels
Of overratedness, such as in Tiers of caliber of players
And stop making fun of Melo calling him a chucker

The bottom line is a player who's been a core piece in winning 5 championships cannot possibly be over rated. What the hell else could he have done?! You may not like his game, but you can't diminish what he's achieved, as much as you'd like to.

Yes there is when the bottomline makes
Attempts to place in him the class of Jordan, Magic, or even Duncan
He never performed to their levels of greatness
He only has the stats to back him up
Eye test says otherwise
I'm not sure Prime Kobe cracks Top 10 realistically speaking
Kobe shot 10-18 against the Hawks. Why is this fucking guy so inefficient! Doesn't he know that he IS the sole reason they lose? God!
