Knicks · CLYDE FRAZIER (page 1)

Knicks1969 @ 11/19/2014 1:55 PM
What is his relation with the players on our current roster? I know he is employed by MSG, and he has a hell of a lot to teach; specifically, given that he played the game at a high level and is now analyzing it for a living. Why is it that his expertise is not being used by the organization to mentor guys like Carmelo, THJ, Larkins, Shump, etc?????

Particularly as it relates to leadership; he has made some salient comments during the broadcasts that should be relayed to the players.

newyorker4ever @ 11/19/2014 7:09 PM
To me all he does is critique everything the guys are doing wrong through the whole game and it's something that's really easy to do when you're watching the games from the sidelines and not actually on the court playing.
arkrud @ 11/19/2014 7:16 PM
Hi is the smart a..sss. He knows how to leave his live happily.
Coaching and mentoring NBA players and wok for organization like MSG in any kind of responsible capacity is something opposite to happy life.
He earn his place in live and he does not give a f..ck.
The most respected man for me from everybody associated with Knicks for last 40+ years.
knicks1248 @ 11/19/2014 8:47 PM
He said on a few occasions that most of the players don't ask, and he's never been approach by anyone in the organization to it.

This is probably why the Knicks have been bad for so long. It is vital for an Organization to embrace players who were part of its success. Maybe with Phil at the helm, all of that will soon change. THJ could benefit greatly from Clyde's tutelage.

Create a "consultant" position for CLYDE.

Clyde and Breen talked about how it is sad that no player in all these years asks Clyde for anything, yet Amar'e will pay $100,000 for lessons from Olajuwon.
Nalod @ 11/20/2014 12:20 PM

Lets preface one thing before I go on, Clyde is my childhood athlete hero.

But lets be real, players get a ton of coaching and support and just because its "clyde" don't mean he can really add anymore than what they get, or they would even impliment.
Its a nice publicity thing they do and when your as bad as we are now its easy for clyde to look smart and be critical. Half of the posts on the UK are conctructive.

"Make more shots"
"Play better defense"
"trade for XXXX"

Im sure Phil knows Clyde is available but then what???

Amare paid Olajuwan? Nice, what did he learn? Olajuwan sure as hell did not coach this dude to be as selfish as is. This dude did not pay to learn defense, that is for sure. He paid to Learn what?

So Clyde, you know, Hall Of Famer, one of the sport's 50 greatest players that ever played, can not add anything more than what Jim Cleamons, Rasheed Hazzard, and Kurt Rambis can give these players.
Got it.

Dude, it's not about the organization's use of Clyde. It's about today's players utter lack of the sport's history and their "I-know-it-all" attitude. You can hear it in Cyde's voice when he talks about this topic. He's genuinely saddened by the change in athletes. All the old time players looked for help from the older guys on the team and past players. They wanted schooling, mentoring. Today's guys just want a new shoe deal.

How can one not ask Clyde for any advice or tip? It is astounding.

Come on, you could see what he worked on with Hakeem. You're right, it wasn't defense. But watch Amare's current moves to the basket. They are text book Hakeem.

Look at Amar'e two years ago and his play today. Two years ago Amar'e was ready for the retirement home. Two years later and Amar'e is playing far better, far more aggressive, offense. That's what he paid for.

There is no Olajuwan finess in his ofensive game. He gets the ball and bullrush his way to the basket. Dude never look to pass and repost. That is not Olajuwan style my friend.

Nah, there's a step or two in there before that bullrush to the hoop. If you blink, you'll miss it, but it's there.

The only thing Amare has not taken from hakeem was the dream shake, other than that, most of his post moves are vintage Hakeem.

He may not be a smooth as hakeem was, but he definitely got the foot work down pat

+1

He knows better than to poke a stick into a beehive. He does his gig, has his digs in the city and a piece of paradise. He's cool and ain't no fool.

2 things

1) It started when Pat Riley took over and did not want ex-knicks around the team. Building an us against the world mentality.

2)players don't like when broadcasters and former player critique their games
See Keith Hernandez and the backlash he gets from Mets players.

Now with Phil in charge you are seeing a reembergance of the 70s knicks like Reed. You could see the excitement in clyde's face once we netted Phil.

However it doesn't mean Clyde will over step his boundaries unless asked to.

Quite honestly this team is such a clusterfck that I don't think anything Clyde has to offer will make a difference.

Maybe when we get closer to contending if ever then he can offer up a few suggestions

Great point.

And that was a mistake. For years the Islanders shut out their past players...that franchise quickly fell into the toilet. Oppossite end, for years the Yankees embrace their past players...that franchise has won more championships than any other sports team.

I just always wonder how any player on the Knicks with Clyde sitting right there in front of them night after night can not ask a question or two of him. Even Breen said it doesn't even have to be about basketball; could be about handling New York and the fans, media, circus, fame...anything. But no player has ever asked Clyde for anything. As I said, it goes back to the "I-know-everything" mentality in these new athletes.

Well maybe Clyde can help by suiting up and running the point

Nalod @ 11/20/2014 7:10 PM
Y'all reacting to a broadcast.

Of course Clyde can help, but on the other hand whose asking?

Stupid franchise makes stupid mistakes. It pains me to see Patrick Ewing a member of a different organization.
